Welcome, introduce yourself! (Week of Feb 28th)

Rosie here -- the Indie Hackers community manager. Welcome! ๐Ÿ‘‹

This short guide is meant to help you get the most out of Indie Hackers.

First, introduce yourself!

Indie Hackers is a community of people helping each other build profitable businesses and side projects. The key word here is "community." Don't be shy!

For starters, take a second to introduce yourself and share your goals in the comments below. ๐Ÿ‘‡

Just say a few words about who you are, why you're here, and what you hope to accomplish or learn.

Take a moment to say hello to someone else as well!

Dive into learning.

We've interviewed hundreds of successful indie hackers. I recommend reading a few of their stories. It's a great way to get an overview of what's possible.

If you prefer audio to reading, check out the Indie Hackers Podcast Network and find a show you like.

Now is the best time to start.

There's no time like the present. Check out the "Start Here" page for a list of practical steps and articles that can help you take action.

Not only will it help you get started, but it should also introduce you to some of the best parts of the Indie Hackers community.

Good luck!

This is just the tip of the iceberg. If you're ever feeling lost or confused, post a question in the Meta group, or tag me (@rosiesherry) in any comment or post.

Don't forget to introduce yourself and say hi to someone else below! ๐Ÿค—

    Hey, Rosie Sherry

  2. 7

Hi, my name is Nilesh. My profile may be slightly off the normal crowd here. I am a qualified auditor with no background in coding looking for inspiration and support to start an online hustle. Interviews with Li Jin and Yaroslaw Bagriy on the Indiehackers Podcast motivated me to join this network and take some action. Being an immigrant to Canada myself I am working on a side hustle that would help prospective immigrants settle here better. Looking forward to interacting with fellow indiehackers!

    Hey Indie Hackers community!

  4. 5

    Hi folks!
I'm a self-taught coder, in my free time I like working on side projects (I write majority of them in Python). Inspired by some interviews with Pieter Levels, I decided to become part of indie hackers community.
    My projects:
https://pyheart.pl - Python programming language content aggregator (for Polish readers)
    https://jszafran.dev - my blog
https://whyworldsucks.com - gathering data about people problems & pains. I'd be grateful if you told me why world sucks for you and is there anything that could be done to fix it ;).

      Welcome man๐Ÿ’ช

Hey guys! I'm Paddy from the UK. I'm on the founding team at Academy.tech. We run onramp programmes for graduates going into the tech industry. I found out about Indie Hacker through reading articles about Lambda School and Get That Audience.

I want to learn best practices from this community, to ensure we are creating the best programmes we can at Academy.

I look forward to hearing and listening from the community.

    Cheers!

Hello World! I am Candice Michelle! Iโ€™m pretty new to the world of software programming, start-ups, programs etc. A few days ago, โ€˜pythonโ€™ was just a snake in a jungle, haha! Iโ€™m excited to learn and immerse myself in the world of IT.

  10. 3

Self taught coder using react/javascript and building a startup for the prosthetic industry with MERN. Been a double amputee for 24 years, trying to help out of the community with this one.

    1. 2

Very cool! I always want to spend time using 3D printing technology on adaptive and assistive devices, but I never get around to doing anything but reading about it.

      1. 2

Ah yeah, tons of the 3d printing companies have popped up. I havent actually seen anyone in real life using 3d printed devices, usually only upper extremity, but theres a bunch of companies making cosmetic covers with 3d printing as well and i do see those used.

Hi Hackers! My name is Vlad and I am Software Engineer. I've created a tech blog about the C++) Now I work on a list of real questions from real interviews. It might help people to check their knowledge and help to prepare for an interview. C++ is a very tricky language and the list covers the most of core mistakes that you may make in your day-to-day coding in C++. The link is - https://vg-blog.tech/faqt-from-interviews

    Hello, Indie Hackers!

  13. 2

Hi, my name is CC. I'm thinking of using R on search data to create data services. Anyway, I've been selling Saas in Asia for 18+ years.

Let me know if I can help, eg. market info and etc. Nice to be a part of indie hackers.

  14. 2

Hi, my name is Gosia and I joined this awesome community to learn from those who are in the same shoes as me - makers and creators of new products. We're building a new video editing tool called Piktostory ( www.piktostory.com) and we would love to get feedback on it. So if you're in video editing, social media or marketing land, we would love for you to try it and let me know what you think, what's missing, where to improve etc.
Looking forward to learning and hopefully sharing valuable knowledge here!

