Welcome, introduce yourself! (Week of Jul 12th)

Rosie here -- the Indie Hackers community manager. Welcome! 👋

This short guide is meant to help you get the most out of Indie Hackers.

First, introduce yourself!

Indie Hackers is a community of people helping each other build profitable businesses and side projects. The key word here is "community." Don't be shy!

For starters, take a second to introduce yourself and share your goals in the comments below. 👇

Just say a few words about who you are, why you're here, and what you hope to accomplish or learn in 2020.

Take a moment to say hello to someone else as well!

Dive into learning.

We've interviewed hundreds of successful indie hackers. I recommend reading a few of their stories. It's a great way to get an overview of what's possible.

@csallen also puts out podcast episodes if reading isn't your thing!

Next, get started!

There's no time like the present. Check out the "Start Here" page for a list of practical steps and articles that can help you take action.

Not only will it help you get started, but it should also introduce you to some of the best parts of the Indie Hackers community.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! If you're ever feeling lost or confused, post in the Meta group or tag me (@rosiesherry) in any comment or post.

Don't forget to introduce yourself and say hi to someone else below! 🤗

Hi, I'm Nishant. 18, based in UK. My goal is to earn 10K/month with indie hacking. That will suffice my needs and then I'll do what makes me happy.

I just found out about indie hacking last month. I haven't built anything useful or functional yet but I plan on doing so this summer.

Once my A levels finish on the 20th of June,

    1. I will start to do market research and find a validated problem to solve.
    2. I will then learn the coding languages I need to build a solution for that problem so that I don't learn any skills I don't need. (I will use roadmapdotsh to map out what to learn and use scrimbadotcom to learn the coding skills for free)

Lastly, I have made a subreddit for Young Indie Hackers. If you want to join it, search "Young Indie Hackers" on Reddit and go to communities to find the first result.

Hi I’m daizy an ex law student and startup program manager at a university in Melbourne. I’m here to focus on my side hustles - writing, podcasting and other creative projects. I recently created a Now page on my website inspired by Derek Sivers. https://daizymaan.com/now/ Though in summary right now the projects related to this space and keeping myself accountable are

    1. 🃏 Fitteh Muh – a fun card game in Punjabi for diaspora kids across the globe
    2. The Daizy Project – Podcast interviewing mostly South Asian female leaders, change makers and entrepreneurs about their journey and what it means to live a meaningful life.
    3. 📕 Writing a memoir. Turns out in all of Australian history only 4 Indian/Australian women have ever written a memoir. Thought I’d make that 5. This has been an ongoing project for a few years, I was crippled with self-doubt so I stopped but am back onto it with a renewed sense of optimism about sharing my story growing up as a rebellious brown girl with strict Indian parents.
    4. 🎥 Learning how to edit videos by making videos on Youtube (and having to edit them in the process)
I can’t wait to keep and be kept accountable to these side projects 👊🏽
    1. 1

Hey daizy! Soo many interesting projects, thanks for sharing!

    2. 1

      Hi Daizy!
On your website, your book section says, "Sign up below to receive a free sample prior to the launch."
But I still don't know where it is "below".😞
I like to read very much and it would be interesting to read your book when it is ready. 😌
P.S. You have a perfect site!

      1. 1

Ah thank you so much I must have accidentally got rid of the sign up box! Onto it :)

    3. 1

I liked to hear the new perspectives in your podcast. I'm completely newb to Punjabi artists so cool to hear about some music and poetry.

      1. 1

Hey thanks! You must have come across the Punjabi Songs Explained podcast - that's another one I started just for fun and am going to continue. Surprisingly the first episode got about 1k listeners when I thought nobody was interested and have really minimal ways of promoting. It does a lot better than my other podcast interviewing interesting folks, I guess people love comedy and it's super niche

👋 Hey, I'm George from the south coast of the UK 🇬🇧.

I'm a full stack developer, mainly working in the Laravel (PHP) ecosystem. I've got 10 years experience of agency work - and have spent the last 5-6 years of that leading the development of web applications for established businesses and start-ups. I've built several side projects of my own too (most recently a multi-location uptime monitoring service), but don't have enough skills in the marketing / business side of things to launch.

Away from coding, I love to travel, eat, cycle and just generally spend time outdoors.

I'm hoping to find a project I can get stuck into and turn into a success - preferably something related to travel / the great outdoors / food / education - but am open to hearing about any opportunities. I can bring development and technology skills - if someone (or a small group) else can bring some graphic design / marketing / business experience.

I have a small, infrequently updated blog if you want to know more about me; https://www.georgebuckingham.com

    1. 2

Hello George nice to meet you. Many moons ago I was a zen certified PHP developer I'd never even heard of Laravel, I'm sure it's come a long way. Agencies give you so much experience from so many angles deep within the problems.

      1. 2

Hey Kevin! I think PHP has changed massively, even in the past 7/8 years - it's light years ahead of where it used to be, and with PHP 8 not far away, I think the future looks bright! Yep, you're right about agencies, I've worked on projects for small and large businesses in a range of industries, so its certainly been great for learning!

        1. 1

Lest we not forget that Facebook and many of the world's biggest companies were built on top of PHP. It's an unsung hero.

    2. 1

hey George, nice to e-meet you. I'm in Education (mindsetandmaths.com) and looking to transition from selling my time to selling a product..i have loads of ideas if you'd like to brainstorm some time!

    3. 1

Hey George, nice to meet you. I'd love to connect - I started a travel business last year and have been teaching myself some basic tools to build out the website and app.

    4. 1

Hi George. I'm a longtime marketing pro, writer, business coach and outdoor adventurer. Wanted to introduce myself. Just here exploring as a new member of the community. You seem like an intelligent, creative guy! ~Maia

  4. 4

    Hi,

I am Iulian, 22 years old (soon on 15th July) and I joined indiehackers to give it a try for materializing the growth of my company.
My goals: growing my network, getting new customers, validating my product, find new team members

How I am going to achieve them: being social with the community of indiehackers, identify people who will need my product and match my ideal customer, kindly ask for tech enthusiasts to try out my product.

What my product is about: https://www.dwebox.com/how-it-works/
    My LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/iulian-cristian-ivighenie-88370a164/

Good luck to all the entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts for whatever reasons you are on this website.

    1. 1

Hi Lulian, Dwebox is a good little idea which might really help organise some messy inboxes! Great to meet you.

      1. 1

        Hi Kevin,

I am Iulian ("youleean") but don't worry, it's a common mistake. I saw you are from City of London which can only remind me some of the greatest memories I have when I lived there. The atmosphere, architecture and the people are just amazing.

If you are really ready to level up your email experience, you can always try Dwebox for free.

I welcome you to indiehackers & wish you good luck in achieving your goals.

    Hi, everybody, I'm Max.
By education, I'm a programmer. At the moment I am mainly engaged in web development.

My goals are quite standard and banal:

    • To launch my project (web service for athletes and their coaches) with my team.
    • Learn English and write a book in English
    • Promote a personal brand (but these are just dreams).

Always happy to communicate and ready to help as I can.

    1. 2

Not banal at all Max, dreams can be a future known only to you, your competitive advantage is those dreams :) Nice to meet you.

    2. 1

Hey Max! Dreams and goals are super important, and in my opinion yours seem super tangible if you just manage to stay focused and not diverge or stop on the first hickup. Good luck with it! ☺️

    3. 1

Defs not banal! Someone recently said to me that "You keep underestimating what you know and overestimating what everyone else knows" - it was in response to me undermining myself. So I'm going to say the same thing to you, you're well ahead with these goals to begin with and by being part of this IH community you'll go places :)

  6. 3

Hi, I'm Rich - a product/growth/commercial founder here in lovely Sydney. I've been reading content from IH for a long while, and thought I should join and get properly involved! Really looking forward to engaging with the community - throwing ideas around, sharing my experience and seeing what I can learn. I'm particularly interested in business ideas and consumer/SME painpoints, and love building MVPs and getting them out there!

