Hi all! I'm a software developer who was making decent progress climbing the ladder, but realized that entrepreneurship is what really makes me happy. I'm currently on a note taking app that was originally built for myself. It has saved me countless hours at my day job and while building the product itself. I've been working on commercializing it the past few months.

I love talking to other entrepreneurs. As a solo founder, it really helps to share stories and help each other out with business/product strategy.

Hi Everyone, I'm Danny. I've been reading stories of many of the successful projects here and seem to be in good company.

My story can be summed up as this: after years of doing software consulting, I landed my dream job- then covid happened. Unemployed and soul-searching over the summer, I built BetterMorningReading.com to help me replace my social media habit with reading actual literature. Shipping the first version of it the night before I started my new job doing consulting again was an achievement in itself, and I wanted to avoid feeling like I hadn't at least put my idea out there. Since then I've continued work on the occasional night and weekend and hit a few milestones including making 100 books available, signing up a handful of users, and acquiring my first paying customer.

Though I don't necessarily aspire to quit my day job like some here have or aspire to, I do look forward to continuing to develop BetterMorningReading and learning and growing with everyone here.

Hello! I'm Jacob, a software engineering manager at a consumer tech company in Seattle. I've only recently discovered this community and got excited to see so many people exploring bootstrapped businesses. I've always wanted to start a business, but had assumed the VC route was the only viable one.

I've been so inspired by all the storied on here and looking to make my own in 2021. I'm going to start by building a number of similar apps all focused on writing that are mostly of the scratch-my-own-itch variety. However, a big goal of mine this year will be to give equal time to not writing code stuff that doesn't come as naturally to me (marketing, user research, etc). Looking forward to hearing more stories and making some of my own!

I know this will change - today I am a well seasoned developer with broad and deep experience both inside and consulting for a large number of organizations - and I need revenue for reasons well beyond the scope of this site or post.

This means I'm a great value to anyone who needs help now. ;)

From build and ship to code to product development, there is very little I have not done. I love helping businesses (people) grow, iterate, and get better.

For context, I have helped businesses and startups of all sizes for 20 years. Yesterday I helped 2 startups at 2 very different stages. My spouse is a freelance literary translator - Spanish/French/Italian to English/Tamil.
We both have a great love for Tamil - one of the most ancient languages which did not vanish, and is still read/written/spoken in various countries of the world.
I keep helping friends with ideas, products, to make things better etc. Have always felt, do I have it in me to launch and run something on my own?
Can I do something more in vernacular language as the language base is diverse in India, and digital penetration is increasing, want to build local lang apps to tap into the population that is left behind or forced to learn new language - mostly English.
Want to combine this with my wife's literary translation skills. And actually BUILD something.

• I think my superpower is creating premium brands and I believe in 'less but better'. I also try to mitigate downside as even if a project fails I have more portfolio work to attract the kinds of work I like to do.

The times I've been happiest in my life was when I was around friends hustling and making stuff happen. I try to look at my life as I'm the lead role in a film so I'd rather be broke than waste time doing something bland.

Hi! I was originally a hippie artist nomad but then I realised what I actually love the most is uphill mountain sports 🤙. I have traveled, photographed, and drawn many notebooks of sketches and generally created an astounding amount of content in a disorganised way, and came here to see if I can be more disciplined about it! I also write code but have only done so for work and to make silly and unfinished art projects. I grow weary of the conventional livestyles of those around me and want to see the weird ways people are earning clams in order to feed themselves while they pursue their best lives of shredding and rad creating.

We help teams share progress by automating reports on their key metrics, from any apps to Slack and other channels.

Think for instance of MRR, in #general, every day. How many users we got this week vs the same week last months; sales activity targets in a dedicated channel... and so on.

We've seen companies do this custom. It's a simple way to get everyone aligned on goals and build transparency. It creates great engagement and sticks from 3 to 100s of employee. But it's hard to maintain, tweak, add granularity when it's built on custom code.

We're working on it as a bootstrapped side project. A few companies are using it daily already, and our goal is to get our first paying customer this month.

My career spans just over 20 years going from software engineer to dev manager to product management leader. During that time I pretty much always was tinkering with an idea. Plenty of failed-stalled-quit projects along with a successful e-commerce launch and a not so successful video game launch (we shipped but didn't make back our marketing spend).

During the 2 1/2 years that followed, I took a break, focused on work, changed jobs during a pandemic.

Now that familiar startup itch has returned. Not sure where my journey will take me, but it begins again.