  15. 2

    Hey guys,

Chang's here! I'm an absolute beginner to web development. Trying to build a blog site with Nuxt.js and Strapi. Struggle to learn all these weird coding stuff. Looking forward to learning some cool ideas and projects from the community.

    1. 1

Hi Chang, I was there a couple of months ago. I would strongly recommend doing some basic html first, and then learning to use bootstrap. This is one of the steps where I struggled, so just know that while it looks complicated, it's not that bad.

      1. 1

Thanks a lot for your suggestions. I'll definitely try it.

  16. 2

Hi Rosie! Thank you for the introduction. I guess I have always been interested in being an indie hacker / bootstrapper without realizing it. I was running an events and media company for about 10 years until right before the pandemic. I have some experience in web designing, but unfortunately not in programming. My goal is to set up several small streams of side income through these projects that I'm about to embark on. Wish me luck!

    1. 1

Hi Shadowhacker, I strongly recommend checking out some of the no-code tools that are available now such as webflow. There is so much that you can do with them now, and you could definitely start a business without coding knowledge. Good luck!

  17. 2

Hi, Roland here. Long time developer. Worked on a lot of commercial products and projects for big biz, governments and telcos. Started and exited a couple of small businesses and now cruising full time with my family on a sailboat while coding my next big thing.

  18. 2

Hi everyone I'm Rudy and I'm working on my project Cryptocallback. It's a telegram bot where users can look up crypto prices. I'm here to learn how to take projects to the next level!

  19. 2

Hi am Charles, joining for some encouragement (also been inspired by SaaS success stories from this community) to advance a contact management SaaS i have been working on. Also joining to get some inspiration on tools and tech stack that may be appropriate. Been using .NET Core and Angular cos that's what am comfortable with. Looking forward to learn and gain a lot of insight from this community.

Hello All!, I am Hiral, a digital marketer. I believe in 'Never sell your product, help customer to buy your product' tagline.
I'm providing freelancing services in growth marketing, SEO, SMM, PPC, and ecom marketing.

  21. 2

Hi. I am not a coder but a hacker at heart. I have taken apart typical understandings of story creating and put it together in a new framework. Way back when the internet was new, I self-taught how to hack a webpage to make the content and looks the way I wanted. So now for me, these two worlds are coming together. Nice to meet you all! ๐Ÿ‘‹ @rosiesherry

    1. 1

      +1 to you! :)

      1. 2

        Thank you mr 8bit!

  22. 2

    Hi!

I'm a professional Java (Spring) developer, with relational DB experience, and I've also worked on the front-end with Angular 6+ (mostly). I'm here because I want to start a small side business that can hopefully become a full time occupation (that's the dream!).

I would like to learn how to better validate ideas, and how getting funding works if that is required. I'd also like to find a partner on here that has some technical chops that compliment my own to speed the process of reaching MVP stage up for ideas that we have.

Looking forward to meeting you all!

  23. 2

I am a self taught programmer and I really love to create something cool and I look forward to becoming an entrepreneur :D

  24. 2

Hackers! My name is Nick and I work in the field of education. I have no real technical experience, but I am getting into nocode. In fact, I am taking part in a nocode bootcamp. Still working on a product idea but hope to have something flushed out soon. If someone on here is familiar with Bubble, hit me up. I could use some advice or tips along the way. I look forward to networking and building real connections on here.

  25. 1

Hi Rosie and Indie Hackers! Excited to be part of this community. I am in the process of starting an email newsletter focused solely on b2b industries. After working in an information focused industry covering these types of companies for years I have noticed there is no morning newsletter focused on these "less sexy" industries. I'd love any feedback https://b2bnews4you.substack.com/ and look forward to helping any of you as much as I can.

Hi folks, my name is Robbie and I'm the founder of The Marcus Literacy Project. I'm on a mission to fight illiteracy, which we all know is a huge problem, creating massive inequality with 2 out of 3 kids being unable to read proficiently. I am building an engaging and fun video game that teaches older struggling readers how to read while also developing a love for reading. I'm a former teacher, school principal, and state education official looking to connect with folks with more technical expertise. Open to all conversations to meet new people here.

  27. 1

    Hi everyone,

I'm Joe. I'm not a programmer, but love building businesses. I started my second venture a year ago, and we're growing with good reoccurring revenue which is exciting! Here to learn and help the community.