  7. 3

Hi there, I'm Alex - from the start-up health app 'Epsy' https://www.epsyhealth.com/. Epsy is more than just an app, we are a community for people with epilepsy. Our mission is to make every day with epilepsy brighter than the last. Our features includes logging for seizures / auras/ side effects, medication reminders and set-up, regular content, integration with Google Fit / Apple Health and personalized insights and trends.

    1. 1

Hi Alex, many years ago I was at a party and one of my friends had a seizure which was really scary. Thank you for casting a life line to the many who will have to live with the fear of suffering from those scary moments. Considering the comfort you might offer, every single user of your app is an incredible gift.

      1. 2

Hi Kevin, thank you for the kind response! I can imagine seeing your friend go through that must've been hard - it's recommended to tell your friends or family what to do in case you have any seizures. At Epsy we really want to help all of our users find a better path to understanding and managing their epilepsy.

Hey, I am awed by the onboarding process. My name is Mudit Kothari and I head a startup. I am here to open up my mind and in search of ideas, connections, etc. that can help me and my start up go to the next level.

    1. 1

Nice to meet you! What does the next level mean to you?

    2. 1

Hi Mudit, yeah I thought th e onboarding was pretty slick as well. I'm quite looking forward to the newsletters which is unique in itself! Whats your startup?

      1. 1

Hey I am working on an operations management system called DigiTask. What about you?

        1. 1

I'm in the process of building a suite of tools to facilitate Art tours. Very early days just trying to get a basic end to end together in the first month.

  9. 3

Hi I'm Graham, I am a Junior in high school and I am a developer. I have developed a Chrome Extension called OneLine that combats dyslexia online (https://useoneline.com). I want to learn more about code, developing, myself, and business. I am interested in starting my own company, so I am excited to read about other people's experiences

    1. 2

Oneline is a really useful project I'm sure will help a lot of folks. You should feel really proud Graham, nice to meet you.

      1. 1

Thank you! I marketed it on TikTok and managed to go viral a few times, it was received very well! Nice to meet you.

    2. 1

That's so cool! Well done to you for working on something so meaningful.

  10. 3

Hi I'm Hugo, 30 years old. I like to build software and tinker with open source projects. I've recently been let go from my consulting position so I'm looking for inspiration on something that could generate a side-income on IH :)
So far I've found @tomketch 's article to be very useful for anyone thinking of money management: https://curvo.eu/en-gb/im-thinking-about-buying-a-house-but-im-also-interested-in-investing-in-index-funds-whats-the-best-return-on-investment?fbclid=IwAR2aCAvUjBhKQL6wb2d0t-uXj3mfBOkFn9M0gnIF6H1oy5wYH7gau-vep3s
    Cheers from Portugal

    1. 2

Thanks for the article Hugo, I did a similar rundown of the investment opportunity fo buying a house as opposed to index funds. While I concur that this is likely true (I'm not sure of the effect of the coming depression though) there is another factor which won me over. I'm not sure if you have a partner but I have a wife who has always dreamed of owning her own home. Outside the dollars and cents and cold hard facts we all have feels. Regardless of how much I would justify alternative investments something always seemed to not sit as right in paying ever more amounts of rents while sitting money in someone else's fund. I ended up investing in a mortgage and I'm glad I did. A few years later there is a sense of deep fulfilment and calm that I share in with my wife which is worth sacrificing a potential gain of 200k. Every month we can look at a chart of how much we've paid off our house, how much we've worked together. It's just much more satisfying than stressing over a fund's eventual % gains.

    2. 1

Thanks for sharing our blog Hugo and we've answered a bunch of finance and investment questions over at https://curvo.eu/learn

Good luck with your side project. Do share updates on IH of your journey :)

  11. 3

Hi, I am a Product Head with 15 years of experience in building multi million dollar products. I am working to make a product (digital + physical) so that I can make kids Creators instead of Consumers.

    1. 1

Hi avighnam, you are thinking more the act of creating as in art or other content? Or rather kids creating products and services (ie entrepreneurship)?

      1. 1

First I am targeting 3-6 years which is more about putting seeds of entrepreneurship via Life Skills Training (refining communication, story creation, story narration, taking initiative, controlling emotions, Looking For Solution, First Aid, Good Touch / Bad Touch etc.).

We started class about 1.5 years back and have seen overwhelming response in confidence and personality development of kids along with life skills. Now we are digitalizing it to make it super easy for parents to get same results.

        1. 1

Sounds fantastic. I have a twelve yr old and my challenge is to move him away from the all so exciting content thats available online to consume. Whereas he could spend his time and focus on creating something. He wants to be a youtuber and make money so I figured an entrepreneurship challenge would be awasome. Create something, promote it and potentially make money in the process. So many things he could learn in the process. The challenge is getting his attention and enthusiasm.

          1. 1

Yes I can understand. My daughter is 4 years and I know all school and college education will not be helping her when she turns 20 for her financial freedom.

So I am preparing her starting now ..

    2. 1

A noble aim, nice to meet you!

      1. 2

Thank You!! Your name tells me we will be interacting a lot ... cause story telling is the way we are changing things for kids!

  12. 2

Hey y'all, I'm a full-stack coder very much looking forward to this community. I'd love to be an indie hacker someday and life may be presenting that opportunity soon!

    1. Validate the need for a distributed, peer-to-peer blogging tool
I often want to write short essays to my friends and be sure that the essays don't go anywhere beyond my friends' machines. Could I write an essay in markdown, save it, tag certain people in my network, and have a pdf show up on their machine. They could then comment on it (to me or to the group who also received it) to start a conversation.

    2. Explore ML: I may have an opportunity to do some ML in the future, but I'd need to level up my skills considerably. More concretely, I'd like to finish a recent 123 hour course that I found on ML, doing so by 12/31/2020.

    3. Participate in a learning community about AI ethics and theory. I have no idea what this looks like, but I'd like to start chatting with others interested in this area (through writing, forums, meetups).

    Glad to be here!

  13. 2

Hey there 👋I'm a product manager working in the Augmented Reality space. My goal is to leave the world a better place than I entered it. Some of the projects I'm workin on are

    1. 📹YouTube videos on my journey following Disciplined Entrepreneurship: 24 Steps to a Successful Startup
    2. 👨🏻‍💻Personal Website with a newsletter on AR
    3. 🤔Most recently thinking about a volunteering service. After I starting thinking...Why can you order food with a press of button but not volunteer?

Looking forward to connecting with more people in the indie hacker community!

    1. 2

I'd love to find a way to volunteer easily...and actually have my teens volunteer for things.

      1. 1

Interesting! Whats getting in the way of you and your teens volunteering?

  14. 2

Hi Rosie Sherry. Thank you for the community!

  15. 2

Hi! 'm Sonja and this community was recommended to me! Excited to be here, will poke around and check things out. Any tips or encouragement is welcome, I feel like the new kid in class.

    1. 2

      Welcome aboard!

      What are you working on?

  16. 2

I work at Stone Peak Private Equity. We acquire, merge, carve-out, grow, and sell companies. But I'm here to learn from a great community of creators. Feel free to reach out on any ideas, networking, etc.

Hi, my name is Todor and I am full-time developer/builder. I love coding and creating problems that need solving :D. I am currently focused on my side project https://outmuscle.me, it's a platform that allows you to create physical challenges. From time to time I drop a few lines in my personal blog - https://tagrudev.com. I am happy to be part of indie hackers community!!

  18. 2

This is Chew, I'm a co-founder of Ricemill, an order fulfilment software designed for Australia's online retailers. Looking forward to learning from the community.

    1. 2

Hi Chew, really impressed with the amount of integrations you've added to Ricemill! 20 years ago I also developed some CRUD software for a packaging company and so I can imagine your customers and feel your pain :) Well done on Ricemill.

