When you are a small new player in a fierce market without a big budget, you have to use alternative methods without ruining your reputation, to make yourself known.
One of our tactics is to be vigilant on our social media and strike when the opportunity presents itself.
Here is an example (out of a handful) which are an obvious opportunity to promote oneself without seeming too pushy. Let me explain:
This was followed by 38 sign ups.
But here comes the best part:
It is therefore important that you follow and interact with influencers from your niche. Opportunities like these come more often than one might think.
A small hack to find these golden opportunities, you can use the search tools on various platforms. In this case, we used the search tool on Twitter and searched for "new link building tools" and sorted by Latest. The same can be done on LinkedIn, Reddit, and yes, even IH.
In addition, you can also use Google Alerts to set up alarms that let you know when a new result with a particular search phrase comes on Google. When you are notified of the new result, go to your social media and look for the company/website that mentions the search phrase you are looking for and see if they have reposted it on their SoMe accounts, if so, you interact with them.
Do you have similar examples of tactics that can be used by us indie hackers and how have you managed to execute them?
If you could share a bit more detail how you find these threads over "be vigilant" it would be greatly appreciated. I'll be happy to feature you on my blog if you could provide more details.
My mistake, I was just a little too quick to hit "post" and forgot the whole point about how. I am writing here and updating the post with it as well.

Thank you for explaining. Would you be interested in a tool that will automatically email you when a phrase like that was mentioned on Twitter, HN or IH, or are you happy with your current process?
Both yes and no. Let me elaborate:
I would definitely love to have and also PAY for a tool that could do just that. Here comes the "but".
But it should be able to do with context. Understood as that instead of just entering a "stupid" search phrase, the tool must understand what it is I am looking for.
In the example with twitter above, it will not be for us to find a new link building tool, but to find someone who wants to find one or know more about new link building tools.
It's a bit the same as we do with Tabtimize, let me explain how.
There are many tools out there where you can enter a "stupid" keyword and view X number of results with that keyword either in the title, headings, or directly in the content, but the context is missing, which is why I as a user still have to spend hours sorting irrelevant results from the relevant ones.
With Tabtimize however, you as a user will be shown the pages that have a contextual relevance to your page. Ie. that it is not only pages with matching keywords you will see but pages that somehow have relevance to yours.
An example could be a blog post about football (soccer), where the blog post briefly describes that the durability of a football boot is affected by the surface that is played on. What Tabtimize does is to match this post with pages that are about football in general, football boots, ground types/grass types, and other content-related topic concepts that the site is about.
In the same way, I want a tool that not only finds posts on SoMe based on word match but based on the context I want to find posts on.
If you have such a tool lying around, feel free to send it my way, but if it's a phrase match tool, then I might as well use the manual method that I use anyway.
If you are interested in building a tool that uses contextual relevance, hit me up, we already have the technology for that.
Anyway, if you'd like to save yourself the trouble of typing in those search queries manually every day I'd love for you to try out syften.com.
If you can get some signups using my tool I'll be happy to write a blog post about your method.
I'm happy to onboard you personally, we can figure out some good search queries.
Thanks, I will give it a try. Will probably reach out if I need help with onboarding.
I think twitter already does all that. Just search for something like this:
new link building tools ? -filter:links
The results seem exactly what you're looking for, though there are not that many. What more could a tool like that do?
Any chance for a beta invite?
Sure thing Ian.

Yup on the list - just looking for slightly earlier access ;)
Alright. I just put you on among the first 👍

Hey Harris,
Yes, there are unfortunately problems with signing up on Firefox, should we point that out on the sign up page, you think? Thanks for sharing the information anyway!
I'm glad to hear and can't wait to welcome you as well.

Yes, you're right about that.
I have really tried everything that has stood in my power to fix it. Think it comes down to me using MailChimp for the list and thus for the form, why I can not correct in their JS.
The next step is to get one of the devs to look at it, but of course, it takes time away from the app -_-
But thank you so much for taking the time to come up with suggestions, appreciate it!