  28. 1

Hello everyone! My name is Joao, I am a developer from Lisbon, Portugal. I have created several themes in the past and selling them, and also some other minor online products and some open source projects. Last year I made a goal to myself to get back to having some sort of product online. I have created https://www.haynet.vet/ together with my sister in 2020, this has been working but mostly dogfooding for herself, but we do have 2 clients resulting in a spectacular 40โ‚ฌ MRR ;) It works but the product doesn't seem to have achieved quite the market fit we hoped (mostly due to lack of Marketing effort on our side). This year I am refocusing and while I keep that one alive for the case if something happens I am deciding the venture into something more in my area (I am not a vet ;P ) which is Development tools and design. More on that in a future post I hope =) Happy to be part of this community

    1. 1

Super cool! How'd you get into building something for vets?

      1. 1

Hey! ;) thanks for the feedback! My sister is a vet, that's how haynet came to be

And I have also started a small startup with my college mates in my town in which we are helping small shop owners by bringing them online.

Hi, I'm John - software engineer from Indonesia but currently living in the Bay Area! Working on HukumJelas, an open-source website that's trying to make it easier for normal people to read & understand Indonesian laws!

It's slightly off-beat for IndieHackers since I'm thinking of this as a free, non-profit, open-source project, but as a part-time lurker IH has been super encouraging for someone starting small & dreaming of making something useful in a sustainable way. So here I am!

Looking forward to getting to know more of y'all! ๐Ÿ˜€

    Hey,

For last couple years I've been trying to build startups. Having hard times turning projects into businesses. Just discovered no-code tools and want to bring 'all' of my ideas to life.

I'm tired of building and then throwing projects away. From now on either I monetize things or I sell them. I think Indie Hackers is a place where I can get tons of advice and support on my journey.

    Happy to be here.

Howdy! My name's Norbert, full stack dev based in Warsaw, Poland. I work full time and do some freelance to pay off my debts (yeah, results from 2+ failed side-projects that had too big of a scope). I finally recovered and with the famous "3rd time is a charm" in my mind I started planning my new side-project which will be 100% bootstraped and expected to launch within next 3 months.

I'm here to gain and share knowledge, get some motivation & inspiration, get to know great people. Good luck & have fun!

    1. 2

Hey Norbert, unless it's a Fintech or highly regulated area 3 months work until launch doesn't seem right. At least get the beta out for closed number of users asap.

      1. 1

It's in fact in area of fintech (cost invoices approval process & accounting) so it has to have extensive security & stability tests. Another thing is that I still can't figure out my work-life balance (just finished 1,5y psychological therapy after burnout) so I don't want to rush anything and enjoy the process, especially having full-time job.

        1. 2

I get it. I just don't want you to build something that will take 3X effort to get users to sign up. Good Luck anyway, I wish you all the best.

    Hello indie hackers community!

I'm a final year student trying to build a product that me and my cofounder are SUPER excited about. I used to have an indie hackers account, but I decided to come back and make a new one.

I've been getting involved with #BuildInPublic over on twitter...the product I am building is https://nodemap.io and it is aimed at indie hackers, experts and people who have been there an done it before. The reason I am here is to

    1. Find other people like me
2)Gain help and support from the rest of the community
3)Find some people to discuss my product with

Hi! My name is Daniel Hernandez. Most of my career has been in hospitality food service. Iโ€™ve had a passion for coding since high school. Recently Iโ€™ve worked to combine my passion with my career to develop a web application for my restaurants. The result is QSRTasks.app. I donโ€™t have public access set up yet, however my 35 restaurants have been using the application to track/monitor guest feedback, on boarding, training, maintenance history and needs, staff auditing and restaurant shops.
My vision is to expand this application to other QSRs and Full Service Restaurants. Additionally I am interested in developing web applications for independent operators/franchisees.

  58. 1

Hi Rosie, thanks for having me. The startup world in general has always interested and I like to stay constantly curious, which is pretty easy when you look at how many people are creating solutions and products these days. I have a couple of business ideas that I'd like to turn into products rather than just thoughts. Will be looking forward to bouncing off some of the people I may find via indie hackers

  59. 1

Hello everyone, Jose here. Though I've heard about Indie Hackers for a while I didn't actually visit or checked the page until I came across Dru Riley's interview (which I've been sharing and talking about frantically with everyone I know ever since), that was yesterday and today I decided to give it a go and joined the community.

Right know I own a branding design studio but we are thinking about creating something that helps people find and refine their ideas before creating a company. We are living in crazy times and we need to be as focused as possible with our thinking so we want to help people achieve this kind of focus.

We don't truly know if it will be a course or a newsletter, we are just digging deep into the digital entrepreneurship world and I hope this community helps us achieve the kind of freedom we are looking for.

Anyway, I hope to be sharing more about what we want to build soon, and if anyone wants to talk about branding (that's my specialty) please feel free to DM me.

