Websites for Self-published/agency-published book authors
There is an idea forming in my head to create a way for book authors to start their own sites. Would love some feedback from people in this industry or someone who has some knowledge on that part.
The idea would be pretty simple and the base of the site would be WordPress. With the use of Elementor, authors can easily get their sites up and running and have enough control to manage their site. Since I have built custom elements, I could provide custom elements specifically for Authors in the page builder.
My plan would be that they could purchase a package for example (initial setup fee + $20/month) or a one-time configuration on their own hosting (initial setup fee + 2*yearly hosting value).
To test this idea, I would have to invest around $200-300 + 1 (max 2) month of coding the solution myself, so financially, my other products could support the test phase.
But I would like to hear from fellow indie hackers if someone has already tried something like that. Or if they know someone who would be interested in a service like that.
As a writer, I think it sounds very interesting! You'd absolutely need to find ways to differentiate it from WordPress and SquareSpace - something to make it appeal directly to writers. My instinct would be to offer really beautiful themes and designs that are very easy to use, so it becomes more "just add what you're good at: words!"
Thanks! I was planning to have a few version of a theme and then focus on so-called Elementor Templates which you import with a click and your page gets such design. Then you can easily edit the parts you need to edit.
Not sure if that would be a great feature or would that be too cumbersome for authors to do it.
That sounds good to me! I'd suggest letting some people with zero tech or web design experience play with your MVP to see if it's workable.
I love this! Was just jotting down some ideas for a book today. Honestly the only thing stopping me from publishing is the worry that I won't get enough traffic on my site to buy the book, so if you could find a solution for this too in some way, it'd be perfect!
The traffic/marketing part is the hardest part for any product/business. But since I am also a developer of Simple Giveaways, this solution would have my premium version included for free which could drive more audience and followers by giving away a few copies of the book maybe.
With some other SEO tools, the optimisation for search engines would go easier but other than that, the best way to get traffic is through blogging and providing some value to your potential readers :)
But I would see to provide some additional value through suggestions on that part through the articles as well.

Hi this is pretty cool i m working on a simple launching calendar, the idea is to publicly present when you gonna launch a book, i think it would help gain traction, send me an email if you want to be partner and if you're interested
Sounds like a nice product! I'll setup a landing page first for it while working on. But once I am ready with my mvp, I'll contact you so we can discuss it further to see how that can be integrated as well within it :)