Hi there! I am Anders from Denmark. I'm a trained doctor (MD), looking to make an app that allows people from all over the world to get in contact with top-of-the-line medical experts to answer whatever medical questions they may have, e.g. relating to a personal medical issue, need for a second opinion, etc. The idea in the longer term is to make the service free, if advertising revenue can sustain it. In this way, even people from 3rd world countries with minumum financial support can have access to internationally renowned medical experts (who are paid from advertising revenue). The dream scenario is to enable individuals with complex health issues from countries with poor health care systems to receive treatment abroad, all supported by donations and revenue from this app.

I am looking for someone to help develop such an app, as I am technically inept.

I started contributing to open source software in 2006 and have a concept called Tina4 - This is not a Framework. Its aim is to make programming fun and to do most of the heavy lifting. I'm a bit of an old school programmer and I know a lot of developers who get stuck where they're at, scared to move forward into unknown concepts.

Tina4 is my answer to "upgrading" "old" coders into new paradigms of best practice. I have a fondness for tasting whiskey and I'm never far away from a guitar or piano as I love music.

I'm looking for people I can mentor and grow with me on my journey of building a framework which is not a framework. Tina4 may be able to help get your coding dreams realised. Currently the language is PHP and I'm looking to expand the concepts in Python and Lua. At some point I may need funding but right now I just need community to grow.

I'm looking to build a vertical community for a group of people that have a strong common interest, and I'd like to empower this community with features, such as video (recorded and live sessions), audio drop-in and community based Q&A, so that they can share and add value to each other. I have the same common interest as the community i'd like to build and have spoken to many friends who would benefit from this community. I've done the initial story boarding, identified the participants and value they derive from various actions on the community, and have developed the features required (mostly doable via off the shelf APIs) required to launch this. Currently, working on the wireframes for the website and the app. Also, I'm researching that how far I can take the product and build an MVP to launch beta with #nocode. I'm not a software engineer - my background is on the commercial side - strategic partnerships, M&A and growth. I've worked in different kind of companies (from consulting, start-up to big tech) across Asia and North America helping other entrepreneurs / businesses to either raise money or grow organically and inorganically.

I believe staying connected with the indie hackers community would give me the motivation (maybe connect with resources) that'd help me take this from an idea to having product-market fit.

Hi I'm Naman, writing from Amsterdam. I'm a game developer learning SaaS and I'm exploring ideas that I can build with limited resources. The idea of attaining financial freedom by building an online product that helps improve users' lives sounds so exciting to me.

I've been listening to podcasts, following SaaS achievers on Twitter and other communities online.

My main learning so far has been that there are 5 categories of online businesses:

1. Data businesses: Easy to build if you have access to data(or restructured form of widely available data) that isn't easily accessible e.g. AdForum(20 years video ads library)
2. Operation businesses: Tools that perform specific tasks for you. Great because you build once and sell forever e.g. Metafizzy(computationally heavy JS plugins)
3. Aesthetic businesses: Enable you to build visually appealing brand for yourself or your business with little effort e.g. SqSpace(build a b'ful website), Calendly(a b'ful professional appointment calendar) etc
4. Themed User Generated Content Businesses: These businesses rely on users to create content for them to keep other users engaged e.g. Indie Hackers, Twitter etc. General purpose UGC businesses like Twitter Facebook Youtube have all been taken, so now its about finding niche communities that need a discrete product with low noise
5. Infrastructure businesses: Help you move something to the cloud. e.g. Hostifi(move Unifi devices to the cloud), Apexminecrafthosting(Minecraft server hosting). These businesses are backend heavy and don't need a pretty UI or great visual appeal. Ugly websites and single scripts doing heavy lifting is enough

The goal is:

1. Find a category that works for you
2. Find a niche within that category that is underserved
3. Build a website for your idea and reach the community where it is engaged online
4. Get preorders or signups for the product before building it to gauge its appeal/need
5. Go from idea to product within 3 weeks, while getting feedback from early adopters
6. Profit

I've been reading comments here on IndieHackers for about a month and I thought it was time to finally make an account and contribute a little bit.  While I am new here, one thing is for certain, this is a special community. Unlike other corners of the internet where people are easily argumentative by any comment, the members here are genuinely interested in helping each other no matter how silly or contrarian a comment may be. That's pretty cool.

As IndieHackers, we have similar goals in mind, so let's work together and achieve some of them.  Looking forward to learning more from the community and sharing where I can!