    See you all around...

    H, my name is Max.
Started my project QAProvider (https://qaprovider.com) in 2019. It is a crowdsourced testing platform.
Also I have developed 3 other testing tools from that time helping to test applications:
https://api.qaprovider.com - regression for api testing
https://eye.qaprovider.com - regression tests for ui & css changes
    https://tank.qaprovider.com - load & performance tests
Want to build a service where you can find everything for testing.
Reading profiles here of other indie hackers and learning their products gave me some interesting thoughts. I see different approaches for monetizing of what people do. Want to try some new approaches and learn more from other hackers.

Hi, my name is Atharva. I am a collage freshman. Very exited to enter the tech world, admittedly an absolute beginner, but hope to learn a lot in coming few years. I am really interested in physics and have asked few prominent scientists if it would be possible to do something that blends pure science with entrepreneurship, answers i got were incredibly practical but kind of gloomy. Anyways I hope to succeed in this pursuit one day. I hope indiehackers helps me get there.

Hi everyone! My name is Alex and I'm a consultant currently dabbling with a side project on personalized travel planning. I join the community to learn from everyone and to search for a technical partner to work on the product together and accelerate time to market for the MVP. Would love to connect if you're interested in the idea!

  66. 1

    Hi all,

Excited to join Indie Hackers after following it from the sidelines for quite a while. I have a technical background, but transitioned to marketing about 8 years ago as martech started growing rapidly and marketing became a more technical discipline. Marketing today is a great mix of creativity, technology and business.

I cofounded a company called MeritShare several years ago, which sold to TerryBerry. Now I'm working on SiteScore, which aims to track martech tool adoption across the web. Check it out if you'd like to see what martech tools are being used by some of the world's largest (and smallest) brands.

Look forward to learning from the community and helping out where I can!

Have been going through a lot of SaaS content looking to build as well, and came across an influencer who mentioned finding a co-founder here (impressed with all the people and content so far...) and suggested it....so here we are.... being non-technical, I'm working on turning my academic researched framework into a Career SaaS product, would appreciate a Developer Co-founder or CTO to embark on this wonderful journey of turning a empirically researched output into a commercial product or socially valuable proposition.....come along lets change the world TOGETHER!

I was tired of struggling and paying awful high rent because we couldnโ€™t buy a house as a result of our poor credit. I went online and I read a lot of good things about PRIVATE HACKERย  so I contacted him via his email; (privatehacker247 AT gmail DOT com). I related my credit situation to him and he promised to help me fix my credit . He deleted all the negative items and eventually raised my score to 795. We bought a new home and we are living happily ever after as a family. I strongly recommend him for your credit issues.

Hey everyone, I'm Paul. Used to be a quant and now I build social stuff. Last year I built app.matter.online and grew it to 150k MAU. Now me and my s/o are co-founding a startup together called Kuudos (getkuudos.com) to provide a CRM for the creator economy. My first startup was venture funded, and now I want to take the bootstrapped approach. Would love to meet some other builders here ( :

    1. 1

Hi Paul, I checked out the website, and there are grey bars at the sides. Are they supposed to be there?
Also, just a bit of feedback on the website, maybe the 'let's go' button would be better in a contrasting color, so that it stands out more? That might cause users to be more likely to click on it.

      1. 1

Hey thanks for the feedback! Will work on adding contrast to the button. Which device did you use when you saw the grey bars on the side?

        1. 1

I'm on a 13 inch macbook pro, but the bars are gone now!

Hello, my name is Darsh. I am a Civil engineer by profession with zero coding knowledge. I am always looking for new ideas in the technology sector. I am currently working on developing a Stock trading and investment platform for Indian community. I see a great potential in this sector, since Stock investments are gaining traction amongst the millennials. Looking forward to network with some amazing bright minded individuals on this platform to bring this idea to reality.

    1. 1

Hi Darsh, I would recommend checking out some of the no-code tools if you want to build something. It's amazing how much the sector has progressed in the last couple of months, and you can almost build anything without code now.

The premise is to create an environment in which debate is fostered, incentivized, and hosted, with the intention of elevating public discourse from its current state. If the debate occurs, then the money is donated. We'd love to get the feedback of this community as we make progress!

    Hey everyone! ๐Ÿ‘‹
My name is Igor. I'm CTO at Paralect (130 people product agency). We launch digital products in < 4 months.

I've been managing engineering teams and evolving products for more than 8 years. I've been adopting more no-code technologies in recent years to move quicker with product hypothesis validation and features MVP implementation.

