Im curious to know if you or your connections do usability testing for the products you work on?
I have done it a lot, but it was at large companies though. So, what about small to mid size product companies?? Like companies that can't afford someone on staff to do this...
I am considering setting up a subscription service in which customers could have tests run for them on a recurring basis. I would focus on unmoderated (just the participant following directions on screen capture) testing, as that has the least overhead as far as time commitment for conducting and configuring the test.
It does require a fair amount of knowledge in how to structure, set up and evaluate these tests for best practices - which is where i think this idea would come in... think automated usability testing professional service.
Im trying to determine if there is a market for something like this - does it sound at all valuable, or would you just run a test on your own?
Appreciate your insights!
Kinda late here, but I'm actually running a service that is pretty much what you described (Crowdheavy)! Did you ever get going on your project?
@Fundercove I did not. I’de be interested to know how Crowdheavy is doing? It’s still on my backburner to work on at some point
Still early, but so far so good. Still trying to find the best channels to earn those first 100 customers.
Have you checked it out yet? Give it a spin! Your first test is free on the flexible plan.
I’m always looking for great, actionable feedback, too!

Depends on what the output is. I’d want the raw video and audio of the users interacting with the site. I’d want to know how many people gave up on each task, how long each task took, stress or frustration for each task, and maybe “problem area hotspots.”
My bigger question is who provides the testers? I’d want to make sure the people doing the tests are actual target users, otherwise I don’t really care about the data. Are you finding testers, or am I bringing them?
Thanks for your feedback and great question @andrewgassen.
User profile/demographics recruitment is really where the cost can vary widely depending on who your target users are. The service could include screeners and recruiting - the scale of price can go from $20/person to $400/person depending on how difficult the folks are to find, and what their monetary threshold is to participate.
For general usability - can people click around and find things, a general audience is usually OK... for basic stuff. But I totally hear you about target audience...really important.
I would actually be using a SaaS like usertesting.com, lookback.io, trymyui.com etc to recruit and conduct test - so the service would provide a level of automation/insight in addition to what you get with them.... its actually something they probably provide as professional services.
