Welcome, introduce yourself! (Week of Apr 12th)

Rosie here -- the Indie Hackers community manager. Welcome! 👋

This short guide is meant to help you get the most out of Indie Hackers.

First, introduce yourself!

Indie Hackers is a community of people helping each other build profitable businesses and side projects. The key word here is "community." Don't be shy!

For starters, take a second to introduce yourself and share your goals in the comments below. 👇

Just say a few words about who you are, why you're here, and what you hope to accomplish or learn in 2020.

Hey guys, I'm the founder of www.SoundStage.fm, a company that's building products and services centered around virtual performances, a new concept that makes it possible for artists to perform for events anywhere in the world without the need for travel.

I consider myself a life long entrepreneur, always looking for opportunities to connect, collaborate, and learn from others, so I can grow and improve. Glad to be here! :)

    1. 1

My coworker is working on a matchmaking app for musicians, maybe you should reach out to https://www.jamrapp.com/

    2. 1

This is a great idea given the current environment! Nice work!

    3. 1

      so like a remote DJ?

      1. 1

yes, but better than a DJ, you're hiring legitimate artists, the same guys you might catch at big room events and music festivals, and getting a private show for your party via two-way videoconference, which makes for a very personal and intimate experience, allowing full two way interaction, almost as if the artist was physically there :)

    4. 1

      Cool company @avonian!
Like the graphics, and the concept. Noticed something that is worth looking into, your VueJS bundle is in dev mode, which means anyone (me) can access the Vue DevTools and your site will be slower as more things are included in the bundle in dev mode.

      1. 1

Thank you and pleasure meeting you @xcitic! The dev mode thing definitely slipped past my radar, will get that sorted out, We're in the midst of a full revamp anyways and will soon be relaunching the new platform with a proper CI pipeline :)

        1. 1

Awesome man, post an update when it's out ;)

Hello folks. My name is Andrea and I'm the founder of ... nothing :) I've been a long-time reader, listener of the podcast. I've launched many products in the past but I've always failed to make a single $. I attribute that to a lack of research on my part and the scary "shiny object" syndrome.

I would start a product and after shipping it, something else would catch my interest. I feel it's now time to make this stop and actually become a legit IH.

I've been a freelance web developer and teacher for the last 4 years and I set myself a pretty humble goal for 2020 (you gotta start from somewhere, right?); make 1$ online.

Let's see how that goes :)

    1. 1

Honestly this is a great goal! Start small and then work your way up. Very admirable!

    2. 1

      Love the $0 -> $1 goal. That's a big first step.

      1. 2

I agree. Although, I started a podcast about 6 months ago and I’ve now made $2.50. It doesn’t feel so amazing now that I’m there! I have so much more I want to achieve. Not millions, just a steady income.

        1. 1

I reckon than from 1$ the goal should go to like 10$, 50$, 100$ and so on and so forth

          1. 1

Very true. Small steps and each time we reach them, up the goal. Great motivators to keep going!

      2. 2

        Thanks, Mark! Appreciate it!

    3. 1

Love that you’re making a plan for success. I bet all of those ‘failed’ attempts have taught you a thing or two!

      1. 1

Definitely so :) Thank you so much for the support!

  3. 4

HELLO Hackers, I'm Kelvin, and I'm glad to be here. Shout out to @rosiesherry for this wonderful bridge into the community. And to @8bit for pointing the way here. Also also to @gordon who's doing something wonderful with Open Source Capital, surely something that we need going forward into the future.

I've been refining a framework for an integrated approach to wellbeing for quite some time now, from my own personal journey through some life-altering setbacks and wakeup calls. Having resolved and recovered from the whole process, I managed to develop something useful which I have shared with several people. My challenge this year is to put this framework and its applications out for more people to test it and perhaps be changed by it. If this framework can lower suicide rates, liberate others from a conditioned enslavement, and reinvigorate in them a sense of purpose, then it would all have been worth it.

When 2020 rolled around, I had this deep sense that this year would be especially important for me to be community with others and to start hosting real-life events again, which I used to do many years ago, and then the gradual global lockdown occurred, and now I am adjusting to the reality that perhaps community can also be forged online.... and I find myself here.
So, I suppose, more than ever now, it's true, we're all in this together.
Wishing everyone peace and progress in the days ahead!

    1. 1

so grateful for you to be here! this is one of the best places on the planet to build in the open! 😍

  4. 4

Hello hackers, My name is Yahia (you can call me yah). I'm currently a Boston University computer engineering major whos graduating this year (wohooo). I'm going down the software route and have been enjoying it a ton over the past few years.

I recently joined Stock Alarm, I've been in-charge of growing the company through the development of features (mostly backend) and growth hacks. The coolest thing about this project is that I was a user before I became a member/founder. I used to trade options a ton (like most college kids who have no idea what they're doing and are good at losing money) and needed an app that would inform me the second something interesting happened in the market (after all, I had some classes to go to). It's been a great journey so far with more to come! (http://stockalarm.io/)

  5. 3

Hi, I'm co-founding a company called Steer which will build custom applications for fishing vessel owners and skippers to use data to learn from what other vessels are doing. The main feature is basically a map of fishing vessels and although it's not entirely a new concept 90% of current applications are freemium with upselling options. I want to create a SAAS based model at a fixed monthly fee and focus on fisheries while today's approach is all vessels.

