"Users sign up but don't use my product" Here's how to fix that.

User Onboarding Portal

TLDR: Adding an onboarding process to your app will reduce the biggest churn factor at the most critical point: sign up.

The Problem

Too many indiehackers (including myself) face a churn issue at the start of their user experience process.

We focus a lot on the landing page to convert early users, but if they are not onboarding correctly, they won't sign up any way.

Now, you can find many statistics on how many users churn within the first week. Different sources say 40,50 or even 60% of new users! But the idea to take home is: a LOT of users will leave a tool in the first few days, if not immediately after signing up.

The solution

So how do I reduce this churn?

We have to start by understanding why users leave. Nobody has the time to learn a new tool.

You can tell them to read the docs, you can ask them to watch a video, OR you can guide them through a usage of your app.

When users sign up, they are primed and mentally focused on your product, this is the most critical time to get them engaged. You want it to be quick and easy for them to use your tool so that they get value from it before closing the tab.
