We Just Encrypted Every User Conversation

Today I finished rolling out end-to-end encryption for conversation history in our platform.

This was one of the biggest infrastructure changes we've made so far.

The motivation was simple: conversations often contain highly sensitive information — business discussions, interviews, client calls, internal meetings, and personal notes.

Conversation data is now encrypted before storage, with encryption keys managed separately through Google Cloud KMS. This means that even if someone gained access to the database itself, the stored conversation history would remain unreadable.

The goal isn't just protection from external attacks. It's also reducing trust requirements inside our own system. Access to the database alone should never be enough to read user conversations.

As we're building an AI product around real-time conversations, privacy and security aren't optional features. They need to be part of the foundation.

Curious how other founders think about the tradeoff between AI features, data retention, and user privacy.