Previously I've worked in(no equity) a saas which was aqcuired by a Fortune 500, sold products on Amazon, designed and self-published a board game and a few other. Currently consulting software companies on onboarding, sales & operations along with running an independent brokerage for buy/sell side advisory on commodities & companies in seafood. I want to make Steer something bigger than just a side hustle.

I have been a passive browser of indiehackers for some time now. Looking to connect, share ideas, make mistakes, learn from mistakes and continuously keep learning about new thing and improvement.

    1. 1

This sounds really interesting. I love to see such varied projects on here. Good luck with development!

Hello everyone! I'm the founder of lifechangingmeditations.com, a business designed to help people connect with their Higher Self and change their life with meditation.

    1. 1

Wow, this is a great idea. I recently just finished reading The Power of Now and have been trying to get into meditation recently. Going to check this out!

    2. 1

Interesting. We are on similar mission. Please check preraktrivedi.com and let me know your thoughts. I'd love to chat with you sometime to figure out if we can collaborate.

      1. 2

Hi Prerak, I like your website and ideas. Just wanted to point out though that "Economy" is misspelled in your chart.

        1. 1

Oh Steve, just checked your message. Thanks for the heads up. Btw have updated the site with a better message.

  7. 2

Hey interesting and fun folks! Thanks Rosie for the starter pointers! I'm currently a senior hardware design engineer in Silicon valley focusing on consumer electronic. I graduated in 2015 and luckily stumbled into consumer electronics field but not without great adversity and struggled.
I consider myself to be always learning and seek to connect dots that shapes our world :-)

I wise there are more guidance into electronic system design for electrical and computer engineering students and young professionals today. Electronics design field has rapidly changed last decade with advent and rapid evolving smart and connected "devices"
I would like to provide more insight into this growing and exciting industry.

I set a personal goal for writing 1 page/day for a month about my experience and learning in consumer hardware design.
Check this page that I just finished: factory assembly flow https://www.hwe.design/fundamentals/manufacturing/factory

I wish everyone staying safe and healthy! Most importantly maintain a clarity of mind that help you navigate through your struggles and achieving your goals!

    Hey one and all,

I'm Michael and found IH fairly fortunately. I am about a month away from launching my new business www.educatingabroad.com (some design tweeks, testing etc)

I and my wife (both from the UK) moved to Vietnam a couple of years ago as she is a headteacher at an international school here. I am a Recruitment manager by profession working in Education and healthcare so with my free time I learnt wordpress and created a WordPress Web design business which was fairly decent and won a few customers but I always had my mind on creating Educating Abroad.

I have loads of ideas but never the tech know-how so I'm looking to gain some inspiration and motivation.

Being from HR and sales I have a fairly good business understanding so hopefully I can give back to the community in these areas 😊

    Apologies for the waffling!

    Have yourself an awesome day!

    Michael

Hello everyone! My name is Isaac Jauregui, I graduated two years ago from computer science, but I took a break from programming and I did other activities related to my hobbies and not programming, in this years I was able to get new ideas on how to automate processes of daily life with programming, and now I am back in the programming, looking to take back what I learned one day. I found this amazing community through a YouTube Channel called "Code Drip" I also recommended. Anyways I consider myself a creative person, I like to learn from others and I also enjoy teaching others what I know how to do, so I know that I am in the right place to receive but also to give.

  10. 2

Hello folks. My name is Alex and I'm the founder of ... nothing :) I've always failed to make a single $ from online without investment of money. I attribute that to a lack of research on my part and the scary "shiny object" syndrome. I want to earn money as am a student of bs computer science

  11. 2

Hey everyone, I'm an electronics engineer by profession, co-founded a consumer electronics company right out of college at 21, and failed a year later. Currently am a broke, unemployed guy trying to claw his way up out of the ditch.

Right now, I'm moving on to my other obsession - building software for the web. I have been building web projects on the side for over 7 years now, and have decided to share my knowledge with people who are ready to go down the path of solopreneurship. I'm building a learning platform that helps people learn how to create the right web products for the market need, build it from scratch, from design to development, and finally, how to market their new product. It'll be a platform that'll have a brand new way of learning really fast - without being bored, even if you have short attention spans.

Joined Indie Hackers to see if there are people who've already done something like this, and learn from their experience and the mistakes they made along the way. Glad to be here!

  12. 2

How did it take me SO LONG to join this place? I guess just being too busy for my own good.

Anyways--I'm the founder of sovisual.co 👋 and have a couple other businesses (consulting and a couple premium WordPress plugins). I'm a SoCal native, coffee addict, and extrovert. Excited to explore this place and meet new interesting people.

    1. 2

      👋🏻 — i recognize you!

  13. 2

Hi there! I’m Rebecca Longman, or @lovetowork - I’m new to Indiehackers, but I’ve heard great things! I’m here to see what businesses and ideas people are creating and building , and to get some feedback on my own ideas. Looking forward to being part of this community.

  14. 2

Hey guys, I'm Nick, a founder working on www.handoff.design – a new UI design tool that exports to React and Vue.

I came here by recommendation of Evan You (he's the creator of Vue.js), and I'm looking forward to connect with founders to chat about growth, funding, user onboarding and just to get inspired by all the cool stuff others are building. See ya around! 😀

  15. 2

Hey there, I'm Dru. For several years I've been creating web apps for companies on a one-off basis. They've been quite specific to the business needs of a particular company and often are not resellable. About 3 months ago, myself and 2 business partners started on a journey to a mass-marketable B2B product for automotive and tire shops, and I am quite excited.

I'm coming here to try to get acquainted with this community as I have heard nothing but amazing things about everyone here. Glad to meet you all!