    Hello everyone,

I am building a platform to help 10 people find a job. everyday.

I saw that many people have lost their job due to the current economic situation and I have seen many people posting status and updates on Twitter, Reddit and LinkedIn about their job search struggle.

I have been thinking very hard on how I can possibly help them find a job.

So I thought of building a platform where profiles of few randomly selected job seekers (2-10) is featured daily to help them find the job quickly.

My mission is to help 3000+ people find a job in 2020.

    Here's the link. https://www.jobroz.com.

    1. 1

Love that curated approach to job seeking. That's a really nice twist.

    Hi everyone
My names Kayla and I wrote my first book called Surviving a Narcissist.
Im still learning how to write creative and engaging content. My first book was basically my diary, but I thought my experience would help others.

Im hoping to learn more about writing books, marketing and selling.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Surviving-Narcissist-epidemic-before-pandemic-ebook/dp/B08763RSZG/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=kayla+Davies&qid=1594547468&sr=8-1

    1. 1

Well done Kayla, writing a book is such an achievement, one to which I aspire! Just the whole process must have been a great learning curve. My very favourite social network is goodreads I can't recommend it enough for finding inspiring books.

    2. 1

Hey Kayla I’m working on my first book at the moment, looking forward to following your journey here :)

Hello! I'm a front end developer and product manager, recently let go. I have an app in the works and a couple ideas for turning it into a business. I really want to start a business from scratch after working for plenty of businesses that are in strategically bad places because of financing, HR, or product decisions. I also think starting a business is a better investment than the stock market or real estate.

I'm also a dad, with two kids, which is kind of my original start up. I always wondered why "7 habits of highly effective people" was written in the correct of parenthood. Now it all makes sense.

I hope to give more to this community than I take. As I have been lurking for a while, I am already behind.

    1. 1

Hi! What kind of app are you building?

      1. 1

A CRM for the food industry. It started as a bare bones delivery app. I'm trying to add some polish to the delivery app,let people use it for free, then add on paid CRM features using the data the deliveries generate.

  22. 2

hello all I am Akinsola and happy to be here, I have been surfing IH before I decided to join because the inspiration and community is great. Hi @DannyPostma, @lynnetye I couldn't have joined without your inspirational content . I have products that didn't perform well and some that never gave me any revenue and I believe I could change all of that learning from this community.

    1. 1

Great to meet you Akinsola, we are all in the same boat. It's hard to admit that lack of successful traction but at the same time you are self aware to it, which is a really hard skill to gain.

  23. 1

Heyo 👋🏾 Odie from London here!

I finished my machine learning PhD and have been working in the AI industry for a year now. I want to start a "successful" company and feel like I've gained a lot of knowledge and skills from my CS undergrad and ML PhD but am definitely a bit weak on the startup knowledge side.

I'm hoping to gain some inspiration and learn about the startup world and what it takes to make one work. Im always working on something and have a number of side projects out. My goals are:
    (a) To learn more about how startups work. (Vague i know, but i'm really not very clued up on this!)
    (b) To maximise the potential of my existing side projects.
    (c) To meet and get to know the amazing people in the IH community.
    (d) To build and launch a new product with all of my new learnings.

I can't wait to meet all you interesting people!

I will update this link to the post link when I publish it.

I am here to build a network and get motivated and inspired.

Hi, I'm Juan Miguel from Spain 🇪🇸.

I have been designing and developing web applications for more than 20 years in my own agency (www.existo.es).

A Hera ago we decided to migrate to JAMStack. We started doing some tests developing a couple of simple projects. At the end, we have updated all our development tools and workflows to adapt them to this new stack.

One of the main obstacles we encountered in this process of migration to JAMStack was content management. After analyzing the options available in the market, we decided to develop our own headless CMS.

In the last 7 months we have managed to develop a powerful tool that allows you to develop a graphql-based backend and a content manager without a single line of code.

We have unknowingly developed a product.

Our idea is to open a public beta after the summer, get feedback and study the option of marketing it as a SaaS.

We have no experience in developing and marketing SaaS products and I think Indie Hackers is an ideal community to get help and learn.

    Hugs

Hi Rosie and everyone here, I'm Nguyen, from Vietnam. I'm an AI engineer (mainly working with Python) with only 1 year of experience. I've just found this community and I'm really excited to be a part of it! :D For now, I really want to take part in a side project so that I can build up not only my skills in techniques but also my mindset in business. ;) Currently, I have nothing to show up. But I believe, maybe in the future, I and some Indie Hackers will create something cool together? ^^

Hey Indie Hackers! I'm an educator and content writer. My main side project is a Substack newsletter at www.ScriptureSauce.com.

I am turning to a community of awesome people for help: I want to eventually have tiered membership, my own domain (not a redirect), and more control over my site without busting the bank (I am not making revenue with my writing yet). I am leaning towards either Ghost (hosted with GetMidnight.com) or sticking with WordPress at SiteGround.

I plan to tour the awesome things you all have on here and hopefully glean some wisdom.

    Glad to be here! :-D

    Hey this is Chen. I'm a quitter 🛑 and a builder 🛠.
In 2010, I quit my PhD program 🎓, and joined Apple 🍎, to build Apple Store App from scratch.
In 2018, I quit Instagram, and dived into the startup world, to build more ground-breaking apps and services for people and business. Since then, I built a few very popular apps on the App Store, made into App Store top 50 in Education & H&F categories.
My latest focus is https://www.myfancyapp.com/, a privacy policy generator & landing page builder for mobile app developers. My goal is to serve 1000 app developers in 2020, so that they can be more focused on building awesome apps, and leave the boring website hosting work to my website. Let me know if any questions or feedbacks!

👋 Hi I'm Nehal. I'm a web+mobile developer based in Vancouver, and I'm building a personal learning management system called Newt. It's an app that I've always wanted; something that lets me organize stuff that I wish to learn – whether it’s a book, YouTube video series, or online course – track my progress, and take short quizzes combined with spaced-repetition to improve retention (think like Khan Academy but for any content).

    Check out my super-minimalist website (truly a work-in-progress 😭): https://www.newtlearning.com/

I've built an MVP mobile app and I'm looking to start a small private beta with just a few people so I can get feedback on the idea/execution. I honestly wish I joined Indie Hackers earlier because this community looks awesome, but better late than never I guess 🤷‍♂️. If you'd like to see it in action, I post screenshots/screen recordings of it on the Newt twitter handle!

Thanks for reading! I can't wait to check out all the incredible projects/businesses being built by everyone on here!

Hi! I'm Ben, and I've been excited about the IndieHackers community for a while. I'm definitely an "indie hacker" myself – I've been chipping away at side projects for a while, and hoping to launch one that finds traction. My wife's starting to hate me for spending all Saturday working on a project after spending all week on my day job 😅

After building a signup and login flow for like the 10th time on my last project, I decided "enough is enough", and decided to build a simpler login service: https://login.land

I thought this might appeal to folks here – it's free (until you accept payments, where I charge a small fee on successful transactions).

Hello! My name is Scott. I've been in the tech industry for 15+ years working in a variety of developer/manager/architect roles. I'm currently working on building a robo-advisor for early retirement called Bonfire Planner: https://bonfireplan.com

    Hey I'm Gustav.

I am a full time software developer from Sweden. I like lifting, spending time with my family and playing the "car soccer", aka. Rocket Leauge (it's a video game).

I am hoping to be inspired by you guys, so that by the end of 2020 I will have come up with a project idea and built an MVP by the end of 2020.

Hello, I'm Raghav and I like to code!

Hi! I'm a full stack developer and I'm working on my side project: app.backirs.com. Its a place for content creators to monetise their work and allow supporters to invest in them.
My current goal is to validate this business model, grow my audiences and gather ideas. Let me know your thoughts!

    Hello hello 👋

My name is Chris and I'm working on Mogul (https://mogulnetworking.com), a personal network management app (oh yes, another personal CRM haha).

