Welcome, introduce yourself! (Week of Nov 15th)

Rosie here -- the Indie Hackers community manager. Welcome! 👋

This short guide is meant to help you get the most out of Indie Hackers.

First, introduce yourself!

Indie Hackers is a community of people helping each other build profitable businesses and side projects. The key word here is "community." Don't be shy!

For starters, take a second to introduce yourself and share your goals in the comments below. 👇

Just say a few words about who you are, why you're here, and what you hope to accomplish or learn in 2020.

Take a moment to say hello to someone else as well!

Dive into learning.

We've interviewed hundreds of successful indie hackers. I recommend reading a few of their stories. It's a great way to get an overview of what's possible.

@csallen also puts out podcast episodes if reading isn't your thing!

Next, get started!

There's no time like the present. Check out the "Start Here" page for a list of practical steps and articles that can help you take action.

Not only will it help you get started, but it should also introduce you to some of the best parts of the Indie Hackers community.

This is just the tip of the iceberg! If you're ever feeling lost or confused, post in the Meta group or tag me (@rosiesherry) in any comment or post.

Don't forget to introduce yourself and say hi to someone else below! 🤗

Peace be upon you. I'm an environmental science student and I'm here to learn how to start business for student. I saw many of my friends doing small business but I'm not happy with that because of the business is seem likes you are helping other people but not improve you income at all. The products you are selling is not your own ideas and you just helping the owner to become extraordinary rich but the efforts to increase the margin of the business is your effort. For me it's not win-win situation especially for student. I hope the people in indie hacker can share the tips to become an entrepreneurs in university life.

lord aguma did it again for me after helping me get my husband back. I want to introduce to the world lord aguma the great spell caster who brought my husband back to me when I thought that all hope was lost. so I contacted him and respected everything he told me to do and in fact, I got the result in 48 hours as he assured me. he used his powerful spell to put a smile on my face by bringing my man back , at first I thought I was dreaming when my husband came back to me on his knees begging me to forgive him and accept him and even since then he loves me more than I ever expected, so I vowed to myself that I would introduce to the world about lord aguma because he is a great man. Do you have problems in your relationship? did your partner broke up with you, do you still love him and want him back, Having trouble with your finance? or you need help of any kind, contact lord aguma today to give you 100% guarantee that will help you just like it helped me. if you believe he can help you contact him via email address: [email protected]

Hi Everyone – I did the boom-bust of a few startups between 2005-2018, and for the past two years have been "disrupting" a centuries-old industry (Leather Care) with natural, orange scented, leather care products. So, instead of writing code, I now hand pour waxes and oils, and ship it to Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris, etc. But, I still find the voracious learning and aggressive approach of developers and digital startups, to still be a wonderful cross-discipline learning experience. I get to dip from a large Venn overlap from new world metrics-based decision making, with old-world market incumbency. So, I appreciate joining the community.
Oh, and my company is Pure Polish (hence the handle) – https://www.purepolishproducts.com/
    Cheers!

I can help out with topics around APIs, Laravel, PHP, MYSQL, performance optimization, front-end development AWS and similar. Hi folks!

34 yo entrepreneur turned consultant turned corporate drone turned entrepreneur currently in Dallas by way of India, UK, Singapore, Tokyo, and Beijing.
Apparently during the caffeine, alcohol, and pizza fueled two years that was business school I earned a masters in Data Science, Digital Marketing, and Strategy (idk of that’s true or they just had enough of me 🧐)
Spent the last 5 years in accelerated leadership program of the world’s largest eyewear company where I drank from the firehouse and rotated through Product & Brand Management, Channel Strategy, and Consumer Marketing - managing a $1.2bn brand, launching consumer financing as a first in this industry, and in my last role as Associate Director leading overall US consumer marketing strategy supported by a super talented team of marketers where we shaped a yearly investment of $200mn.

Resigned on Oct 30th, with big plans and suppliers in Wuhan. In Nov, Covid kicked my ass and I have been tap dancing since.
Currently run a successful Martech consulting practice with a few projects on the horizon (hey that’s me! No pun intended). Looking forward to sharing what I learned from the many many face palms and learning from y’all’s experiences.