    1. 1

      Welcome Dru
Can you help me to find a job online for a web developer suck MERN stack dev

  16. 2

Hi everyone. My name is a tounge twister, so I’d prefer calling me Lefo. I hope somebody would find it in their heart to read what I’m about to type. I’ve literally watched every video and subscribed to every side income podcast there could be.

I need help to this one and only problem.

    1. Where I am from, South Africa, online market is tiny, so how do I approach this ?

I tried 3 online businesses last year into this year. Learn and instrument in 2 hours; web development, app creation.

Nobody is looking for that here; 60% of the country don’t even have access to internet — and I’ve found that some algorithms on the internet make it harder for any “outside” products to cut through an online market where the business model is sustainable, like the US.

To add based on research, 95% of the most visited websites/any online activity aren’t from start ups inside the country. They’re from the branches of companies started in America / Europe.

Unemployment here is at 30%. Money made online won’t even be for financial freedom, but so that people can feed their families.

Thanks to whoever has anything to say about this.

  17. 2

Hello IH! I'm a full-stack developer and product designer. I've been leading the digital product effort for a 7 figures e-commerce startup for the last 3 years and through my work there I've just been really bothered by the state of affairs when using 3rd party API like Shopify's. Lately, I've been building a product to tackle one of the issues I've been having. For the curious, I just released the MVP along with a landing page @ https://hookdeck.io. I'm excited for what's ahead. 🚀🧑‍🚀

    1. 2

Welcome to IH! I didn't even know that webhook reliability was an issue. Is the problem usually on the sender's or recipient's end? And are webhook users even aware there is a problem? I used Mailchimp webhooks a while ago and it didn't even occur to me that they might have errors.

      1. 1

Hey Steven, thanks for having a look I appreciate that. I have written an article about the problem that I just published. https://medium.com/@AlexBouchard/dealing-with-webhooks-sucks-but-theres-something-you-can-do-about-it-2a23ceb8c42?source=friends_link&sk=c62aceaba4a9d4a452823755d090b840 I'll be trying to convey more on that on our landing page. Is the problem clearer after that read?

        1. 2

Yes, much clearer. You should definitely incorporate these ideas into your website. It sounds like your product is geared towards webhook users whose use cases are either mission-critical and/or large enough in number that managing/monitoring is a pain.

In my Mailchimp case, it was only one webhook and definitely not mission-critical – worst case was that some customers wouldn't get my marketing emails. But if I did have mission-critical webhooks, then your article definitely persuaded me! The diagram was particularly good. It made it very clear how Hookdeck works while simultaneously making me think "I definitely do NOT want to roll my own one of those."

As a critique, I think your current website focuses too much on "what" (hook visibility, reliability, multi-platform) and not enough on "why" (the cost of mission-critical hook failures e.g. losing money, mad customers; the cost of not having a system and having to manually search for and clean up after webhook failures; the engineering and opportunity cost of rolling your own system; the ongoing cost and PITA of maintaining said system; general peace of mind knowing that Hookdeck is monitoring your app 24/7 and automatically retrying/fixing failures etc.)

Hope this feedback helps, and good luck!

          1. 1

Wonderful that's all great feedback, I'll be working on integrating that!

  18. 2

Hi everyone, delighted to meet you. I am Yusuff. I run a B2B SaaS blog where I review various products, write product recommendations and comparisons. Recently launched a new series of interviews with early stage and bootstrapped SaaS founders to share their story on building their product and company.

Have a read of the first episode and let me know if anyone is interested to have a chat on the blog.

  19. 1

Hey guys, my name is Daniel and I love building projects on the side. My team and I recently launched our brand new version of SecureAppy - a modern vault for families to organize passwords, photos and notes - all in one safe place. I know there are password/vault managers out there but we felt like they are just too cumbersome to use and they lacked the simplicity that everyone need. We believe storing/sharing passwords, photos and other things securely with family members should be as simple as storing or sharing pictures via snapchat. That is essentially the simplicity we built into SecureAppy to keep families organized and secure in our digital world.

SecureAppy is designed to keep all your valuable information neatly organized, quickly accessible, and completely private. It provides a safe place for families to freely share things with each other without worrying about the privacy, security, and misuse of their data.Check it out and let me know what you think! Would love your feedback! Check it out at https://www.secureappy.com/

My goal is to keep improving the app and have at least 1000 users using the app by the end of July. Currently there are about 400 users using it.I would love to learn how to grow users.

  20. 1

Hello people, I'm Mert, ios develop who loves to create experimental side projects.
I started to code since 2011 but just recently realized I have a problem with finishing something although I have lots of different projects none of them was a sustainable product which makes even a small amount of money.

So 2020 is dedicated to building something which is valuable for people to spend money on it. Therefore I have found here indie hackers it's like heaven for me to accomplish this year's goal.

This year so far I created 3 products and my strategy is to spray and pray 😂 because I don't want to be so focused on one idea and start to kill the time and do nothing.

So far I didn't make a single $ but it's fine 😂 With those projects I realized what do they mean by product development.. fck it's hard 😱

    Cheers,
    Mert

    Hello IH,
I am the co-founder of StepUp, a 3 minute video speed date app. It works in a chatroulette fashion where a user gets connected to another randomly, but to solve the unsolicited display of private parts, we added a blur.

Users can hang up any time during the call. If they make it through 1 minute, the blur will start to fade away. If they make it past two, then the video will be completely clear. After that, they can choose to like/dislike to further connect in messaging.

