We’re coffee profitable now ☕🥳

We started building LaunchPedia in november last year. Our goal was to make it the ultimate resource for founders who're preparing for a product launch.

I and my co-founder left our 9-5 Job this January to build it full time.

And we decided that we'll keep all our products free. We thought if people found our products useful, we can make money through donations or sponsorships.

Here is how much money we made in the first 3 months of building LaunchPedia:

November - $0
December - $0
January - $0

Yes we made $0 from LaunchPedia the first 3 months of our launch.

We were an inch close to giving up.

But we decided to continue and give our everything one last time.

So We built and launched 2 products from LaunchPedia:

  1. LaunchPedia tools
  2. Places to promote your startup

And as we launched new products and talked about it,

The community loved it and our website traffic slightly started to rise with each launch.More & more people started visiting our website.

Finally we made our first dollar in February when a Indie saas founder decided to sponsor for a featured listing on our site for 2 weeks.

It was a very small amount but nevertheless we were very excited to make our first dollar.

And if this couldn't get better, just when the sponsorship was about to end,

Another SaaS was interested in sponsoring for a featured listing in LaunchPedia for march.

They decided to sponsor for the whole month of March for $200

And we're finally coffee profitable ☕

And best part is, all our sponsorship requests are inbound where the sponsors reached out to us.

So if you're building a side project or startup you believe in, don't give up too soon and just keep pushing forward even if it feels like giving up.

You may be just one small push away from your win.

I've always been attracted by such kind of business, but what really blocked me so far ( i come from b2b) is how difficult it is to project any income. Looks like "binary" (success vs failure, nothing in the middle). How do you deal with that?

    1. 2

Yeah. This is not an usual form of business and it takes a lot of time before you can land sponsorships. Ideally if you want to make money from day 1 , you can consider offering a productised service that complements your free products ( a dfy kind of service) and charge a premium for it.

Launchpedia is a nice idea. You worked hard for it. Enjoy your success. Best wishes.

Congrats! I'm interested in the term "coffee profitable", what exactly does that mean? might be a nice benchmark to add to my product goals. 😀

    1. 2

Coffee profitable means that the startup is generating enough revenue to cover
its basic expenses, such as rent, operational expenses, and utilities, but not enough to pay the founders a full-time salary yet.
