We built AI agents to fix something simple: follow-ups don’t happen

One pattern kept showing up across different businesses we spoke to:

Not a lack of tools.
Not a lack of talent.

But a lack of consistent execution.

Leads weren’t followed up on.
Candidates dropped off mid-process.
Invoices stayed unpaid longer than they should.

And almost always, the reason was the same —
manual workflows don’t scale.

The problem with “just follow up”

Every team knows follow-ups are important.

Sales teams know they should reach out multiple times.
Recruiters know timing matters.
Finance teams know delayed reminders mean delayed cash.

But in reality:

  • People forget

  • Priorities shift

  • Work piles up

So things slip.

Most software doesn’t really solve this.
It just adds dashboards, reminders, or more steps.

What if the work just… got done?

That question led us to start building Squirrels AI.

Instead of helping teams manage follow-ups, we wanted to remove the need to manage them at all.

So we focused on building AI agents that take action.

Not just generating text or suggesting replies — but actually:

  • Sending emails

  • Making calls

  • Following up over time

  • Handling responses

Across sales, recruiting, and collections.

Early insight: consistency beats intelligence

One thing we’ve learned so far:

It’s not about making AI “smarter.”
It’s about making execution consistent.

A simple follow-up done at the right time often beats a perfect message sent too late.

Where we’re still figuring things out

We’re early, and there are still open questions:

  • How much control do users want vs full automation?

  • Which use case creates the most immediate value?

  • Where does AI feel helpful vs intrusive?

Curious to hear from others building

If you’re building or running a product:

  • Where do follow-ups break in your workflow?

  • What do you wish could just run automatically?

Would love to learn from others here.

Always open to feedback 🙏

It is so frustrating when a solid lead or a great candidate goes cold simply because the team was too busy to send a three-sentence check-in email. Most people don't realize that the "follow-up gap" is usually where the most revenue is lost, not because the product failed, but because the human element of the process simply ran out of bandwidth.

Since you're focusing on agents that actually take action like making calls and sending texts, how do you handle the "hand-off" back to a human when the AI detects that the person on the other end is finally ready to close the deal?
