Validating Your Idea: How Do You Evaluate the Results?

Hey IH!

Yesterday, I decided to post my indie project (DepsHub https://depshub.com) to multiple subreddits and HackerNews to validate the idea while I'm still working on the MVP version.

Some of the results that I've got so far:

  • 👀 83 page views
  • ✉️ 7 emails collected
  • ⬆️ 3 upvotes on HN
  • 🗣️ 2 comments on Reddit

None of the posts that I did were succesful in terms of upvotes or general community support. I know these are some very tiny numbers to make any decisions but the CTA conversion rate is 8,4% which looks promising.

How much data do you actually need to validate the idea? What is more important: success on the platforms (upvotes, comments etc) or the actual conversion rate of people that decided to open the website and left their email to try it out?

Thanks!
