Web spam attacks

I've built a website over the last couple of years, but now it's being attacked with 1000s of spam links (negative seo, google hacking). This causes rankings to plummet (lost 40% already). It had like 10.000 legit links before.

These spam links started appearing out of nowhere, but I suppose a competitor is doing it. Is blogging basically dead?

because anyone can create 1000s of spam links from a domain

If you think that those backlinks are hurting your rankings, there's a way to tell Google to ignore them (disavowing backlinks is the term-of-art).

Create a text file with malicious domains and upload it to the Google Search Console. Be careful because this is a nuclear option.

Is it possible to block the bad backlinks? (I'm using Netlify)

The links show up in google search console and the disavow tool removes them, but about 100 at a time. They added over 10.000 bad backlinks