Hey @hawk at 19, I was getting proper drunk in UK pubs.. so kudos on being ahead of at least the curve I was on! Cyber security is a hot area - one of my closest friends is an auditor with Apiro and mentioned yesterday that the entire industry has a massive talent shortage - his team alone is 10 people short. Happy to make an intro if you like :)

    See y’all around ... be nice I am new .. ;)

Hi all! My name is Bas, entrepreneur (since 2009) from the Netherlands. Currently I'm recovering from a burn out and saying goodbye to my business (a visual thinking agency) which I started in 2012.

My goal for 2021 is to be a solo maker again and making digital products for small businesses, with a focus on automation of sales, marketing and ideas. But I don't have a real focus yet, so that's where you guys come in.

Let's make some great products together and let's inspire each other to travel new roads.

Hi, I'm a developer from South Florida building guavanumbers.com as a side project.

I am here to validate my ideas, help out other founders and make new connections

  84. 1

Hi, I've been developing full-stack code for the last 10 years. I've been building side projects during my whole career, almost all have failed but I've learned important lessons in being a solo founder along the way. Lessons in marketing, coding, accounting, business, struggle, etc. My 1 project that I've invested in slowly over the years has finally started to mature and grow recently due to COVID, my product is an ecard platform and businesses latched on to it as a way to continue giving recognition and gratitude in a way that is safe and socially distanced. You can check it out at ecardwidget.com, and, it's freemium if you want to use it (I'd love feedback :). And if you want to upgrade, I'd like to give you 50 percent off with code: indiehackers50off

Looking forward to investing in the indiehacker community

    Hi,

I am Abhaya from Bangalore. I run a bootstrapped DIY publishing platform https://pothi.com focused on Indian market that I started with my partner 12 years ago. We are a 10 person company now. Anyone looking to bring their books to an Indian audience, I am happy to help.

Along the way we also built https://instascribe.com, https://summary.town, a blog2book service that we recently shutdown, to various degrees of success (dud to minimal). Our most recent lockdown inspired experiment is https://pulpak.com/.

I have been lurking here for few weeks now and getting inspired seeing how everyone is pushing ahead with their goals. I am hoping some of that enthusiasm will rub off on me. :-)

My goals are getting better at running my current business (I'm currently flying solo) and build a second viable business from one of the ideas we have been toying around with.

  117. 1

Wow. Wasn't aware this marketplace grows so fast, I thought it's a new thing for AppSumo.

Hey Sherry, I'm Richard Miles, a long-time entrepreneur. I hate to say how long, but I started my first business in the 1980's, sold it to a Fortune 500 company, worked in the Fortune 500 and then started a consulting firm helping high-tech companies bring products to market. I founded an online marketplace for consumer software and took it public -- right before the dot-com crash of the early 2000's. My skills are sales and marketing, and I partnered with a genius marketer to develop CLOSEM, an easy to use contact management system buckled to a powerful messaging platform to help solo entrepreneurs and small teams do the hard work of follow-up with leads, prospects and customers to increase sales.

    Hi Rosie & community,

My name is Santiago and I'm trying to start a SaaS business. I graduated as an Electronics Engineer, and worked most of my career (15 out of 20 years) in high volume Electronics Manufacturing sector in Argentina. I centered my work around introducing digital systems and automation to get a better control of these complex operations, and since a couple of years I've been developing (solo, part-time) a system to serve this sector.

I'm just a few weeks away from finishing my MVP (complex subject, so MVP is not super small, though I do think it's minimal).

During the pandemic I've been almost out of work (contract work and consulting for the sector), and my goal since the last few months is to get all-in on this endeavor. I have some money saved and can live (frugally) for a couple of years.

My goal is to start demoing this project before the end of the year and hopefully make my first sell beginning next year.

Glad to join this nice community.

    Cheers to all!

Hey everyone, I'm a 22 year old from Midwest USA currently working as a frontend developer, but consider myself a full stack developer. Outside of work I'm trying to improve my skills and start marketing The Safe Browser a kid-friendly web browser I made around 6 months back when I was jobless and in need of a stand-out project. The project ended up landing me my job, but I haven't gotten any users yet, understandably because of 0 zero marketing. I want to start up another project soon and market it in conjunction with my web browser and maybe get a little more money coming in.

