Using Story Telling To Attract Users/Customers

I'm reading Seth Godin's book "This Is Marketing" and "All Marketers Are Liars". Seth emphasizes that story telling is the best way to convince customers to sell products/services. However, in the world of SAAS, how effective is approach? If so, who does this the best? What stories are Microsoft, Apple, Google, Netflix, Facebook are telling their customers to convince them to buy their products/service/software because I don't really see it. I learn best from examples... thanks!

The best story you can tell a potential customer is the one in which they are the hero.

Yeah I definitely remember hearing using the "hero" analogy when telling stories to customers.
Though I was wondering how the mega corps do this. I know companies like social networks like Twitter, Facebook, etc. indirectly do this by gamifying their platform using the "Like" button/counter.

But I was wondering how mega corps' marketing teams tell these stories directly to customers in the form of pictures/videos. If they are telling me stories then, it's not obvious to me and are probably subliminal.

The best way is to tell the success story of your loyal customer, how the organization helped the customer to achieve their goals. Case studies are one way to market your brand without actually marketing!

I've read a lot of them to tell you that stories don't necessarily have to take the "once upon a time..." narrative form

Thanks for clearing this up! =)

Also thanks for the examples, esp the Apple one.