I've been a long time reader of IH but finally decided to take some initiative and sign up, happy to be a part of the community now.

I'm hoping that by surrounding myself with other makers I will learn a lot about what it takes to build a great product (and grow it).

Happy to finally be here! Feel free to reach out about anything, always happy to chat with other makers.

Hi, I'm Leo, long-time IH lurker and full-stack dev (MERN) out of Cambridge, MA. I'm commit to building this vocabulary building app for picking up a new [human] language.

I'm slowly learning that I need to be more open about what I'm doing with a relevant community, and also to increase the stakes a bit. Most of my friends and family have no idea about coding and developing apps and aren't super interested, so I figured it's time to be serious and actually join this community to continue to learn and grow together.

Hope everyone else is having an excellent Friday.

    Cheers!

    Hello creators and makers!

I'm an Italian astronomy and space popularizer, a Google Product Expert, and a podcaster.

I work in astronomy and space outreach and education. These are also my interests and passions along with Google and its ecosystem, digital and self publishing, blogging, Python, and more.

I have a blog and a newsletter, and wrote a few traditionally and self-published books on some of these topics. I'm experimenting with making some money off the content I produce and the side projects it enables.

I'm here to learn from your experience and share mine. This year I hope to grow my newsletter, and hopefully my other projects as the tide lifts all boats.

Hi everyone. This is Burak here, I have been working in a growing start-up for many years now and within the company, we decided to create a spin-off with a small product team, it started as a side project but now it became like an incubated start-up within a larger start-up and I am heading the product management effort.

The product is in open beta at https://appcircle.io

Now it's time to grow so I am here to learn it from the masters and also gather feedback.

    Hey there!
I am Umang. I came to know about IndiHackers from one of the posts from Medium.com. I am doing door business actually but I always had interested in making and running apps and websites. Actually I made some apps in past and also put out them publicly but it was just my hobby. In this very time, I want to tell you guys something that I may never told anybody till now. I had kind of depression in the past. Suffered a lot and all that stuff, some of you know how that feels like. Now, the thing is I am fond of reading books, mainly non-fiction types. I love to read. And the point is, at that time I keep reading books and some of them actually help me a lot. I read books and some paragraphs and lines are actually touch me. I can't express it in word but that feeling when you come out from sad days to beautiful energetic days are blessings. I capture photos of book pages or sometimes few lines thinking that when again such time comes in the future, I would repeat this read. Long story short, I thought to make a platform for reading and sharing. Actually I was thinking that I want to make something that anyone who is feeling low can open the app and literally come out from that(Maybe for the time that they read). One very obvious thing I realized is what we consume whether it is a book, reading, words, songs, vid, or any content- is affects us in the way we are facing or feeling at that same moment. So I am making a social media type platforms where people can share their read and it could make helped someone.

My English as powerful as your Mandarin ;) so pardon me if the upper text is not able to explain clearly.

Sorry for lengthy writing but I felt good after writing what I unsaid till now.

Hi, I'm Matt from Sydney, Australia

I'm a professional software engineer. About 6 months ago I decided to dedicate the entire 2020 to build and do whatever I always wanted to do but couldn't due to lack of time so I quit my job, joint a big corporation for a 9-5 job and spending pretty much most of my free time building my Saas product in no code world! The product is still under development but hopefully will be ready for launch later this year!

Nice to meet you all, albeit digitally :)

Hi! I'm Spriha Tucker :) I'm building a tool called CommandCamp - it's basically a way for technical people to let non-technical people to run common tasks themselves (run a simple DB query, or run a quick API call etc).

Wanted to join IndiHackers for feedback, tips and support along my journey. I just started on this a week ago and literally JUST put up a 3min video on loom to demo an early version: https://www.loom.com/share/19ae7a0df1564d8fadd618de70a0b4a3

I'd love your thoughts and feedback!

Hi, I'm Eddy. An electrical engineer turned software engineer. I left my electrical engineering job in 2017 to pursue a career in entrepreneurship. I had no idea what I was going to do at the time, and in some ways, I still don't. However, since I quit, I have tried several things from eCommerce to social media marketing, which I currently do now. I own an agency - we help businesses improve their bottom line by creating unique digital experiences. In short, we mainly build apps and websites for our clients, and we also provide marketing services. The business is going well, but recently, we got fired by a client that we literally helped save 6 figures on an app we developed by reducing our rates because we saw their vision and were promised to be part of that vision and we also wanted to be part of that vision. Sadly things didn't work out that way as in the end, the client still thought our prices for maintenance was too high and decided to let us go by transitioning to an "in-house" team.

This led me to a realization: I have been coding since I was 10. I used to make apps for mobile using WAP (as early as WAP), but I have never built a software product of my own and tried to market it. I want that to change. I can't keep building apps for everyone else. I want to create something truly impactful that I can be proud of.

I am the Co-Founder & Head of Growth of Cash Coach, which is a gamified savings app designed to help individuals create wealth. My personal mission is close the wealth divide with plain English education on the complex world of finance. Our app uses AI to give our users data-driven advice and daily motivation to help reach their financial goals.

We aimed to raise 250k of funding in the first round and somehow managed to raise over 280k! We are now looking for first adopters to test our product and give us honest feedback so we can make the necessary improvements. Here is a link to our website in case anyone is interested: https://cashcoach.io/

Away from the turbulent life of a start-up tech company, I trade futures as a side hustle. I am married with three beautiful children AND I have a passion for Formula 1 racing.

One thing I always try to do is bring value to my communities. I have over 18 years of marketing/business experience - so if anyone would like to pick my brains, please feel free to reach out!

👋 I'm Amy from New York, founder of Folio Travel. I'm here to offer free trip planning services and get feedback from beta users.

In my previous life, I was a data science consultant who traveled a ton, but hated how long it took to plan each trip. I've since taught myself how to make websites and apps to build out Folio's beta product and save people from "planning paralysis." Folio save people days of travel planning by making a tailored travel guide for their trip. They take a short survey, and we pick restaurants, hotels, and things to do that match their tastes, using a combination of AI and human travel expertise. Some other fun facts:

    • Always up-to-date info on what's reopening now
    • Takes just 5 minutes to fill out the fun survey
    • Guides for select areas (driving distance from NY, LA, and SF) are ready in less than 24 hours

Would love some feedback for the website and messaging: https://getaway.foliotravel.com

And if you want a free guide, just let me know and I'll send you a promo code!

Hi, I am Thomas. Excited to be here!

I work as a full-time software architect. Last year I started to blog in my free time at https://tkainrad.dev. The blog has been a huge motivation for me to further explorer independent hacking opportunities.

This year, I went one step further and launched my first side-project! Thanks to social distancing, I had quite a bit of time to work on it: https://keycombiner.com

It is a web application to organize and learn keyboard shortcuts. I am very excited about it, I believe it can do a lot of unique things and I am using it myself extensively. However, I have some trouble with user onboarding. A lot of people seem to misunderstand what KeyCombiner is trying to do. Hoping to get some feedback here and to learn from more experienced Indie Hackers!

    Hi everyone, Im Alex.

I have been doing full-stack development in dotnet for around 10 years, and I felt like I needed a change. Frustrated by some of the inefficiency and incomprehensible waste in my industry, I was inspired to join forces with an old colleague and form Leansquad to see if we could tackle some of these intractable problems. We have been working on our product for the best part of 18 months now, and have been dogfooding our own sites plus working with a customer. We have finally got to a point where we can actually deliver on our initial promise, although, as I am learning fast, the work is really just beginning.

Its been an interesting journey so far, I don't think I had any idea what I was getting into!

My goal is simple really - Become financially independent.

Looking forward to connecting with people here as there are some interesting things happening here.

    Hello,

I am a Montreal based print maker. I am specialized in collage + screen print over it. I always wanted to be a "full time artist" when I'll be older, but I lost my job in May and I am now hustling like a queen to make it happen!

