We built a family location app with no subscriptions. Was that the right decision?

Hi everyone,

After months of development, we finally launched LynraFamily on Google Play.

While building it, we noticed that almost every family location app relies on monthly subscriptions. We decided to take a different approach:

  • No ads

  • No subscriptions

  • Pay once, use forever

LynraFamily includes:

  • Live location tracking

  • GPS, battery and safe zone alerts

  • Call Me button and home screen widget

  • Emergency SOS button and widget

  • Shake your phone to send an SOS

We know the app isn't perfect yet, and we're actively improving it.

We're currently offering Lifetime Premium to our first 100 users in exchange for honest feedback.

We'd really love to hear what you think about the product and, especially, whether choosing a one-time purchase instead of a subscription is the right strategy.

Thanks!

What stood out to me is that the pricing choice feels like part of the product philosophy rather than just a commercial decision.

The way a business chooses to earn revenue often shapes how people interpret the relationship they're entering into, long before they compare features.