We released the MVP in October and now the more mature app in March, but we struggle to get any users as we face the typical chicken-egg question of community-driven platform. Feedback? Comments? Interest? I look forward to connect with you all. Thanks.

P.S. shout out to @MarcHoward for directing me here.

    1. 1

Nice to see you on here Kenneth--welcome and hope you make some great connections.

Hey guys I'm just an average joe, looking around this community. Interested in e-commerce drop shipping.

    Hi everyone,
I founded Sprintgrowth.com to start my PM freelance career. And I am evolving it into a platform where founders, investors and freelancers join forces. It will be a crowdfunding and freelancing marketplace altogether, currently in private beta. I will post updates, in the meantime if you want to hear more drop me a message

  24. 1

Yo! I'm the founder of http://ninjateam.org/
I manage a longtime team developing WordPress plugins.

    Hi All

I am Shweta Doshi, co-founder at https://greyatom.com/, building immersive learning experiences in areas of emerging tech - Data Science, AI, machine learning , Front end web dev. We are in the 3rd year of our journey and have had immense learning myself along the way. We rolled out an MVP in 3rd month of our existence and started acquiring and talking to users since then. Last year was a year of flat growth for us - lot of experiments, pivots. We are moving closer to achieve our "Product- Market" fit . I have recently been active on indiehackers and find a lot of value here.

I look forward to learn, be a better entreprenuer , connect and collaborate here

    Hi fellow indie hackers,

I have always wanted to make my mark as an entrepreneur, though I had always been a lurker on Indie Hackers due to my introverted personality, fightcovid19.live [link], was launched to get myself past the no-launch cycles but also to provide people with useful information and a new communication channel. Because I genuinely want to help people who are worth helping (including myself:p).

However, this project was a total failure in terms of traffic and “monetization (or the lack thereof)” despite my humble goal of just getting some coffee money, which then would enable me to build more tools for people that are negatively impacted by the coronavirus, or so I thought.

Learning the fallacy of “build it and they will come” took me here -- writing my first post to try to learn more about everything I’d need to make a useful product happen and to help fellow indie hackers who are in the same undesirable position I am in today.

Happy to be a part of this community. Big thanks to Courtland for this great product and all the efforts of making valuable information free and accessible!

    Hey 👋,

I just joined the community since my friend was telling me about it. I am a no-code developer and I also tutor other individuals to help them on their journey as well. I am the founder of www.NoCodeMinute.com and currently help those individuals use the Bubble platform to make web-apps and data-driven websites for their business ideas.

I look forward to meeting you all and joining the conversation. Can’t wait to see what you all are coming up with!

Hey everyone! My name is Jurko and I've recently been abruptly laid off from my full-time software engineering job. Some might call this tragic but I honestly consider it a bit of a blessing because I've been dreaming of starting my own indie adventure for the longest time. It feels like the perfect time to give this a shot. I have about 2 years of savings and will get some money from the government while I'm unemployed.

I've built one business so far but it's very small. It's called rust-crosshair.com, for anyone that plays the game Rust, it is a Crosshair that you can use in-game.

I'm very excited to join this community and to learn from all of you successful indie hackers :D!

  33. 1

Hi everyone, I'm super happy to have finally joined you all in this community. I'm an aspiring technical founder with tons of ideas I never act on. The latest one being a virtual queuing system similar to skiplino.com so shoppers can maintain social distancing in stores, and the most previous one; on-demand home cooked meals powered by a real-time chef-client interaction platform, virtual kitchens and a network of food fulfillment centres. Joined this community to gain inspiration and insight into how successful founders go from being passionate and full of ideas, to choosing one, focusing and being dedicated to it's success.

I like to think of myself as a life-long learner. My learning is currently narrowed on shaping myself into an incredibly good software engineer.

  34. 1

Hi Rosie! I appreciate the warm welcome message. I hope to learn a lot here and vive my contributivo to community. Thanks!

  35. 1

Hi! Long time lurker, first time posting! I'm a product manager in my day job and former software developer but I've long dreamed off creating my own thing on the side and one day turning that into a real business.

In theory I have many of the requisite skill sets and experience (market and user research, UX design, writing code, running a scrum team) but I haven't been able to package all of that together into making something on my own outside of the safety net of another company. I'm hoping that being on here can help motivate me and keep me accountable!

Also I really don't enjoy the sales and marketing aspect of things. This is a classic product person's downfall, the "if you build it they will come" mentality. Trying to break that habit :)

  36. 1

Hey everyone, I'm the co-founder of www.surveydatahub.com, our product helps you understand your customers. We store and analyze your survey data for you. This gives you the advantage of using our expertise for analysis and allows you to use a SQL compliant database if you want to dig into your data on your own.

I've been lurking around the forums for a while and decided to take the plunge. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here. Our #1 goal right now is to launch.

  37. 1

    Hello guys,

My name is Marcos, I’m a frontend developer from the Caribbean working remotely since 2016.

I’ve been reading IH since Feb and I have found this community to be the humblest around the internet when talking about bootstrapping a side project, so I decided to join the community to share my journey to my first $100 with my side project :)

    Glad to be here.

Hi all! I am Reza, the founder of trainermade. www.trainermade.com is a platform for personal trainers to create customized workout programs for their clients. I see it as a way for personal trainers to be completely digital, or a way to supplement their already in-person training sessions.

I've been working on this fulltime after 15 years of experience in corporate America and I'm super excited for the future! Listening to the stories from the Indie Hackers podcast definitely gave me the inspiration and motivation to push through the tough times.

