Validation: Link to quickly calculate timezones?

I have an idea for a better way to plan time together in different timezones.

Recently I got an email:

  • He suggests a time
  • Calculates it for me to make it easy for me

Problems:

  • His calculation might be wrong (it actually was in this case)
  • I don't know his timezone, so I can't really verify it

This could be solved by using a calendar invite, but what if you don't want to create a calendar invite?

My idea

A url utility for having a universal source-of-truth link, that instantly gives you the right timezone calculations.

Alternative 1: He sends me the time (his timezone). I do the calculation (just click the link, OR manually search or whatever).

Alternative 2: He wants to be nice to me and sends me the time in MY timezone. He can quickly double check that it's right by clicking the link.

I don't even have to press the link to see the time, it's in the url.

If you click the link you see something like this. Super simple and quick

Why this could be smart:

  • The link itself gives the same information as writing it in text
  • ("When time is 15 GMT" vs "whentime.is/15-gmt")
  • Gives optional quick way to do conversion (when you click link).
  • Ability to parse any string after the /

Bonus: social preview gives information so you don't have to visit the link

Would you use this?
