Veed's step-by-step strategy to drive 2+ million monthly visits

Quick intro

Here is the to-the-point version of a marketing case study I wrote on how Veed drives 2+ million monthly visits.

I'm very inspired by Harry's Marketing Examples and wanted to take the time to research and write marketing case studies.

Veed Case study

Veed is an online video editing tool that launched in 2017.

Veed uses a unique strategy to drive traffic - Tools Programmatic SEO.

Tools Programmatic SEO combines two different SEO strategies into one:

  1. Complimentary tools: Build free tools that help target users.
  2. Programmatic SEO: Build hundreds of pages using structured data.

Veed merged these two strategies and created 600+ pages covering 70+ tools.

Veed receives more than 60% of 8 million monthly visits from organic search, which is heavily powered by Tools Programmatic SEO strategy.

We counted and found that Veed has 78 free tools listed on their website.

Veed's sitemap reveals that Veed created 632 pages using programmatic SEO for these tools.

These pages, combined, generate 2.3+ million visits from Google.

Veed’s step-by-step formula:

1/ Page title.

The tool page title includes the search term (e.g., video format conversion - MKV to MP4).

The title and subtitle are wrapped in H1 and H2 HTML tags so that search engines understand these are key terms on the page and improve the SEO ranking of this page for the given terms.

2/ Templatized body.

The templatized body includes section on audio/video conversion format and conversion instructions.

The step-by-step conversion instructions use standard conversion instructions (e.g., upload video, convert video, download video) and weave in the video format title (i.e., search keyword) to create a more personalized feel for the end user. There is nothing special about uploading an MKV file vs AVI file.

3/ Show, don't tell.

There is a common video explaining how the video format conversion tool works. Even though this is a generic video across all pages, the title on the video is customized to the audio/video format the user expects.

4/ FAQs.

The FAQ has audio/video format inserted in a templatized format. FAQ is often picked by Google to provide answers right on the search page via excerpts.

5/ CTA

Finally, CTA also highlights the conversion tool search term.