I am here to learn and share tips, knowledge in order to grow a business to make a living. So I am trying tactics to reach and acquire my ideal customers, get wholesale deal and get as much exposer as I can while doing Artist Open call and offering my design to illustrate texts.

    I run a Shopify https://goldengen.ca/ and a Etsy https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/GoldengenTreasure

    Happy to be here,

Hi, I'm Trey. I'm a web developer and photographer in Massachusetts, USA.

I'm working on publicly launching a project called Cassette Nest that helps analog film photographers track and manage their inventory of film before and after they use it.

I'm doing every aspect of it myself from design (what there is of that so far) to development as well as setting up hosting infrastructure. The latter is what I've been focusing on lately. I find myself going down rabbit holes sometimes and wish I had a more clear path towards having this project generate income.

I'm happy to have found this community! It seems like just the place to help me kick this project into high gear.

Hello! I'm a project administrator who is living with schizophrenia, which makes holding a steady job for somebody else pretty hard. I had a few projects in mind for a couple of months, and I believe that putting them together is going to help me get some stability and structure in my life.
There aren't a lot of schizophrenic success stories and I would like to change that so the people out there who are living with this condition can get some hope, and if things go as I expect them to go, to provide them with a helping hand.
The project that I want to focus on is creating a children-oriented MOOC platform to help parents teach their kids different things, from practical skills (for ex. how to build a kite, play an instrument, draw comics, etc) to help with school subjects. I'm still working on it, but that's the main idea.
If you want to know more, have a suggestion, or just want to chat, send me an email. I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Have a great week, and good luck with your projects! (:

Opportunity and idea overload is one of the hurdles I am looking to overcome. Looking for ways how I can focus my attention and energy on the one indie hacker project. I’d like to help the community as well. I have launched several new business operations, coached, mentored leaders and improved turned around failing operations. I've been wanting to start a side project and create a community for helping people create a digital nomadic lifestyle. One to help with long term financial planning and the other with sharing financial resources. Hoping to launch this first one in beta this quarter, the other when I find the time, both are being bootstrapped at the moment. Trying not get distracted by further ideas in the education space / community building space, currently buying way too many domains.

Hi there! I'm Jeyashree, founder of Sol (www.getsol.live). We are a platform that instantly connects people who need language and cultural access with interpreters.

    • Like Uber that gets you a driver with a push of a button, Sol connects you with an interpreter.
    • Our vision to empower each other to help and make the world a more inclusive and empathetic place.

We are looking for a technical cofounder to not just create the app, but also to join the Sol family in our current accelerator, join us in applying to other accelerators (TechStars + Y Combinator), and, together, grow this company to help people across the world.

P.S. if you are (or know anyone) bilingual who is also passionate about helping people, there is an application on our website (quicklink to application: https://bit.ly/SolInterpreter)

I have a blog I have been running for over 15 years called Drishtikone (https://drishtikone.com/) - which means perspective in Sanskrit. It is a view on the world from an Indic (Indian) Civilizational perspective. Started an eclectic newsletter - daily - recently has over 830 subscribers. https://www.getrevue.co/profile/drishtikone Want to grow it further. I also have a podcast on anchor.fm, which I add to sometimes.

    Hey everyone,

I am Neeraj, a full-stack developer from India. My side hustle was Violet - which was a residential apartment management software which didn't take off but taught me many valuable lessons which I carry forward to this day. I am here to connect to like-minded hustlers and see if I can find a Gandalf to my Frodo Baggins (or the other way around, who knows).

I have earlier worked as a freelancer on Upwork where I created many SaaS based applications for small to mid size businesses. Currently working as senior engineer / tech lead in a software firm to pay those damn bills.

I love learning new technologies but my full time job leaves me tired and de-motivated sometimes to do anything new. Hope it changes soon.

You can connect with me on Twitter @codeinprogress

Hoping to make some amazing new connections here.

    Hey all! 😃

The name is Tim - a digital designer based in Stockholm, Sweden. One of those poor, gun shy people who've been excited about just getting started with a side venture for a couple of years, but barely even got his finger on the trigger. Until now.

    Three quick facts:

    • Big fan of MMA (and martial arts in general), although it's been less and less now that my side project is taking up more time.
    • Just ruptured my achilles tendon, so I'm currently more focused on the art of crutches.
    • I'm kind of doing the keto diet, but not really.

Super excited to finally getting going with this darn entrepreneurial journey, and I'm really looking forward to learning from all of the great founders in this community 🥳

    PS.
To all the developers and technical startup founders who shiver by the thought of spending more hours on design than actual coding, and who don't want to be stuck with a certain framework, library or constraining website builder, please holla at me. Or check out https://try.pastepanda.com/early-access. Or even better—both! 🖤

    Hey, 🤙

    I'm Victor and I'm French. 🥐
I've had a lot of side projects in my head since I was a kid.💡
    I'm not a developer, I'm not an entrepreneur. I'm a Boostrapper, an intrapreneur and a no coder.💻
And I'm here to take action and launch my side projects. 🚀
The next idea I want to launch will help companies to recruit people who want to work in full remote. 🤝

With to Indie Hacker and her community, I'm sure I'll make progress and be able to launch projects that have an impact.

    See you soon. 🤙

    1. 1

Hey Victor, nice to meet you. My friend owns a small recruitment company and I sure your product will be helpful to him

      1. 1

Hello, thank you for your feedback, when I launch my product I will share it with you. ;-)

  101. 1

Hi I'm Bryn. I am currently a business management student going on my junior year. I am not sure what i want to do yet, but I know I want to eventually own my own business, so i figured this would be a good place to generate ideas and network.

Hi all, my name is Rowena. I'm taking a one-year break from my day job and would like to launch a podcast later this year to talk about the intersection of a few areas that I'm passionate about: technology, poverty, and health. A friend recommended the Indie Hackers community to me as a great online space to make connections, share feedback, get encouragement, and build momentum, particularly when working solo - so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm looking forward to getting to know this space and this crowd a little better.

    Hello Rosie!
I was happy to learn about you and your work and even happier to dive into this community. My org. Signal Kitchen has been building [and dreaming of] communities in physical spaces for ~10years. Now we're pushing into the virtual space, for obvious reasons, and were on the hunt to soak up as much knowledge as we can. Thanks for all your work, looking forward to learning.
    Cheers,
    Alex

Hello everyone. I've been a member here for about a year now, but I'm not sure if I ever introduced myself. I'm Dan and I'm a Software Engineer with over 15 years of experience. However, I don't have a software side-project and I'm not looking start one either.

I enjoy the little free time that I have. I enjoy fishing as a hobby and have my own bass fishing blog (https://afishingaddiction.com/). I've made some recent improvements and I'm very happy about my logo, color scheme, simplistic design, and proud of my PageSpeed Insights score of 97 for mobile and 100 for desktop.

I have an email list with very few subscribers (21) that I have accumulated over 2 years. My goal is to get to 100 by the end of 2020. But I want those subscribers to be legitimate and actually interested in fishing. So I'm NOT asking you all to subscribe. I have a few ideas on how to attract more visitors and subscribers, but that's for another post. Basically, I need to add more pertinent content.

    Thanks for reading!

Hey IH - I'm Aaron, a South Florida aspiring entrepreneur and founder of https://roomaters.com
Being a non-technical solopreneur has been quite the challenge over these past 3 years, but I've somehow managed to launch a product that I think can help millions of people feel more confident about who they choose to live with.
Staying focused and knowing what to do next has been tough on my own, but I am hoping to gain some valuable insights, make connections (potentially team members), and learn helpful nuggets from the vast experience of the IH community.

    Hello, everyone :o)

I'm Jaymie and I co-founded Payzip (https://www.payzip.co.uk/) a member payments system for sports clubs, orchestras, choirs - you name it. Our v1 product has run for 7 years(!) and it's now time for an update, so we're busy testing v2 and there'll be a new website shortly as well. I'm hoping to get some objective opinions and insight on that when it's ready.

