Thanks for running this standup! I've never participated before, it looks like a great idea

    Last week

I pushed out the prototype of my new newsletter, It's Not Magic. I intended to get feedback this week before I started promoting it, and someone subscribed from the IndieHackers milestone that I posted. Happy surprise, haha.

What's on deck for this week?

    • Get feedback on It's Not Magic
    • Figure out whether it'd be worth promoting the first issue anywhere
    • Write the second issue, about why the math shows that you should launch your MVP ASAP
    • Some administrative stuff not worth mentioning

What's your goal for the month?

I want to get at least 10 subscribers for my newsletter, and have qualitative conversations with 5 of my newsletter subscribers about the challenges that they face in getting users in the door

    1. 2

Love your newsletter concept! I'm a lover of spreadsheet modeling as well, I wish more people understood how useful it is!

How did you fare last week?
Sorry for missing to post last week.

I did end up updating both Vimalin as well as releasing Vimarun.

Ended up selling 7 licenses during the "black friday" sales, so made a cool 70 bucks on Vimarun.

It's not a lot, but you have to start somewhere and at least there is some sales and not just people testing.

What's on deck for this week?
Very busy with a infrastructure change for my servers at the data center, but will try to look into a fix for some bug reports (one for vimalin and one for vimarun)

    Goal for the month?
    Same as my EOY goal.

    End of Year goal
Keep on growing the sales for Vimalin.

    Brief description
Vimarun - run VMware Virtual Machines automatically.
Vimalin - automated Virtual Machine backups for VMware Fusion, Workstation and Player.

    1. 1

SEVENTY BUCKS. That's $70 you didn't have. Nice!! Pretty awesome that someone validated your work :)

    @Laylo:

    Last week

We secured a paid pilot with one of the largest music distributors, AWAL.

We also launched new customization features, the ability to directly message with your signups and support for custom Privacy Policies.

What's on deck for this week?

Finishing up our Enterprise tier launch
Filming and editing a new ad campaign
Rolling out Themes for custom landing page appearence

What's your goal for the month?

Hoping to sign up at least 50 new creators to the platform before Jan 1!

    Last Week
Bit of a dumpster fire in getting anything notable done last week. Getting reoriented with the kids back home with remote learning has been a struggle. Positive note is I started with a new client in my consulting work.

    This Week

    • Make a design prototype of the digest email and browser extension
    • Update landing page with refined copy and design mock ups
    • Prep emails to list and start sending out by the end of the week

    December Goal

    • Alpha MVP live and early users using the service. Still pushing for 5 paid users by the end of the year but feels that's slipping a bit. Pushing to make more notable progress this week.

    Project Description
Browse Me Later is an email reminder to help you set aside focused time to check out articles, websites, and videos.

    1. 2

I understand completely, 3 of em here. We homeschool though so it's pretty easy to take days off if we need to switch gears! Grats on the new client :)

      1. 1

We've considered moving them to home schooling because of the scheduling nightmare it's been. Only reason we haven't is because I don't trust my self to find social networks for them.

        1. 1

          That's a biggie!

  5. 2

(Damn. Almost forgot to post today. Had to go "into work" since I swapped my Friday for Sunday. Back tomorrow with an update!) @vimalin Don't think I didn't notice you didn't post last week!

    1. 1

I had a nuts week last week, so many job interviews, a divorce trial. So I extended my weekend through today and I'm just posting now ;)

    2. 1

LOL, I didn't think it wasn't a problem, but had my mind elsewhere.

    Hi Pals

Here is how my last check-in update.

    Last week

    Reading
    e-myth Revisited - Michael E. Gerber

    Summary

The book gives reasons why most small businesses don't work and what to do about it.

It talks about the business franchise prototype method that creates a business that will run without you.

It takes McDonald as an example Ray Kroc the owner was able to build a business that was replicated in more than 120 countries. He created a system that runs without him.

    Announcr MVP Goals

    1. "I come home and am announced over a speaker on arrival in my driveway and when I walk in the door"
    2. "I walk into a Target store and am announced over a speaker in a grandiose manner"
    3. "I can use the custom announcement feature to advertise something about myself that I want people to know"

    Last Week

    • Revised the UI for mobile app user flow, and stubbed in the backend/sql queries
    • I whittled down the data payload fields that were coming from the backend for location search, as I am not using half the fields and resulted in a nice IO speedup
    • Realized I couldn't use location services OR BlueTooth on the location devices as Amazon has disabled all kinds of permissions for FireTV apps. This caused me to alter the setup flow significantly, and introduced some other monkeywrencher which I will need to sort out ASAP
    • I created some market testing landing pages, but haven't pushed any traffic through them yet

    This Week

    • Sort out the device setup procedure
    • Sort out the location registration system in a way which doesn't encourage bad behavior
    • Make a user flow UI/server code for custom Arrival AND Entrance messages

    Goal for December
A release to the DIY Smart Home crowd
