Hey Indie Hackers 👋
My brother and I have been building SaaS products for the last couple of years. After growing BigIdeasDB to ~$8k in revenue, we kept running into the same problem while talking to founders and product teams:
Everyone talks about competitors.
No one tracks them properly.
So we started building Clairop.
The Problem
Product teams are shipping faster than ever.
Features. Pricing changes. Messaging pivots. Integrations.
Competitors are updating weekly, not quarterly.
But most teams:
Manually check competitor websites
Screenshot changelogs into Notion
Use scattered alerts with no context
Or ignore it completely
By the time someone notices a change, the window to respond is already gone.
Enterprise tools exist, but they are:
Expensive ($25k+ per year)
Sales-focused
Built for large orgs, not 10 to 200 person SaaS teams
SMB product teams are stuck in spreadsheets.
What We’re Building
Clairop automatically:
Monitors competitor websites, changelogs, and product updates
Tracks customer sentiment from reviews and complaints
Understands your roadmap and positioning
Turns competitor moves into clear next actions
Instead of:
“Competitor X changed pricing.”
You get:
“Competitor X moved to usage-based pricing. Based on your roadmap and ICP, here’s what you should consider building or testing.”
The goal is not more data.
The goal is clarity.
Why Now?
Product cycles are shrinking
Competition is intensifying
AI makes real-time monitoring + contextual reasoning possible for the first time
There is no clear SMB-focused category leader
We believe competitive intelligence is shifting from:
Manual → Automated
Enterprise-only → Product-led
Traction So Far
Private beta live
10 companies actively using it
Monitoring real competitors
Shipping weekly based on feedback
Right now we’re focused on:
Improving monitoring reliability
Making recommendations sharper and less generic
Building core integrations (Slack, Linear/Jira)
Our Long-Term Vision
We want Clairop to become the intelligence layer that sits on top of product teams:
Not just “what changed?”
But “what should we do about it?”
If we hit product-market fit, we think this becomes foundational infrastructure for modern product orgs.
I’d Love Feedback On:
If you’re a founder or PM, how do you currently track competitors?
What is the most painful part of competitive tracking today?
Would you trust AI to recommend roadmap decisions? Why or why not?
We’re building this in public and would genuinely value raw feedback.
Appreciate this community a lot.
Happy to answer anything.
AI-native tools are transforming SaaS by automating intelligence gathering for product teams, addressing gaps in traditional dashboards and enabling faster decision-making in competitive landscapes. As agentic AI grows, it disrupts manual processes, allowing smaller teams to compete like enterprises without the overhead, though ensuring meaningful signals over noise will be key to widespread adoption.
