Website Feedback Please!

Hi All!

We are a creative agency based in New York and are looking for your feedback on our site. Feedback can be general or page specific.

Here is a link to our site.
https://slate-nyc.com

We have decided to market our work as opposed to messaging on each service, however, are looking for ways to also add messaging onto our site.
We are considering a spin off website for our e-commerce division to further tell the story of our e-commerce offerings and not dilute it on our main page.

Any constructive feedback would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Quick takes are: clean layout and nice b/w photos but font size is small and hard to follow and there is a blank line near join in top corner...hope this helps!

    Agree with previous comments.

I clicked the link then took a second to switch tabs so the first image I saw was the perfume (?). I initially thought it was broken because it was black text over/under a black image: https://www.dropbox.com/s/2kc0co6w876371x/2019-12-09-075541_1874x920_scrot.png?dl=0

As noted by someone else, there needs to be a clear "this is what we do". Small text, especially on a large screen, makes users have to work hard to read to understand what you do. Adding in moving/changing pictures makes this even harder. By nature human eyes are drawn to movement/changes so it is very hard to read while movement/change is going on. The larger the movement/change the harder it is (consider a small animation in the bottom corner, like a chat box vs. the large changing images of your site). Finally, if you are going to have images on your site, I suggest the images be related to what you do and/or your past work (or are you suggesting you designed the perfume bottle?).

Look at me, talking about UI/UX when I'm the first to say I'm terrible with UI/UX.

To finish with positive, I do really like the B&W and the borders around the text. It's simple and clean, and I think you are moving in the right direction. You probably want to take my/all advice with a grain of salt and consider who your user or target demographic is. More artistic people might appreciate your site as it is now whereas indie hackers and developers may find it doesn't work for them.

    Hope that helps,

The division in 2 screens is too strong to me, I don't understand if you're one or two separate things, also because on the left pane you describe something while on the right you have another list. Furthermore, the list on the right is more or less replicated on the top menu, I would keep one or the other (eventually labeling the list as "our expertise").

The top-right "Join" text box doesn't seem a text box, maybe add an email address as a placeholder and a border or background to delimit the field.

About the footer, it's right to keep the flat B/W style but it's hard to understand the content because you can't distinguish the titles from content, I would play with font size and weight and border thickness. Also, I would avoid using Serif font just there, or you use it more Serif in specific places and for a specific reason (i.e. for titles only) or don't.

Overall, I like the black and white flat style, it's very fashion and Vogue like, it conveys the message that you're in the fashion industry, yet I would go forth and like in the footer I would play with font size and weight and border thickness. Maybe you could try to add "asymmetry" to the website.

Ahh that was long! Hope it helps!

Why isn't there a headline to describe what you are or what you do? or who it's for?
