We went through great onboarding emails and found what they have in common

Great onboarding emails don't need to have impressive design. They should provide a clear path for new users to follow to get as much value from your product and as quickly as possible.

While creating Palabra's onboarding, we went through our favorite plain text emails:

• Notion's awesome and personal onboarding (simple styling).
• Superhuman's daily bits of information on its greatest features (only text and images).
• Zest.is drips using only plain text and images or gifs (our personal favorite).

Here's what we learned:

1. Welcome emails are more than a confirmation, they make you feel as part of something and provide immediate value
2. A name and a face help engagement, and start conversations between the team and users
3. Emojis can also communicate information (to be used with caution)
4. Try different sequences and don't be afraid to send a lot of emails, as long as they each provide a clear value
5. Thank yous matter, ask for feedback and thank users to engage them in a conversation
