We open sourced a CLI we built to clean JS build artifacts

While working across multiple JavaScript and TypeScript projects we kept running into the same issue: build artifacts piling up everywhere.

Folders like node_modules, dist, .next, .cache and coverage quickly accumulate across repositories and eventually consume a surprising amount of disk space.

Cleaning them manually across many projects becomes tedious.

So we built a small internal CLI that scans the filesystem and lets us browse and remove these artifacts interactively.

Once it proved useful internally, we decided to open source it.

The tool is called Dustoff.

It can:

• scan your filesystem for common build artifact folders
• sort and filter results
• group artifacts by directory
• select multiple items
• safely delete them

Curious if other developers run into the same issue across multiple projects and what build artifact directories appear most often in your workflows.