I'm curious about whether I can improve the experience of accounting services online - not entirely sure yet how. Going to kick off a few tests around a couple of pain points I'm aware of and go from there.

I've started multiple useful projects but never really scaled up because of opportunity costs. I'm ready to take it to that next level, so that's why I joined IH. Hello everyone!

How's things? I have been in the background checking all the nothing but excellent stuff IHs are sharing! Looks like it is a great community so wanted to say hi :) I am a web and graphic designer, working in the marketing field for a few years now. 5 years ago, I moved to London from Argentina, so I am always up for a chat in spanish or english, why not some spanglish? :D

Always happy to help with branding, web, more UI than anything else, and graphic design, so if you need to pump your project(s) up, do not hesitate letting me know. Love to work on side projects.

Hi everyone, I'm Naser Mirzaei a software engineer that joined indie hackers recently.

I'm creating a service (BaaS) that provides almost everything a developer needs as the backend of an application. So, with these services, the developer can focus on developing the application. As I experienced, most mobile developers don't like or have not enough knowledge in backend development and they need a backend developer for their application.

And in this way, I'm alone and need cofounders (tech and non-tech) to keep going and continue this project.

I started its API with Golang and its Dashboard in VueJS.

  53. 1

Hi everyone, I am Utku! I know it is hard to spell :) Anyway, I am a software engineer with 7 years in the field. So far, I worked at nice companies, but I think I never liked to work for someone else. Thus, I did the thing and QUIT my job last month without any plan at all! :D I felt like It is the only way for me to get out of the comfort zone.

What happened after? Well, I read some book, spent time to think about life :), had good time briefly. Now, I want to take action, follow the entrepreneurial instinct that I have for a long time and build something. Something meaningful!

I have no idea where this journey will end, but I think here is a good place to start. Happy to be part of this community. Looking forward to collaborate on and wish you all the best!

Hi folks! I created https://soundscape.world, an interactive music visualizer that lets you build your own beats. I aspire to use similar techniques in a product that allows users to create engaging audiovisual content on the fly.

I've been a long-time listener of the podcast, but I'm finally ready to join the site and start participating here in the forums.

I look forward to meeting some of you along the way!

At such a time as this, when the whole world seems to be on lockdown, I'd love to keep up with what the people are doing, thanks for having me. cheers

    hi indie hackers 👋👋👋

I'm a solopreneur programmer who has run an e-commerce marketplace that specializes in law notes for 10+ years: https://www.oxbridgenotes.co.uk/ It's been successful in my terms—i.e. it's covered all my financial needs. The peak revenue was a good bit over $20k/month and traffic over 230k sessions/month. But, as you can imagine in the education market, there's a strong seasonal component.

I've created a video of my origin story (how I got the idea for the MVP, how I launched it, how I got my first customers etc.) over on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKXlZz-wbmg

About me personally: I'm Irish but I've lived in Berlin for some time. For fun, I like reading, goofing around with music (singing, piano, ukulele, Abelton Live), and am not impartial to a good session at the pub.

What brings me here: I'm looking for a change and so I want to start another business this year and get it to $2k monthly recurring revenue by year end (even if it costs $2.5k to get there). I have a few contenders, but the one I'm most fond of is programming screencasts for senior developers, likely starting with a series on my favorite editor, Vim.

  57. 1

Hey guys, I'm Vid. I love innovation and building software. I'd like to grow in the terms of product development, all of the surrounding activites and hopefully starting a business. I see this community as a perfect opportunity to thrive in that manner. Will be thankful for any kind of feedback in different channels on this platform ;)

    Hi Rosie (@rosiesherry) et. al

I hope you're well. Looks like a nice site & community here.
I was once a one-time community manager over at www.mixcloud.com for a number of years, so I can appreciate your efforts. Feel free to reach out if you want to swap CM tips?

I am now working on a new site / service over at http://screenstreamer.com/ - a simple tool to help people record, share and stream their screens. It may be of use to you and the wider IH community?

    Best,
    Rich

Hi! I'm co-founder of NAIVE Software - a software development team from sunny California.
Our product is based on computer vision technology and is capable to edit professional raw video materials. It saves days to video professionals at the post-production stage. See product demo on our site: https://naive.pro/
In fact our technological capabilities are way larger, e.g. we can autogenerate any number of videos with different actors from the same corporate event using the same video footage.

We’ve faced an issue that growing professional audience is expensive and complecated. I would really appreciate any feedback on our landing page and product!

Hi Rosie - this a great way of building a community. Loving the intro prompt!
Been a freelancer FE since a while now and just stumbled across the site.
I'm here to look for inspiration for sites and my first find is actually https://passbase.com/.

It's very rare to find a nicely design B2B tool

Hi, my name is Bing. I am here because I want to see if I can grow an idea into a product / business that actually helps people and at the same time earns money that supports myself. I'm more of a hacker than an entrepreneur. I have built fairly complicated, functional systems in the past all by myself. However, this is the first time that I attempt to build something of my own. Needless to say I'm both a little bit nervous and also quite excited.

My goal in this year is to experiment and explore. The specific goals are (1) launch my first product, and (2) earn the first dollar from it. Glad to find this community. Will surely check other people's stories and learn. And wish that by the end of this year I will also have my own story to share.

    Cheers!

Hello All, I'm the founder of www.qadeputy.com, a test management platform we are just launching. We built the platform to solve our own internal QA problems (day job) where existing test management tools fell short for the team. We figured if it solved our problems it could solve problems for other QA teams out there.