We're a small team based in South Wales, UK, and I'm excited to participate in this warm, friendly community.

Hi! I'm Doug, I run a development agency (https://triplenerdscore.net/) in the US, and am working on some indie apps:

    1. Engauge Analytics (https://engaugeanalytics.com/): Privacy focused analytics that still gives meaningful marketing data.
    2. Hey, Check It: Website SEO, content, uptime monitoring, SSL monitoring, site speed testing, and behavioral-based pinging, all in on place! Currently in private alpha.
    3. Formman.co (https://formman.co/): Simple forms for static websites!
    4. Various ExpressionEngine add-ons: CMS based add-ons, and an add-on builder (https://ee-addon-generator.triplenerdscore.xyz/)!

I'm here to learn, grow, and hopefully find some help in my start up. It's a whole different world, so I'm looking to develop this thing in to something that does good in the world. Looking forward to connecting with y'all!

Hey, I'm Sameer a Radio show professional and co founder of Chaiwala project, a passionate tea room based out of Hyderabad, India.

Hi there! I'm Attila, a full stack dev from Hungary. Working with a small team from the US to make communication easier for construction workers and general contractors. On the other hand I had a bunch of product ideas which landed in the shelf and never validated them.

Away from working I spend my time with my family (wife, 2 kids) and cycling in a serious amateur level.

I'm here to learn and hopefully I can give back something to the community.

Hi I'm Ben - I graduated as an engineer, went into private equity then VC then growth and I'm finally back at square one doing what I love - building things 😁. So I'm long in the tooth re-startup strategy, scaling businesses, finance, marketing but a jnr when it comes to react and swift.

Along the way I've been lucky enough to work with great teams at Veed.io, Vidsy.co and Fliplet.com. All are flourishing (and hopefully the next big thing!). I'm looking to find my own next big thing and I'll need a great community to do this so I'm really happy to join IH!. looking forward to more. Ben.

PS: I've just launch my first product on Product Hunt today as well - link here: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/screen-webcam-recorder

Hi, I'm Alex 24 yo from Brussels but currently living in Berlin. After 2 years of working as a growth marketer and CRO specialist, I decided that it was time to work on something for myself.

I want to capitalize on the chocolate factory that my family owns (cliché I know) back in Brussels. I am developing a new food product that I am currently calling "brain bars" => mix between a healthy snack bar + nootropics (brain supplements). I am finalizing the recipe inside of a food startup incubator here in Berlin and as soon as I am done with the recipe I would like to start a small production in Belgium.

I already want to get some expertise with Shopify so if any of you can recommend a great online course about managing a Shopify shop I would really appreciate it.

Looking forward to exchanging with this new community.

Hi there, I'm Shushma and I've been looking for a side hustle for a bit and collecting inspiration. My main gig is in behavioral healthcare and I've been instrumental in bringing technology into the space.

Outside of that, I enjoy hiking, biking, happy hours and I'm trying to bring back the art of tea time:)

I would love to find a business partner or a way to support others in their endeavors.

Hiya, I'm Debbie, really excited to be here! I was born and bred in Indonesia with all the privileges I wasn't aware of. Moved to the UK when I was 26 with a scholarship, and had to start over with no connection, social capital, or even friends. Hang on, that sounded more desperate that I actually feel! 😂
I'm a PM at an ed-tech startup in London and previously at Facebook. I'm working on this idea to build a chatbot that helps people bake sourdough, pastry, and other complex recipes. I'm here mainly to find like-minded people in the UK :)

Hello there, I'm Alessandro, a master's degree student in computer science, and recently I realized that would be awesome to make a living from my projects.
I'm having a hard time finding good ideas to develop that potentially could help me gain some money while I finish my studies and possibly make it my living after that.

That is my main goal at the moment, develop something that others could find useful, and gain my first penny this way. It might seem trivial to some but it would mean a lot to me.

Hope to learn a lot and have good times. Ciao!

Hello, I'm Aaron, I want to help the people of the world with their mental health and give people an understanding of how our minds work. The human brain is one of, if not the most complex thing on this planet, it can produce many beautiful and ingenuous outcomes and products and equally terrifying and disturbing ones. The more people understand how and why our brain works and reacts in certain ways the more peace and harmony and understanding we may all have from all backgrounds, cultures and beliefs and as a result we could be 1000000x more progressive than we currently are. Tackling tough subjects such as Racism, Sexism, Corruption, Homophobia, Abuse of Power and many more on a Podcast and YouTube channel providing free education with no intentions of up selling education. I would love to also have an app available free for everyone to track their mental health and give daily tips and goals, for people not just with mental health issues but for all to achieve their full potential and be productive. I am more of an Ideas man, sadly not fully tech savvy so if you are competent at making such apps or generally good with coding I would love to hear from you...... [email protected] for any inquiries. Be great. be you.

Hello, my name is Shakhbulat Gazgireev (don't strain yourself trying to pronounce it lmao).

I've been a Frontend Developer for more than three years now.
I always wanted to make constant progress, but now I kinda hit the maximum in terms of my salary-experience ratio (and, honestly, I'm VERY comfortable at my current job).

While I'm still learning and looking forward to progress in my career, building some side-projects certainly wouldn't bring any harm!

A long time ago I've learned that being in a community of like-minded individuals is one of the best ways to progress, so here I am!

Excited to see what you all make and excited to build something myself!

    1. 1

Hi Shakhbulat, looking forward to seeing what you might produce.

  139. 1

    Hi everyone,
My name is Juan and am a recent grad from uni here in the states. I want to start my own company. Right now, I am in the ideation stage, but I know I want to build a company that aims to reverse some of the negative effects of climate change while also providing some sort of service/product. Mostly, I decided to join Indie Hackers to bounce ideas off folks, as well as build up a community of people with the same values as my own. Cheers!

    1. 1

Grand aims indeed Juan! I'm in a similar boat as I'm at the nascent stages. Having just come out of a company that iterated many times over 12 years it's a long game and companies change in a compounding and exponential fashion as they increase in size and complexity. Start with that grand vision but anchor yourself in an initial mission no longer than 3 years. you don't want it too far away that it's discouraging but at the same time you need it to be on route towards the right destination. I look forward to seeing iterations.

  142. 1

    Hi,

    I'm Beng from Perth, Australia.

I've been lurking on Indie Hackers on-and-off for the last couple of years. Earlier this year, my regular gig (I'm a professional software engineer/developer/manager) terminated due to COVID-19 and, instead of rushing out to find another job, I decided to try building something of my own. Hope it works out!

    1. 1

Hi Beng, well done on making the leap. A couple of years as a lurker is testament to your commitment in itself! Building a company will be no problem :)

  143. 1

After spending some time working at a large enterprise, I'm hoping to get back to my original joy and make a living as a maker. My goal in 2020 is to have my first product launched!

    1. 1

Hello name buddy, as a fellow Kevin I am very enthusiastic for you to succeed. I know you can do it!

    Hey everyone!
I'm Denis. I create mobile apps, mostly for iOS and iPadOS but sometimes for Android too. I live in Sydney and working fulltime, but always trying to find time for my side projects to grow them into small businesses. My dream is to create a great app that helps people with their tasks or maybe improve the quality of their lives.

    1. 1

A noble dream Denis, what kinds of tasks might you care most about helping?

      1. 1

Great question @tell_me_a_story. I think, currently, mostly about these areas:
        * safety and wellbeing including psychological safety,
        * personal time management,
        * and education.
I feel like we have something to improve there.

Hi, I'm Jonathan and I've been helping Direct-To-Consumer Ecommerce businesses scale to 7 figure revenues using Google Ads for over a decade now.

I'm here to connect with e-commerce businesses as well as other marketers. I've recently started producing in-depth growth studies of my work and I'd like to see what others are writing and sharing too.

