Hey IndieHackers 👋
@sathesh95 and I started LaunchPedia on Jan 8 2023 and it’s been a year of highs and lows.
9 milestones in our Journey
Initially, our plan was to keep the content free and monetize our website through sponsorships
Made our $1 in Feb by featuring Launchlist. Then, we introduced multiple levels of sponsorships and made around $400 till April
Realized that the sponsorship model was not scalable. So, we were looking for other ways to monetize.
We started offering Product Hunt consultations and did 10 free calls. But after that, it didn't go well as makers wanted us to launch their products on PH instead of a consultation.
At this point, we were so close to shutting down LaunchPedia as we were not making any money and burning our savings. Then, on one fine day, @Nithin_Jawahar suggested that why can't we build digital products 🤔
So, we built our first digital product - Product Hunt Kit (A library of PH examples), and it got a good response from our newsletter subscribers.
Understood that there is potential in digital products and we decided to build the Product Hunt Workbook. While building it, we launched 3-4 mini products to validate the idea and to build our email list.
And finally, we launched Product Hunt Workbook. It was a blockbuster. We made $4000+ in sales from the workbook.
After the success of the workbook, we pivoted LaunchPedia from a content site to a digital product store. With this pivot, we were ramen profitable for 3 months straight.
So, we decided to double down on building digital products in LaunchPedia for 2024.
Thanks to each and every one who has given suggestions, product ideas, and valuable feedback. 🤗
Hope we will continue building LaunchPedia in 2024 too and celebrate 2nd year anniversary 🥂
