A lot happened this week. Here's what we shipped and learned.
What we built:
iOS home screen widget — check your daily tasks without opening the app
Replaced streak tracking with consistency windows ("10 of the last 14 days" instead of a streak counter — the psychology is completely different)
Integrated PostHog analytics to finally understand what users actually do in the app
Fixed several bugs
What we launched:
First paid acquisition channel: Apple Search Ads, €5/day targeting "habit tracker", "goal planner", "AI planner" in US, UK and Italy
Updated App Store metadata: new subtitle "Goal Tracker & Habit Planner", new description, new keywords
What we learned:
Streak tracking was causing users to quit after missing one day (abstinence violation effect) — removing it was the right call
Reddit is our best organic channel so far: r/getdisciplined hit 710 views, r/theXeffect hit 2.1K views with real conversations
Without analytics you're flying blind — PostHog should fix that
Numbers:
Downloads: 10 total (+233% this month)
Revenue: $0
Apple Search Ads: just launched, first data coming in
Still far from first paying customer. But shipping.
The streaks → consistency-windows change is the kind of psychology call that's hard to make once a number is already in the app — props for actually shipping it instead of just debating it. The Reddit number jumps out at me: 2.1K views on r/theXeffect with real conversations is way more signal than 10 downloads suggests. Have you tried adding a single "what stopped you from downloading?" question to the threads where you got real engagement? Might unblock the conversion gap faster than Apple Search Ads can.
Thanks — that's exactly the kind of friction I want to understand better. The gap between 2.1K views and ~10 downloads is what keeps me up at night honestly. Adding a "what stopped you?" question to the active threads is a zero-cost experiment I hadn't considered. Going to try it today.