I'm excited about building in public and what other makers are creating โ€” that brought me here. I'm looking for the ways to share my knowledge and help other makers create and grow their apps.

Reach out to me if you need some help with Node.js, React, react-native, MongoDB, PostgreSQL; APIs integration, any Architectural or Tech advice. I was growing products from zero to multi-million MRR so I know how to build a good scalable architecture on modern technologies.

More about me and why I'm eager to do advising for free here ๐Ÿ‘‰ igor.paralect.com

  134. 1

Hi everyone! I'm Hwei, working for an early-stage San Diego start-up focused on helping developers code securely. Weโ€™ve built an API-based solution to help developers encrypt data on their applications and manage their keys โ€“ removing the complexity that traditionally comes with anything encryption related. We have a free tier that you might find really useful if youโ€™re working on a project that requires data to be secured. Check it out here: https://dev.ubiqsecurity.com/docs (we welcome feedback and ideas on how we can improve our UX, so please share!) Look forward to connecting with fellow indiehackers in this community!

Hi, My name is Felipe - I've been working for over 3 years trying to create a travel-tech company but I have no knowledge of tech. I've worked in the travel and tourism industry for over 13 years and have finally launched and completely bootstrapped MVP. I'm hoping to find someone that can become my tech co-founder and so disrupt the neglected distribution of tours and activities which is completely monopolized while supporting the growth of the LATAM market and make it more accessible for all the world

    Hi everyone,

I am wiknwo. I am just an individual like you all, trying to make the world a better place. I would like to learn a lot from the community and hopefully be able to give something back. Teams share the costs and multiply the benefits.

    Hey fellow Indie Hackers!
Over the past year I have been developing an iOS app, and it is very close to being done. I'm two months away from finally graduating from my undergraduate degree. After graduating, my ultimate goal is to turn the iOS app I built into a scalable business. That way I never have to work for a boss I don't like- from the very beginning!

    Hi all! ๐Ÿ‘‹

I'm the founder of Fission, a fast app publishing platform. We're more yes code than no code, but include all the tools that a front end dev needs to build, host, and share an app, and to build a microsaas around it.

I've personally got a long history working with open source, and thinking about how to get open source developers paid, so very interested in emerging non-commercial licenses and lots of digital creator platforms that help with payment, membership, sponsorship, and donations. I'm a fan of Open Collective, but checking out lots of others.

    Hello world!
I'm a product owner in a deep tech startup in London working in semiconductor manufacturing and optimisation.

The reason I'm here is to learn from other people who managed to create cool side projects.

At the moment I'm working on a Twitter project aimed at showing interesting connections between ideas, and introducing people to a wide range of concepts they might not know about.

It's called Logical Thread - https://twitter.com/LogicalThread, and it's helping me build a second brain!

Look forward to meeting like minded people here!

    Seb

Hello!! My name is Alfred. I am a senior freelance developer with Node.js stack and specialist in decoupled services and API development. I am now in full development of my first web service, a platform related to podcasting whose development I will explain in IndieHackers.
I hope to learn from the great members of this web and be able to provide help to whoever needs it.

Hey all. My name is Jonathan https://twitter.com/Jonathan_Clegg8 and I run what I would call a 'curative substack' in a very specific niche. My background is in biology and by day i'm a web developer. I started a substack as I wanted to start a side project that fit my interests that i could see an opportunity in but wasn't necessarily writing heavy or coding so i could learn new skills. Anyway my substack is https://ecologyseminars.substack.com/. I curate all of the upcoming societal conferences and ecology related seminars into two weekly emails which consists of a lot of Twitter scrolling and bookmarking. Anyway I started in June of 2020 and at the moment the Substack has around 3700 subscribers. Looking forward to interacting with other indiehackers in here and learning the tips and tricks you folks have picked up!

I'm Mess. I have a Fab Lab in Dallas, TX, USA. Most all of my time right now is spent teaching 3D printing workflow and building awareness around jobs in additive manufacturing. I also love teaching kids and beginners the basics of electronics.

Can you share some tips when it comes finding new customers for your fab lab? I got a bunch of 3d printers here but not enough jobs to run on them...

Salam hackers, I'm in desperate need for your free advice/ consultation. I'm looking to launch an app that I believe it will solve a big problem in the MENA region. I've been talking to dev shops. but i don't have a tech background, I'm an architect. so they have been sending me these proposals that will cost my life savings. and I'm happy to pay. i just wanna make sure I'm on the right track here. I'd love for someone to take a look at the proposal and take 30 mins of their time to ask few questions as i don't have tech friends! hope to hear from someone soon!