I've been working in software development for over 20 years and currently lead a team of 20+ developers building SaaS time and attendance solutions.

Hey folks! Software Engineer here working for a startup. No, it's not my own startup but I love it! I am about 3 years out of college now and attempting to continue growing my development skills as well as others that might come with pursing a side project. I found IH after searching for some Podcasts to listen to on Spotify. I will say it's taken me a couple of days to actually create an account and post something. (But that's what this is about). I have a terrible time with always second guessing myself and judging myself, which inevitably prevents me from following through on any side projects. So today, I am getting started. Not sure what that means quite yet, but I want to find a passion project outside of work or at least try and follow through on some ideas. And from what it seems, the kind hearts and wonderful advice of this community will help drive me. Happy to be here and can't wait to get started!

I'm currently working on a new business developing business & marketing planners as agency work has slowed down a good bit during this time...

I'm here to connect, share what I know about marketing, and hopefully learn from others here that have launched digital products as I dive into this new endeavor.

    Hi,

I'm Steve and I helped come up with www.screenstreamer.com, a service that allows anyone to create, upload and share content from within a modern web browser for free! I think it's a really cool tool that could help a few people and I'm looking to spread the word.

My background is with software start-ups and I saw an immediate use for technical trouble-shooting, just show us the problem. We've also seen the service used to record demos, to show a particular feature and for educational purposes.

Feel free to sign up and have a play.

Hey guys! I'm an aspiring entrepreneur that has half-started/launched dozens of businesses that never went anywhere. Truth of the matter is I always seem to lose motivation or slowly realize the concept may be over my head/not what I am passionate about going all in on.

Im here to share some more ideas, learn from others and eventually find that business or direction that I want to head in so I can finally pursue my dream of quitting my comfy full time job and become a full time entrepreneur!

Hi new friends 👋I'm a full time software engineer at a small startup, but I'm always tinkering with side projects and hoping to build one of them into a business in the near future.

I'm also a proud new parent! My son just turned 4 months and I want to keep my family as my highest priority while still making meaningful progress toward my entrepreneurial goals. I'm hoping to find inspiration from others who are successfully navigating a similar path.

Hi All, I'm a co-founder of Poda.io a SasS product we created for product managers who need to align their team to a product strategy.

Poda is an opportunity mapping tool that motivates teams by clearly showing how their work aligns to shared goals. Unlike other road-mapping tools such as Roadmunk, we acknowledge that a product roadmap is not linear. Poda visually represents the multiple paths forward in an easy to interpret way that shows how each path is tied back to company goals.

We're a small group of friends trying to solve a some problems that we have encountered in our day jobs, trying to build something up on the side.

I'm here to learn from the community and share my experience as I go. I would love to find a mentor with experience in product management to help guide me on the journey to develop my qualitative research skills.

Hi, I'm a full stack developer based in Finland. For a long time I've been dreaming of starting my own company to work on my own products and now I'm finally taking the first steps towards it.

ATM I'm trying to learn as much as possible on how to get started and how to find a good market and idea.

I rarely write on online forums but IndieHackers seemed to be such a welcoming community that I decided to join :)

    Hi Awesome Hackers!

My name is Ásgeir Gunnarsson from Iceland, Reykjavík. 26 years old with a passion for webdevelopment and entrepreneurship. Ruby on Rails developer.

Have been following indiehackers for a while and decided today to join the kickass community.

Gained a lot of entrepreneurship experience while studying. Founded a company where we made a digital key exchange box, decided to pick study over business.

Have a BS degree in Mechanical engineering. My latest project was an icelandic rental portal. Reached 720 users without spending anything on marketing.

Planning my next project to be international because the market in Iceland is way to small.

    Looking forward to connect!

  89. 1

Hey everyone! Stoked to be part of the community as a freelance motion designer turned entrepreneur. I founded freeglance.com in an effort to reduce some of the confusing and complicated parts of freelancing. The site helps companies and freelancers find each other, and also aids freelancers in finding resources that can help their careers. It's basically a freelance library.

The site is still a work in progress and has a ways to go, but I'm always looking for feedback and advice. Also, if anyone needs freelancers, I'd be happy to post their project up on the site.

Looking forward to connecting with everyone!

Hello! It's awesome to join an entrepreneur community... I'm Jordan, second year Computer Science student in the UK trying to make it easy to listen to music that we love, that inspires us and that focuses us while we work, by using music-emotion science. https://thearcadiaproject.com/emotion/

I'm here to be motivated by seeing the successes of others, and to grow mentally to become strong enough to bring great improvement to people's lives. My goal before the end of 2020 is to have a cross-platform desktop app and mobile app that reliably plays great music to people while working, with minimal friction, and to have DAU of about 5-10 people.

    1. 2

Cool idea! Now that I think about it, I often spend a lot of time going through my playlists/albums looking for the right "work mood" – sometimes I'm looking for energy and motivation, sometimes I need something quieter for concentration. Good luck!

      1. 1

Thank you for your thoughts! Exactly, the goal is to eliminate the time we spend managing work/study/focus playlists (I hated doing this myself) and to play the best music to work to (out of our library) at any given moment.

  92. 1

Hi all, I'm Colin. I'm searching for my next passion-fueled business opportunity.

I've been working in business analytics for sales and marketing for ~6 years now. It's been an effort to truly understand how to properly commercialize new products/services (and to keep my eye open for areas of opportunity).

B2B companies have been good to me, but I really want to do something B2C.

