We blew up on ProductHunt and hit $9,000 MRR in under 2 weeks. Now what?

ContentFly – Unlimited content marketing for $250/mo

I launched ContentFly 2 weeks ago, we made it to the top of BetaList and PH, and everything went bananas... we've now got 35 paying customers, just over $9000 in monthly revenue, a decent change of which is pure profit.

My question is, now what the heck do we do? We've clearly validated our idea and used the initial "quick wins" channels - what's the next step now that this early traffic boom is presumably disappearing? Which channels would you guys recommend exploring for continuing to grow?

Reach out to your current customers. Ask what they used before, what they hope to get solved by using your service.

You said to have launched less than two weeks ago, but have "14-day Money Back Guarantee". So theoretically your revenue could be 0. Keep your first customers close to you. Provide outstanding service and results.

I would try to reach personally each one of them. They are not that many.

Take a deep breath; and just do the work (run the business) for at least two weeks. See what your churn rate turns out to be.

PH signups are great, but often result in a number of customers churning out after a short while. Focus on the customers; talk to as many as you can. Try to figure out how close you really are to product marketing fit.

If have reached product market fit, or are very close (resulting in low churn) then starting thinking about exploring new marketing channels (existing customers can be a great help there as well). If you can afford it, consider hiring a marketing person.

    Congrats on your success!

I don't know what the next step should be. But it would be cool to know how did you get where you are and what are you doing right now, so other folks can help you, and we all learn in the process.

I'm building a product so you can share your maker story so others can learn! I'd love to have you as one of my featured users :-) Let me know if you're willing.

    Great job on this!

Some next steps from a Marketer:

Maintain your client base the best you can. Give them the VIP treatment while your company can manage it and can now actually afford to (you want to figure out your churn rate and get to know your clients).

Now is your time to TEST & OPTIMIZE. Whether or not you retain every one of these clients now is absolutely your chance to have real qualitative and quantitive data go through your business/platform. Two things: download some sort of Interaction Analysis and data analytics software most of those are free to start (mouseflow, google analytics) you don't NEED to do anything with the information just yet but make sure you at least are collecting it for future use. And write down some questions you could ask your current clients to better understand who they are what their role is in their business and what their pain points are (referring to content) this will help you set the stage for scaling your future marketing efforts.

There's so much you can do but those avenues should always be prioritized by your goals/plans for the future.

Start by asking yourself some simple questions:
Is 9k MRR all you can handle?/Care to handle? Are you hoping to acquire more customers? Do you have money to reinvest into advertising to acquire them? Are there "Growthing Hacking" Techniques you and your team could implement until you can get there?

Hi naeem, congratiulations for the success.

I am just curious. Is there any limit to the articles you are writing? How can you be sure that it is profitable if there is no limit to the articles you write.

Try to get a 30 min conversation with @Vinrob and bring a notepad ;-)

    • The channels you need to explore are the ones your current paying users are at. Sounds like you're missing out on your potential by not being on top of your current clients. Ask them good questions and they'll tell you exactly where to go. If you don't know how, buy The Mom Test.
    • Keep growing your network of copywriters. Always keep enough extra on hand (that are trained and know your process/quality requirements).
    • Stabilize workflow. Especially as new hires come in, communication and workflow can become unstable (which affects delivery).
    • Use your traction for marketing. Share your success everywhere (your own blog, IH, reddit, Medium, ... but make sure to always link to your own article/website for SEO) and make sure to include key insights (getting to MVP, first stages, launches, growth) so the reader feels they've gotten enough value. (Structure it, revise & proofread. But I probably don't have to tell a copywriter that.)

I second what @francopetra said. Would be interesting to learn from your process.

I wouldn't focus on growing that much more right now. I would focus on making sure those 35 users have the best experience ever so A) they stay and B) they refer you to other clients.

Also - do you have enough writers to cover the influx? Would be interested in lending a hand if you need help. Kinda in line with that, how does your process work / how do you pay the writers?

Hey Naeem. Congrats on the launch. Looks like I'm late to the party. That's a great PH launch.

    Did you see any churn?

Would really love to hear your experience.

Wow I like this service, I'm definitely interested in seeing what you guys can do for me. Looking through your website, as a potential customer, I do want a little more info. Would be good to maybe see sample work or sample industry.

As for where to go now..Similar to what everyone else is saying -- Reaching out to your current customers to learn more about what they like/don't like, making sure you keep providing consistent value (critical), then seeing if you can get some word of mouth going.

As impt as it is to keep looking for new customers, you're seeing strong initial growth and have a very work heavy operation going. How scalable is your current process? I would see this as a critical question in this moment. If you were to 2x next month, do you have the writer on staff? How easily can you onboard? Do you have metrics on how much work your writers can handle vs your growth projections?

Fine tune your workflows. Isolate what work can be outsourced, make sure your team has a good process, and you can hire/supply work to fit your needs. Set up some metrics so you can always keep a high-level watch.

If you're looking for more help on the operations and workflow side of things, send me a PM. There's usually a good chuck of work being done by your internal team that can be broken out into smaller tasks and outsourced, saving your team time and allowing them to focus on what is most critical.

    Congratulations on your success.
The main goal for you should be focusing on your existing customers and providing them with a superb service. If you can maintain high quality over two months and avoid as many issues/reliability problems/quality errors, then you will start getting referrals (possibly more than churn). So my advice is - focus on existing customers, work your ass off, and once you will build your brand (in 2-3 months of delivering high quality content) think about growing your market by other means than word of mouth.
In a month or two you can also start a refferal system, where existing members benefit from referring you to their friends.
