I recently replaced the lock setup on my front door and ended up going with a vintage-style rim lock from Infinity Decor.
Didn’t expect hardware to make such a noticeable difference, but the entire entrance feels more solid now. The brass finish has actual weight to it, the deadbolt action is smooth, and it doesn’t have that cheap mass-produced feel most modern locks seem to have.
What stood out to me:
solid construction instead of hollow lightweight parts
clean vintage styling without looking overly decorative
surprisingly easy installation
feels secure and adds character to the door
Most modern door hardware feels purely functional, almost invisible. This actually became part of the aesthetic of the house.
I’ve also noticed older-style rim locks tend to age better visually. Small scratches and patina make them look more authentic over time instead of worn out.
If anyone else is renovating an older property or just tired of generic hardware, it’s worth looking into traditional ironmongery and rim locks again. The difference in quality is immediately noticeable.
I love that you're blending security with character—most people overlook how much a door's hardware sets the tone for the whole house. How does the lock hold up in terms of weather resistance if your front door is exposed to rain or humidity? I've been eyeing vintage hardware but worry about corrosion.