Hi Rosie! Happy to be part of IndieHackers, finally. I've been lurking around for so long. I'm currently in a perpetual state of anxiety, pushing the boundaries of my vulnerability by publishing Newsletter and writing on Medium and my blog. I'm working full time as a Product Manager in banking, hoping to be able to grow a newsletter related to the Fintech niche so that it ties into a potential career in banking. Man this is longer than I expected, but it's a very exciting journey, that's for sure. I hope I can contribute and be of use to others in the community.

Hi, I'm a former software designer turned building designer. I previously started a software agency in 2013 that shut down in 2018. Afterwards I returned to home renovations before eventually starting a new company called Bay Modular where we've engineered buildings out of containers to be used as backyard homes. Reading IH, many of these learnings cross the aisle between software and construction and I'm happy to have stumbled upon this community.

    Hi @rosiesherry,
I'm a full stack digital marketer from Colorado. My ambition is to create an online project that drives revenue, so to become a successful indie hacker!

This remote life style is THE path in the information age. We're living through the greatest change in how business and society works, and the people building tech projects will lead the way.

Time and location independence is what we're all after - becoming a successful indie hacker is the path offering the highest probability of achieving that.

Seeking to grow as a professional!

Hi all, my name is Yorgos and about a year ago I quit Airbnb to pursue building a business once more. Eureka moment (or maybe not, will see :p) was when I was reading finance content online during first lockdown.
Content was longform and demanded my full attention. I was continuously failing to read content in single-sittings and my focus was always compromised soon.
I wished I could just have this content into a paperback format and just chill peacefully at the park and read.
So I tried to figure out a way to do just that with whatever tools and services were out there. But couldn't.
Fast forward today, we have (together with @nikalexis) beta launched Screenbreak (https://myscreenbreak.com).
My goal for 2020 is to talk to as many users possible and laser focus on a single application of our product. We support a wide range of workflows (which can be good and bad).
Cheers and props to anyone taking the risks and building cool stuff.
Note from experience: Think hard about your mental help and try always to find balance

Hey there! Nice to meet the community. While I'm a computer's engineer, I'm not a coder... I've tried building businesses offline with an "online presence" sort of thing, specifically specialty coffee shops.

I'm here to share my failures (most of them) and also successes (not many of 'em).

Thanks for building such a community and looking forward to contribute and learn.

    Cheers!

It's great that you want to share :) I'm looking forward to gaining valuable insights from your past experiences.

I'm Eric, the CEO & Co-Founder of www.entermeme.com. My team and I are building Meme Paradise, an app focused exclusively around Memes. I'd love to connect with anyone working on a Meme related project, maybe we can collaborate! :)

I've got 4 time developers plus 3 part timers on staff so far and we're making rapid progress. Let's chat and find a good win-win, it's a big market out there and we're stronger together than we are separated and apart.

We are a SaaS platform for Medical Clinics. We help digitise paper based workflows into a custom clinic management software. All of the code for this process is auto generated by a EMR engine we have built over almost a decade of working with primary healthcare clinics.

Hi there, I have been addicted to social media ever since and decided to build a SaaS project to help reduce my screen time. It can be found in the following link:

    dailynewsound.com

I have another teammate who has given constructive comments so far while I'm doing the development on my own since 1st of August. Let me know your comments and suggestions.

I also hope we share the same advocacy. Since I've watched Social Dilemma movie on Netflix, the more I realized the people's needs and especially once they realise that their data is being exploited by tech giants for their own profit.

Thanks for reading and I hope to contribute to indiehackers out there. Keep posting and keep inspiring.

    Hey, it's Jub here.

I've been the occasional IH forum stalker in the past and am a regular IH podcast listener.

My favourite things to do? Trail running, hiking, travelling, watching sports, and eating pizza.

Finally registered an account here as I finally get ready to jump into the newsletter world. I've also had a couple of travel blogs that have somehow let me keep travelling for a few years now...but it's time to move on from them (I think).

p.s. yo to the fellow Kiwis out there.

I’ve got multiple startups on the go, all at different stages in their life-cycle. One that has investors, one with four figure MRR, one just launched, and an e-commerce brand that is nearing launch 🤠 It’s a lot of fun and work trying to grow them all! Hoping to find one or two to really focus on moving forward.
