I've never hired a company like that but I currently work at a boutique software consulting firm.

For indie hacker type projects it'd probably make more sense to hire a freelancer unless you have large cash reserves. A consulting firm can easily be over $100/hr and can get expensive pretty quick.

As far as is can it be successful or not? Yes. I'd definitely recommend finding someone who can give you a reference and not hiring a firm cold. There are some firms that are used to shipping new products quickly and effectively and specialize in this. Other firms may specialize in long term meandering corporate projects.

We're doing work for a client right now that spent 3 years having another consulting firm build out an app and the app was never finished. Probably hundreds of thousands of dollars basically wasted since the code they produced is barely salvageable.