Here's the piece I produced recently about how I helped an ecommerce brand reach 7 figures - https://www.octobermarketing.com/2mm-growth-ecom-google-ads/

Also, I'm interested in hearing how ecommerce brands who aren't dropshippers describe themselves. Direct-To-Consumer or DTC is common with some people I know but not with all!

    1. 2

Thanks for sharing Jonathan. Tbh, Google ads is a ninja art requiring so much time that in my experience I've always deferred it! This is a great list and starting a new company again I might need to spend some time on my own campaigns again. I'll be watching your contributions with interest.

Hi, I'm Joe currently a second year University student studying planning and learning cyber security and software development in my spare time. I'm here to develop myself better and start seeking a job.

    1. 1

Well there's no better way to learn than to actually create and help others. Great to meet you.

  153. 1

Hey Rob here! I seem to have a habit of building things and solving things for other people. Now I think it's time to build something for myself!

I've worked in a variety of startups (most have crashed and burned) and currently working as a tech consultant with larger businesses.

I do love the fun of building something from the ground up, and have been working hard on a digital menu builder for the restaurant/cafe industry to help small businesses with the challenges presented by COVID-19

    1. 1

Hi Rob, well if there has ever been a time for a fresh start it's right now. Looking forward to seeing how you might challenge existing digital menu options.

Hi. I am Daniel, 38 years old specimen of the male gender. I live in Czechia (Czech Republic). I am married for seven years, and we have two cats instead of children.

I went through several programming jobs since I got my first computer 23 years ago. I was never into "building career" thing. To enjoy any kind of work, I need to keep learning. At the moment I feel like stagnating, I get annoyed pretty fast and move on.

For the last four years, I have been working exclusively remotely because commuting just felt like a waste of time. I had enough social life outside of work to mitigate a "loneliness" problem, so it was a good portion of my life.

Anyway, when my last bigger project ended in December 2019, I felt like this isn't for me anymore to go through interviews and pretend I am someone better, and they need to hire me. I made enough money in the past jobs to be able to just live from savings for a couple of years.

The idea of building something of my own was floating in my brains for the past year or two, but it never was more than that. January 2020 was that breaking point I knew I need to do it. It took me another month to find out what it's going to be like.

And here I am today, moving toward the first MVP and wondering where I am going to find my first users and a plethora of other issues I am scared to think of now. I will reveal more details later, but the core idea is about reinventing online dating which currently feels like shallow "picking from a catalog".

What drives me? I don't care about money that much. It's nice to have enough for quality life without thinking about it. Having too much money is almost a burden I would say. I don't have any big dreams, I just want to live a happy life and to have friendly people around me.

    1. 2

We're the same age! Great that you are making a leap and it sounds like you've already adapted to many of the problems that might come with working outside of a larger company backbone. Now just to launch and start iterating. Good luck!

Hello, I'm Kevin. I am developing a new entertainment medium at the intersection of art, film and live experience. My as yet unnamed venture aims to expand the definition of art while helping a whole new generation of creators earn. That is a bit vague but it will necessarily concrete up in the next few weeks. Think Netflix, for art.

Although I am in the earliest days of its conception, I wanted to just break the blank sheet barrier and start posting on this community as I'm really looking forward to joining some like minded folks on the journey. I have significant experience in building agency model businesses & conferences but this will be the first time I've ever built a product / service from scratch with full autonomy.

  156. 1

    Hey guys,

I'm Kevin I'm a full-stack software developer and at one point data scientist/engineer. I also partake in photography when I can.

I don't know where my next challenge or venture is but I think the idea and challenge of entrepreneurship and building my own product is something that really inspires me to learn and grow.

Thats what I'm here for, my growth.

    1. 1

Check out all the Kevin's in this batch! Great to meet you Kevin, together we are exponential Kevin, learning from one another's journeys!

    Hi,

My name is Shaya, I'm a full-stack web developer with over a decade of experience. Up until 2 years ago I worked for a company in-house, so I didn't get to learn new things, I was busy maintaining what the company had. When I left my job to open my own business I promised myself that I'll new things all the time.

I'm currently building my first API for a client, and separately am learning ReactJS.

Hope to grow a lot here!

    1. 2

Hi Shaya, I'm sure you've learned a great many things and now the learning will speed up again.

Hi, I am Vishva. I have studied Computer Programming , and did a course of IT analyst in my free time. I am here to focus on creative projects to expand my programming skills and knowledge. I am still learning freelancing, blogging and how to write creative and engaging content.

  166. 1

    Ahoy 👋

I'm a corporate software engineer that's curious about the community. I've listened to indie developer podcasts for a while and would like to hear more about people's experiences in this area.

    1. 1

Hi Jacob, corporates give us a lot of insight into a structure we can only wish for in smaller ventures. The grass is always greener!

  167. 1

Hi. My name is Shan. I am a Computer Engineer. I didn't focus much on coding during my degree because I intended to venture into the foodservice industry. However, that plan had some setbacks so I need to learn coding again, especially web development. In 2020, I intend to learn the latest iteration of Angular.

    1. 1

Hi Shan, welcome back to the world of engineering. Program or be programmed.

  168. 1

Hi guys, I'm Manuel. I love programming, learn the newest features, modern programming languages, and the efficient way to code. See you there!

    1. 1

Hi Manuel, it's easy to fall down an optimisation hole. Remember to come up for the air of true purpose now and then.

  169. 1

    Hi guys,
I'm Aldira. I'm interested in developing apps, from web to mobile apps.
Current job as a DevOps Engineer, but have experience in QA Engineer

    1. 2

You likely don't realise how far you are along your own path as you have been busy working along the way! Good luck Aldira.

  170. 1

I'm a victim of "Mera Beta Engineer Banega"

If you don't know Hindi, that translates to "My son will become an engineer".

Yes, my parents uttered those words when I was born & so I went on to become a computer engineer.

But I never developed any interest in it.

Post engineering, I worked in four different companies doing social media marketing, paid marketing and content marketing.

These days, I'm working on a side project where I try to cover the business models of famous companies better than the top ranking google results

In case you're interested, I covered the business model of YouTube in the last blog I published ( It covers all the newer revenue sources as well, which most top-ranking blogs have missed out )

You can read it here: https://whatisthebusinessmodelof.com/business-models/how-youtube-makes-money/

Looking forward to learning marketing and community building here.

PS: I made up the part of the story where my parents say I'll be an engineer when I grow up

    1. 1

Ha! I'd never heard of that term. That article is a really fantastic breakdown of youtube's growth journey thanks for sharing.

      1. 1

Thank you. Appreciate you taking out the time to read.

  171. 1

Maybe you could be a part of it!

    2. 1

Hi Andrew, I'm sure you can. Why not try building yourself something and others will surely be inspired from your creations and want to benefit from some of that energy you are putting into whatever it is you are building.

  174. 1

Hi there! I am Mahfuz, a 19 year old. I have been trying to learn bits of creative work and programming and and I tend to procrastinate by switching between what I learn every once in a while.

    1. 1

Hi Mahfuz, that sounds good! It's hard to feel that commitment I've been meeting every week with an old work colleague to set two aims every week. It's been working well and gives me an excuse to chat with him :)

    1. 1

Great to meet you Wisnu. That's a great achievement! Interesting to see an Indonesian localised web presence builder having so much success. Often it's the case that the more curated the experience, the more appealing it is for customers to make the jump in full knowledge you are the right option for their audience.

    Hi everyone,

My name is Nathan and I'm a Software Engineer with ~5 years of experience at hyper growth start ups. I'm interested in building out side income revenue streams and learning more about what it takes to build a successful company!

    1. 1

Hi Nathan, well you've saw it from the inside now to abstract.

  181. 1

Hey everybody! I'm building a gamified coding education site at https://classroom.qvault.io

    Glad to be here!

    1. 1

Hi Lane, great to see Qvault I'd love to be able to try ou ta super easy initial task before signing up.

