Want a 😎 domain name without spending 💰💰💰
I am purchasing a domain for a new product. Unfortunately, all primary domains (.com, .co, etc.) are already gone.
I'm not the type of person who likes to spend a lot of money on people who are making their living by buying domains and selling them for ridiculous prices. So I decided to be (wannabe) creative.
I am now looking to buy 2 domains instead of one:
projectname.website (for hosting my website)
&
projectname.email (for sending/receiving emails)
Someone told me I would score really bad on SEO with doing this (I don't know why), others that it is confusing for people to see 2 different addresses, etc.
Just overall, doesn't have a lot of good feedback on it. But I taught it was a funny thing to do, and I was just wondering what you girls/guys are thinking about it...

You generally won't have any issues with SEO, Google doesn't care about the extension. The issue is word of mouth sharing & people typing out and sharing your project - so in that case SEO would suffer because your project is more confusing to share for backlinks with domain extensions that may not be hyperlinked by default.
Stick with .com, .io, .co. If your project is really successful you can buy a premium domain later. If not, you don't have 2 domain names you have to let expire.

I've tried to get as short as possible.
. co AND . xyz
both have lots of available names.
but I recently bought a . click for a new project because I loved the project name so much, so can commiserate with you that sometimes the name just works.
One thing to be wary of is that if your product name is so close to others that they've taken sooo main TLDs then either use a prefix or go with a different name altogether. For my .click one I'm thinking of adding the Click to the name of the project.

I taught it was maybe better for the brand to use its real name.
eg facebook vs thefacebook.
I'm afraid that people will start using the name incorrectly otherwise.
But is it better for SEO to have a prefix, I will definitely see what is possible
