Validate: Optimize food supply chain to reduce waste

Backstory:

My parents run a small shop where they are mainly selling fresh fruits and vegetables. One month ago I was helping them, going to the general market early in the morning to get the products to sell. Needless to say, my brain was trying to come out of this experience with some product ideas.

Issues:

I've noticed few issues in the process i.e. potential product ideas:

• Waste: perfectly edible food is wasted because it didn't look too fresh anymore
• Out of season fruits: couple of times I've seen and tasted very nice fruits that are out of season locally but tasted really great! But few were buying it because it is an hard sell. (What, grapes in March???)
• Highly profitable fruits with short shelf life: hard to even break even (sorry for the repetition) is the product is not sold quick enough, but in case of a win the margin can be high.

Idea:

Matching offer and demand is a thousand years old, know problem how come this is still going this bad? Especially when wasting food is becoming more and more a problem for the whole society? How can we try to fix it?

The idea is to create a marketplace where:

• The shop can add their listings, with group buy offers, maybe including out of season products
• People can be informed when some specific product is available and get discounts if they join a group or invite other to the group.
• the shop decides when it is time to "finalize" the sell, gets the product(s) and invites everyone to collect the product
• the platform gets a cut

I think this can have some benefits for every part involved:

• less uncertainty in the sales process for the shop
• less waste
• people get what they want at a discounted price
• the marketplace gets a lot of money and I finally retire (ROFL)
