Waply finally touched $500 MRR. Users say they wont pay, but then some do

Wanted to share progress on Waply.co, AI Assistant in WhatsApp for Reminders & managing Calendar.
Our key value props:

  • 7 secs to set an reminder/event, flexible via text or voice note
  • No app to download or learn, all in WhatsApp.
  • Set reminders fast, set and send calendar invites, daily/recurring reminders

Some learnings:

  1. People may not pay, till they form a habit: several early users were likely not going to pay. This sent scary signals, as Im not looking to do charity here. But as they used it about >10-15 times over 2-3 weeks, the ~3$/mth seemed to become acceptable for the added convenience. This wasn't all users, and several pushed for greater functionality to pay.

  2. Too basic an MVP, can send the wrong signal: we followed the standard wisdom: build a basic version, get positive signals or pivot. We learned in our case that certain types of products need to be at a certain level of functionality/polish

  3. Churn will happen, is it low value or UX issues?: we faced a fair bit of churn, and honestly early on I thought maybe this new way of setting reminders was not for a lot of people. But as i started to interact with people who used it daily and people who churned, often if the product doesn't work as designed or gets stuck in loops, users have no patience.