My current company, Marketing Qualified, is more of a placeholder org until I find that real passion/hobby that ignites the next business opportunity.

    To date I've failed 1 business, sold 1, and actively run 1 -- www.marketingqualified.com.

I'm also on here to make new connections/friends so follow me up or reply and let me know you're here!

    Hello everyone

Glad to be here. This is my first post.

I'm an ex-entrepreneur, having tried 2 startups so far - one was an ecommerce startup and second was a saas startup. I had been working as a product manager since last 5 years but have recently lost my job.

Now as the job market is really bad, I'm not able to find new opportunities as well. So I'm thinking of taking this situation as an opportunity and work on my dream - to create a small profitable saas business of my own one day. And hence I'm here.

As of now I'm exploring ideas and looking at apps for different platforms such as Shopify, Zoom, etc. Looking forward to connect with this community of like-minded folks :)

    Hey everyone,

I'm a product manager at a tech company in Vancouver, Canada. I have helped marketplaces and SAAS companies expand the product portfolio to grow their user base. In the past, I have started a podcast, an NGO and a few failed startups.

Currently, I'm working on a project to build an operating system for small businesses. All small businesses have various customers, vendors and prospects, this leads to every business having a CRM, b2b contact database, marketing tool and internal project management tool - but still they aren't able to provide customers with on-demand insights into their operations. This tool would help these businesses find & communicate with other businesses. I am looking to find other people who understand these pain-points and want to build solutions to help small businesses.

    Hey guys,

Prerak here (pronounce: pray-ru-k where ru as in rug) :)

Founder of theitoons.com (building a remote supply-chain system, using many socio-economic factors, for global talents to balance out the responsibility as well as economic instability globally).

Personal mission is to build a community of Spiritual Entrepreneurs (preraktrivedi.com). Finance is bit easy to manage compare to our psychology. So under this mission I am helping freelancers, professionals, managers, founders to observe their compulsive behaviour and then improve their thought patterns which in turn help them be stable-minded in any situation to take robust decisions. It is not only good for the person but the society and the globe as whole.

If anyone have a suggestion or question feel free to message me, I am available everywhere with @pntrivedy.

Hi guys, I am Rizvi from Switzerland / Zurich and the founder of Podstellar (www.podstellar.com) :) Happy to be here. I heard from a friend of mine about this platform and thought that must be a great place to be, and so here I am.

Why did I decide to join here? Of course, there is so much to learn about entrepreneurship and I love to exchange ideas and try to help others with my inputs and I believe this platform is exactly about that. My main background is in engineering with focus in biomedical engineering. I enjoy understanding problems, finding pain points and trying to solve / optimize for the better.

Approach me anytime, if you want me to look at a project of yours.

Personally, I launched two weeks ago Podstellar (for iOS for now). Podstellar is the place where you can record and share your story with the community in the easiest way possible. No expensive hardware needed, no audio editing skills needed and no worries about creating RSS feeds and distributing podcasts.

We are closing the value chain by embedding recording and publishing together with a Instagram like social media vibe into a new generation social media platform purely based on audio. The journey just got started.

Also looking forward to talking with you about Podstellar.

Maybe you are yourself even interested in sharing your entrepreneurial stories on Podstellar ;)

    Cheers

hey, everyone, I'm building a yet another platform to manage my finances and wanted to share it with others. I joined hacker news to meet like-minded people. There are not a lot of people in my life that are driven and want to create things. I listened to a couple of podcasts and felt like I belong here :)

    1. 1

100% agreed. Just joined myself last night. Great engagement so far!

      1. 1

        What are you building? :)

        1. 1

          Mostly content right now!

I've had 3 businesses to date. Failed 1, sold 1, and run 1.

The one I run is a marketing company, but it's more of a placeholder until I find that next fire-in-the-belly passion project.

The approach I'm taking is to produce content through my personal brand about different hobbies and interests of mine. I'm hoping this will reveal areas of high engagement and take me down different paths!

As topics blow up into larger groups and discussions, I'll branch them off into their own websites and brands. That's the hope anyway!

It's a bit complex, but I thoroughly enjoy writing and making content. I'm also trying to leave a door open for destiny to take me where I ought to go :)

Hey all, I’m here to see whether I can find the people who can help the world through AI. I’m not a programmer, just someone with some big ideas for fixing some problems I’ve seen in life that might be helped through clarity of information already out there, nice and organized by a big set of machines.

  128. 1

Hello 👋, I'm Anthony and from the UK. I used to be a designer for ~5 years before learning to code and working as a software developer for another 5 year. I now do contracting on the side with the goal of making a profitable product. I've followed IndieHackers for a few years and regularly listen to the podcasts. I've also been to two Dublin IndieHackers meetups which were great.

I've already tried to building a few small things, and also spent a lot of time failing to launch something so I'm currently going back to basics and trying to get something up and running quickly. I recently launched Nutrimote.com with my girlfriend which is a resource hub for nutrition professionals working remotely, and I'm also working on Brandalf.co which is a resource hub of tools for improving your brand.

I'm hoping to learn from other's stories here on IndieHackers ☺️

  129. 1

Thanks @rosiesherry for this warm welcome. I'll try to be as much active as possible and contribute to the community. I'm jumping from being an Architecte to now becoming programmer with Python and Django. I have few ideas that i would like to launch but i'm more interested about sharing experience and learning from the community. so i'm exited to be here.

Hey guys, I am not a founder yet and don't know if I will be ever. However, I have been an early employee of three successful B2B startups who have exited in the last 10 years. Now, I am planning on capitalizing on my knowledge and find partners to do so with.

