Hi,
Does anyone have suggestions for how to validate interest and/or collect email addresses for an early-stage idea?
One of my first indie-projects was an Amazon Alexa Skill (their name for an app). It took about ~30-40hrs to build from start to finish. However, 90% of that was trying to wrangle weird errors and understand documentation. Right now, I'm making ~150-200/month in cash from misc skills. Plus I was able to adjust a few settings to qualify for $100/month in AWS credit.
I was thinking of building a course around this and providing my source code. Honestly, I think I could help most people get a paid skill up in running within 3-4 hours instead of the 30-40 hours. I can't really promise people will have the earning as much from monthly customers, but at the very least can help folks qualify for the AWS credit.
TLDR:
If I can find interest I'll post updates to my twitter: @conorleary_
To summarize the previous comments. Every type of social media might be a great channel. Whatever makes you feel most comfortable, start a FB group around this topic, maybe even a Tiktok series about this topic or just an email-list (that also solves the problem of getting emails).
This is a classic funnel building problem and I would recommend you build your funnel before you start working on the product.
Steps might be:
Create landing page with freebie to collect emails
See what works to get people on your landing page
The freebie can be something as simple as "10-most-know things to build your Alexa skill" which you deliver as a 2-3 page pdf when someone signs up for your email list.
All great ideas! Once you create your landing page (either website or social-based) what are some good ways to drive traffic to the page? I understand the signup-incentive portion, but curious on how you get enough eyes on the offer initially
why not start a Alexa facebook group
If you have a twitter following you could always post there. How do you earn the AWS Credit?
If you have an Alexa Skill that exceeds the free AWS tier usage, they'll provide $100-200 in monthly credit to expenses. So if you're skill costs $.50, you'll have a net $99.50 in credit.
Thanks! Gonna go check this out
Hi Conor,
I developed some skills with Alexa and when I started I faced the lack of informations. Meantime I discovered an easiest onboarding process than 1-2 years ago, but I still consider that a course would be much appreciated than the official documentation.
Currently I would probably not be interested to buy your course, but in my beginning, probably I would buy it for maximum 10$.
At that time I wrote few articles about Alexa Onboarding process: https://boobo94.xyz/ai/5-questions-build-custom-alexa-skill/

Feel free to use them if you consider that are useful.
Hope this comments helps you.