  182. 1

    Hello everyone,

I found this platform from my friend. I am hoping to make the most out of it and thanks to him.

    1. 1

Nice to meet you, your friend has helped you take one more step on a never ending wonderful journey to mastery.

  183. 1

Hi everyone. I'm Nick. I recently started a digital marketing company which is my first company outside of a real estate business. I am hoping to learn as much as I can here with other start-up business owners, get some feedback on landing pages, and development relationships. My Website is www.localgymmarketer.com
I help grow health and fitness businesses. Look forward to meeting you all.

    1. 1

Hi Nick, I love your business focus because it's super easy to see the benefit for the audience. "My Phone has been ringing off the hook" is pretty much the best quote you could ever get from a customer, it's a shame you don't share his name and company and a link to his website as it's yet another exposure opportunity for him, while you'd earn more from the social / professional validation.

      1. 1

Kevin. thanks for the feedback. I am going to update this.

  184. 1

    Hi everyone
My name is Taoufik and i'm creating a Saas loyalty software for shopify, i'm here to lear more about scaling and growth, and also to find some adopter who might be interested in testing the private beta that will come out in 3 week.

    1. 1

Hi Taoufik, I'm looking forward to seeing your software although I don't htink I'll be ready for any shopify plugins.

  185. 1

Hello, nice people with nice heads.
I just want to play bigger in this strange world.
    23. Computer Engineering student.

    1. 1

Why thank you Cahit, it's great that you've already tried and failed once already with your Halloween game. What did you learn that time round?

  186. 1

    Hi everyone,
My name is Jason, I have little experience in coding but start to learn during COVID-19 pandemic. Maybe I can change my career.
I also want to help my daughter. She love drawing, writting stories and is seriously gifted at this.
We support her to publish her first book in 2019 when she was 7.
    https://books.google.com.au/books/about/The_Adventures_of_Smoke.html?id=OhXCDwAAQBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false

    1. 1

Wow, that's young to have had anything published! If you can learn some new skills while helping your daughter sure sounds like a worthwhile use of time to me.

  187. 1

Hi! My name is Tiffany and I'm a UBC engineering student. I love learning how to code and am currently working on a recipe sharing website with PHP and MySQL databases. On the side, I like writing about learning, productivity and curiosity over at my website: https://tiffanymatthe.com. My goal is to get 100 newsletter subscribers at the end of the year, and ship my recipe sharing website.

    1. 1

Great ambition Tiffany, with a specialism in Physics even just a small number of targeted expert subscribers might really benefit from anything you choose to share.

      1. 1

Thank you I'm always aiming to help my subscribers in any way I can!

  188. 1

    Hello Everyone,

    1. 1

Hi Tony, what kinds of ideas have you had already?

  189. 1

    Hey folks,

My name is Aleks, I'm a Wardley Mapper. Came here to help people solve problems. Learning and practicing product strategy with Wardley Maps.
My background, AWS Serverless Hero, wrote a book with my good friend Slobodan "Serverless Applications with Node.js" on Manning. Creator of BattleCamp, coorganizer of JS Belgrade (we grew a community of over 2100 members from scratch), Serverless Belgrade, Map Meetup Belgrade.

    1. 1

That's really interesting I'd never heard of Wardley Mapping, thanks I'm going to look into that further.

    Hello Everyone,
Ali here, an indie maker from Egypt. One of my new year resolutions was to monetize my side projects and it took a pandemic to get me going. I run a substack newsletter first1000.substack.com as well as a Growth Experiments App(iOS) "Swype" that is a database of 500+ growth experiments for PMS and Growth Hackers to adapt for every part of their funnel. The hardest part of doing this has been how lonely and mentally draining it can be. Besides my full time job I also have a few gigs I do on the side, and carving out the time consistently every week to work on my stuff has been really challenging.

Excited to be part of this community and get to know a lot more indie-makers!

    1. 1

Great to meet you Ali, that newsletter is 🔥 Thanks for collecting and sharing these stories in one place.

  191. 1

    Hello Everyone,
My name is Shekhar Patil. I am from Pune, India. I am an entrepreneur and software developer. I had a hiring consultancy in Pune which I ran for almost 3 years and now I am thinking of starting new business. I am here to learn and share ideas. It's great to be part of this community.

    1. 1

Hi Shekhar, Pune is a wonderful backdrop to work from, although those roads are really terrifying during the rains! Nice to meet you.

      1. 1

True! Have been to Pune recently? Nice to meet you too!

        1. 1

Quite a few years ago back now but I have fond memories. I will forever remember the peep peep of cars from all around me as we hurtle through the rain :)

  193. 1

Hi Guys, my name is Bruslan.
I am looking for a mentor who tells me exactly how I can use with my programming knowledge to earn money. I always worked for big companies so i don't know how to make money by my self. I could take a job in a big company at any time, but it wouldn't make me happy.

My goal is to be independent. I heard about some sites like "upwork.com" or "twargo" "Fiver" but never used them because of the high competitors.

Is here somebody who had or have the same situation?

What is the first step here?

    1. 1

Hi Bruslan, nice to meet you. In trying to find a mentor I'd first try deciding who you'd most like to look like in future. What might you have achieved? Then seek them out through shared connections and activities and eventually you'll circle in on someone who might be able to help.

  194. 1

Hello! My name is trevze, goal is to be more doer than dreamer. Learning and building up my skills now. Glad to join a community!

I've been following along some Indie Hackers and love the community aspect of sharing ideas for success. As I continue to look to Indie Hackers for inspiration I'm also very excited to share our stories with you all. Feel free to check out our work and comment on your thoughts. Feedback is the key to improving!

    Cheers,
    Andoni

Hey everyone I'm currently a student getting two degrees in Business and in Computer Science. I've been beginning to get into programming more and currently have an internship as a Junior Dev. My goal would be to either create a software product that can help solve someone's problems or to be able to create a solution for businesses using web design.

Hi everyone, I work as DevOps/SRE guy at my day job.

Honestly, having a profitable side project that solves people problems is my goal. I'm looking for some simple product idea that can be managed by myself.

Hey everyone, I'm Alex Ruhl. I run a Virtual Reality studio in the UK. I'm moving away from service-based projects & instead, putting out content around building a sustainable business in the emerging tech space. Looking forward to connecting with lots of you!

Hello Alex, great to meet you, thank you for delivering an inspiring Ted talk! I'm sure @Yonasgideon will be inspired by how you captures your brothers wedding in VR for your grandmother. Fulfilling dying wishes, immortalising people and memories certainly hits a chord with what I hope to build in the next few years. I'd really like to throw around some ideas as to how we might work together in future in bringing alive artworks and their creators for an audience.

Any advice?

Hi everyone my name is Josh, I've been battling between starting an e-commerce marketplace or a Bitcoin exchange startup

Tough call Jay, what does your heart say? At the end of the day you can start a socks company and be successful because people have feet. It's less about the game and more about the player. If you are the man for the job then you are going to suceed, depends where your head is at, you'll only put 100% in if you love it.

      1. 1

Wow, thanks alot for the reply, indeed I'm just going to go first for what my heart beats for and then the rest can follow

    1. 1

JavaFX! wow theres a blast from the past. You never know with technologies, fashions always change in waves. Rich clients might become all the rage again. Less important than the language is always the value proposition and making something that really fulfils a need. Great to meet you.

Hello! I am Andronic. I am 57 years old. My main goal is to actively participate in the creation of the Internet of labor. We want to rid the market participants of services from such regulators as Uber. Technology is needed to automate only business processes. Creating business models is the business of service providers! The choice of service providers remains with the consumers! To do this, we created the Setradar platform on the trading floor. With your help, together we will defeat the giants, turning the creators into their tools! 365 sunny days in your home!

    1. 1

Hi Andronic, tbh, the internet of labor doesn't sound very appealing. Will it still have cats? Glad you have a great big juicy ambition though and I applaud you for it.