Looking forward to learning and growing.

Hello all, I just stumbled across this website by chance. I'm in the process of relaunching my brand as a Urban Music Marketing Agency after completing a number of online advertising courses. Looking to learn and network as I have a technical background but always come up with ideas, concepts (not so much problems, thanks to google) that require programming or someone with more knowledge and experience than I have.

Hi there! My friend told me about this site, and I think it's awesome.
I'm a tech entrepreneur from Norway and I've started a couple of hardware startups doing manufacturing in Shenzhen.

My goals for the year is to become a better engineer, focusing on software (JS) and distributed systems, I'm working as a web consultant atm, and by the end of 2020 I want to relocate to Toronto to work for a fast-paced company, in a vibrant city.

What I'm hoping to get out of this community is to learn from the experiences of other people, share stories, get & give feedback and find other people to hack some software together with.

  138. 1

Hi everybody! I left my Product Manager job at the beginning of this year to take the entrepreneurship path. I've been involved in the no-code community as I want to build things but haven't learned how to code them myself (although I tried it many times with Python and Javascript tutorials and courses). Currently building some side-projects and looking to find a problem worth solving to commit full-time. Hope to find some inspiration and help from this community!

Hi, there! I'm a business guy who never shipped his own projects, a classic entrepreneur wannabe, who read about everything, already worked as project manager, developer, product manager, business strategist, app marketeer and right now web e-commerce marketeer.

Never made a cent from any of my projects, I even had a non-profit idea launch that tried to change the world by complaining (and bringing your complaint to action).

Right now, I'm stuck to my own problem, how to bring my ideas to side business to main business but everywhere I read, I get stuck again. It is not lack of time, cause I was unemployed for 8 months last year and didn't move forward.

So that's it, my main project now is solving this "side business stuck" problem that afflicts me and if you're reading this post, it is most likely your problem too. I believe the crowd might be the answer.

If you are interested, have some tech skills to help me, please get in touch.

Hi. I'm a bit of a IT generalist and early career public servant - really looking to do something for myself. My goal is to have a side project with active users by the end of 2020. I guess for some kind of validation? Keen to hear how and why other people are making their products with software.

  141. 1

Hello everyone, I am software developer by profession. While maintaining jobs I tried creating businesses in past, (an E-commerce and an IT agency) but could not grow them to the point where I wanted. My work till now was focused in SAAS products, digital marketing and communities.

I know if I combine my skills and ideas I can create profitable side-projects or even bigger things so here I am trying to learn how you guys do it, get motivation or possibly find a partner who would like to join me.

I do have an idea that I so badly want to work on in my free time, Hope I can find enough motivation to finish it.

I would love to join someone as a tech guy to get me into the mindset and get some practise about side-projects.

Hey, I’m Misha! I’m 48 and I’m living in Belgrade, Serbia, where I’m married with 2 kids.

23 years ago, I started my first website. 15 years ago, I founded WEBCentric, as a roof company for many of the projects I was involved in. 9 years ago, I founded Price2Spy, an online price monitoring service (SaaS), that’s currently employing 104 FTEs. And 3 years ago, I founded justLikeAPI, a review monitoring API service.

In essence, I’m the CEO of mentioned companies, but I often also act as a product owner, business analyst (all due to my technical background) and coordinator of our major sales efforts.

My primary goal in 2020 is revamping the Price2Spy website and app. Since 2015 we haven't done any major changes both on our website (https://www.price2spy.com/en/) and on our app. Some of our clients mentioned that our current website and app looks kinda old-fashioned. As we always care a great deal about our clients' feedback about our service (because listening to it helps us build a better tool!), we decided to go for the revamp. Our motto is to provide a 'better customer experience' to our clients and prospects.

However, my future goal is sustainable growth. For the last 3 years, we’ve been growing 25-30% year on year. I would like to grow at a somewhat faster pace, but I would not like that to happen at the expense of my personal life. In other words, the goal isn’t to grow fast but to grow for a very long period of time.

Happy to be here and looking forward to collaborating with you all!

    1. 1

    Hi fam,

Besart here. I have been working on a side project and found the resources here super useful! I'm building an online repository with all of the world's laboratories based on domain expertise in cutting edge science or technology (AI, 3D printing/ material, autonomous vehicles, nuclear energy, longevity, etc). Where are the future technologies being researched?

I built it because I Googled "top material science labs" and didn't really find a comprehensive list with descriptions and links - but rather dispersed one-off blogs that, while they contained good info, couldn't list all of the labs. Happy to show you the MVP.

Excited to join the page, lots of amazing people and projects here!

Hi everyone, I'm Sven, a freelance Software Engineer working for enterprises and doing business software mostly with web technologies and big databases for almost 15 years now. I enjoy also exploring new things, technologies and the indie hackers podcast of course.

Recently I relaunched a very old side project of mine that I did just after graduating from university, that is about hiding data in images (so-called steganography). The Windows version is not new, but the linux/mac command line I finished recently and I used this side project to explore and learn the awesome rust programming language and had a lot of fun doing so. You can find out more about it on https://www.stegano.org feedback is of course always welcome.

Another side project is preparing myself for creating an online teaching course. To establish eventually another revenue stream apart from the daily development work I'm doing for corporates.

I'd like to exchange thoughts with like-minded people, maybe there are other software engineers out there, that went into the direction of online teaching and want to share experiences with me.

    Cheers
    Sven
