How did you fare last week?
So.. almost got the PoC of my new "in between" project working.
As mentioned earlier it is a sort of replacement for functionality that was dropped by VMware in the latest release of VMware Workstation.

They called it "shared virtual machines" whereas I call it Vimarun
The name is a bit of a play on Vimalin and "run" as having your VM's automatically run on boot time is basically what it is about.
There's a bit more to it, like that you also want your VMs to automatically suspend when your host is shut down (or restarted because of a Windows update), that your selected VMs should run before you login, that you can use all other features like USB passthrough etc..

To be frank the feature that VMware scrapped could do a lot more, but I'm not entirely convinced that all features where used much or even needed by most users. So let's find that out, by building this and by asking a few questions at the beta sign up form (see the vimarun site)

What's on deck for this week?
Try and get vimarun in the hands of a few beta testers.

    Goal for the month?
    Release vimarun (ha!)

That's a nice play on words, I love it!

      1. 1

        It's definitely catchy!

    2. 1

I actually have no doubt that you'll launch this by end of month! Kudos to you for getting a beta up and running in less than a month! Impressive!

Looking forward to this week's update and learning what the beta testers think!

      1. 1

So far they are still signing up.

Bumped into a snag that I first want to workaround a bit before getting it to them.

My main gig also sat in the way, but I guess that's why it is called the main gig.

    [LAST WEEK]

    Lots of good stuff.

    • After a glorious vacation, I got honest with myself. I decided that churning out a daily newsletter and progressing in my full-time gig wasn't a recipe for sanity.
    • I am launching my weekly newsletter this Monday.
    • Revamped my LinkedIn page and website to reflect my the format. I also added some street cred as was recommended by the crew.

    [THIS WEEK]

    • Populate a LinkedIn scheduler for the upcoming week. (Anyone have recommendations?)
    • Proofread the intro + first newsletter of Module 1 (and pull together any needed assets).
    • Write newsletter #11.

    [GOAL FOR THIS MONTH]

    Hmmm. I've 14 days remaining. I'll go for 14 sign-ups.

    [YEAR END GOAL]

333 subscribers and 10K. (Grinning) I've a lot of work to do in just 2.5 months!

    [BRIEF DESCRIPTION]

Diversity Decoded is a weekly newsletter to help engineering managers refactor tech teams for diversity.

Hey, noticed there is something wrong with your anchor button. It looks like it links to #subscribe, but does not trigger a scroll down to the anchor in chrome, I'm currently on the latest version.

      This is what I see

      1. 1

Thanks for this catch, @koaty! I'll debug this today!

    2. 2

Honesty! Transparency! Music to my ?eyes? Love it, refine and move forward!

      1. 1

Yeah. The effort feels less formidable and more sustainable. Forward, indeed!

    3. 2

A weekly newsletter is certainly sufficient.
It's not just the work for you, but also for your readers in order to keep up with what you write. I'd say it won't even change the amount of money people are willing to pay for it. (How's that for efficiency, 7 times less work!)

And wow, writing newsletter #11 already. You do have some content ready to go once you go live!

      1. 2

Written. But not edited or proofed. Found out this week, both take a considerable amount of time. Further confirmation that a weekly cadence is the right cadence!

  3. 2

Hey, this is my first post where I'm actually building something to make money!

A lot has happened in the past few months,

We launched order.ly starting as a QR menu service, but with some bigger plans for down the road.

My goal for this month is to come up with a plan to reach out to at least 20 potential customers in a given day. Before I can make that happen I want to make sure our marketing site is phenomenal with a built in "see it right now" demo.

End goal for 2020 is to have at least 20 paying customers.

This week I'm going to build out that demo view and build out a spreadsheet that I will absolutely force myself to fill out once a day with 20 potential customers that I have directly reached out to.

    1. 1

      Welcome! Great to have you!

*Love your logo! Bright and cheerful with a touch of old school.

Personally, I think 3 lines are a bit long for a headline. Perhaps, "Does your mobile menu suck?" And then a simplified tagline such as, "We make sure your customers aren't frustrated ordering on mobile." And then your CTA (which is great, but beneath the fold). And make that sucker bigger!

And as for the remaining content, I'd include those in the next section and rewrite 'em in either "benefit" or "pain" format. For example, "Menus optimized for mobile result in #% more orders"(benefit) or "Customers don't like to pinch and zoom" (pain).

Great start and look forward to following along!

Has it been a week already? I have some life changes coming up so I decided to enter the job market again and got my resume updated and out. Getting some great inbound from recruiters and have a good lead or three already.

    [Last Week]

    • Added a "Dream" slide to the deck and sent it out to another person
    • Set out some feelers for appetites for seed investment currently
    • Spent a couple days working out a pipeline and structure on Kajabi after learning the ropes of it. I really like working with it, it's something I would have spent a lot of time coding.
    • Made some videos and experimented with messaging
    • Launched the pre-launch offer for the Startup Modeling for Founders course
    • Made the complete course outline and got about 50% of the way through the content

Unfortunately I've gotten zero response to my deck, I don't think anyone's even looked at it yet, just a busy time or whatever. That's the way the cookie bounces! Not to say no one WILL look at it, but that my timeline is more aggressive than theirs is.

    [This Week]

    • Try to get 50% of the way through the business modelling course
    • Figure out how to setup another Pipeline in Kajabi to run a ProductHunt special
    • Launch the special offer on ProductHunt
    • Launch the course on the 23rd

    [October Goals]

    • Bring the Lift Squad mobile app up to parity with the React web app
    • Release a mini course for founders

    [Project]
    Lift Academy
Safe online community for kids with classes/events/friend matching

    [Year End Goal]
$10k MRR. Still the potential to hit my target

    1. 1

In the flurry of IH notifications, I think I saw you've had a major personal pivot? Keenly waiting for this week's update with the deets!
