Welcome to Indie Hackers! (Week of Apr 11th)

Channing here from Indie Hackers. Welcome! 👋

Here's how to get the most out your time here.

Make the community a better place

Indie Hackers is for connecting with like-minded people who want to build profitable online businesses.

To get the most out of the community, try helping to make it a better place. You can do that by starting and participating in interesting discussions.

If you start by giving, the community is designed to reward you in return.

How to start discussions

Head over to the home page and click the "New Post" button.

If there's something on your mind that you think will get people talking, simply type it out. The shorter the better. It helps if you ask a clear question in the title, or if you express your opinion.

Alternatively, if you read something elsewhere on the internet, you can start a discussion around that, too. Try submitting it as a link post. Indie hackers love discovering interesting new articles.

Good luck!

This is just the tip of the iceberg. If you need help submitting your first link post or starting your first discussion, let me know in the comments below.

Otherwise, I'm excited to see you the forum! Feel free to introduce yourself to everyone below. 🤗

Hello All! -- I am new to indie hacking! I would like to be able to create some type of reoccurring monthly revenue that will eventually replace my 9-5. I know this will take time and consistency. I have been working on building an audience on Twitter.

I am currently working on an app to mimic the experience of an expensive meal -kit service by leveraging online grocery ordering systems like Stop and Shop Peapod.

Hello all, just landed into this amazing community.
Trying to learn how you guys are spreading the word of what you build and learn how you iterate leaner and faster.

My goal of 2021 is to live off the app I created - https://www.basketstatsapp.com/ and continue gaining traction.

Hi everyone- I am new & looking to learn!

I recently made $1000 with a PH launch and have 1300 newsletter subs. I used some of that money to buy @stephsmith's e-book which led me to this community. I'm looking to scale my newsletter content into a full-time revenue, and want to learn more about websites, newsletters, marketing, and online content creation in general!

    1. 1

Aw, thank you @brendanshih! Excited to see you grow. 😊

    Hi Community,

I'm a Software Engineer. At work, I've primarily worked on front end engineering challenges.

I'm building a hackernews like aggregation service for writers, readers, literature enthusiasts. I'm taking inspiration from lobste.rs for features and indie hackers for both UI and features. I started a couple of days back. I went through a course by Lee Robinson and decided to use firebase's services ( authentication, firestore, cloud functions ), Next.js and Vercel ( for hosting ) as my tech stack.

I have no monetary expectations at the moment from the product, I'm just thinking of showing the current expenses to run the website, and leave a 'donate' button. I'm a literature person. I like to read, short fiction, poems in particular. I've a lot of ideas about collaborative tools ( like this poetry editor I made, topped with live multi person audio channel features for workshops or co writing ), to add on top of this project as time progresses. For now I'm focussing on an MVP with least about of features required. Looking forward to finish it by next week ( 25th April ).

The reason I think this project might become successful through a properly thought out marketing effort is because I see a lot of good poetry and story telling instagram accounts get a lot of followers, and a lot of individual magazines publishing their newsletters. People like to read good literature, this tool will become a one stop publicly mass curated solution for people to read what others are reading, so that they wouldn't have to be limited by cocoon of people they follow on Instagram, or newsletters they've subscribed to, which are very hard to miss in the endless stream of mails.

Looking forward to hearing any words that you might have on this :) And also excited about what you all are building.

Hello! I am a design student who is trying to learn some code so that I could create a website where it is easy for newly graduated high school students to research prospective universities in my country.

I live in a developing country so information for this is not readily available. This would be my first ever proper project that I feel passionate about and I would love any tips that could help me on my journey!

Hello everyone , Ia m here for learning new and amazing things.

  19. 1

Hello - I have been watching from the sidelines and particularly listening to the podcasts, finding it all very interesting. I have been in the software industry for the past 10 years holding various roles recently Chief Operations Officer of one startup in London and currently the Chief Product Officer of another startup. I'm convinced that many of us face the same problems all the time so I'm hoping to research with this community. As part of this, I am keen to speak with any indie hacker about challenges they face - maybe I have seen it before and can help. The exchange is research for me, free advice for you. My experience covers product, finance, hiring, AWS and all the multitude other things we run into... drop me a message if you'd like to chat.

Hello Indie Hackers -- I am trying to kill my own frustration by hacking and building. My goal is just to get more things done. Simple, but not easy.

Hope to learn from you all.

Good morning! I'm an SEO consultant and have had a side hustle going for 3 years plus. I've found that whatever you are passionate about, their are others interested in it also and many of them wish they knew as much as you do. Ask them to pay you to share that knowledge with them and create a tribe where everyone helps one another learn more. It's a perfect formula.

    Hey guys,
I was tired of paying awful high rent because we couldn’t buy a house as a result of our poor credit. I went online and I read a lot of good things about ACETEAM so I contacted him via his email; (aceteamcredit AT gmail DOT com). I explained all my poor credit problems to him and he promised to help get my credit straight . He deleted all the negative items and eventually raised my score to 795. We bought a new home and we are living happily ever after as a family. you can also call him on this number +1 929 236 4858

Hey, everybody, just joined as you can tell. I am a 17-year-old computer programmer that is studying lots of JS, algorithms and data structures, etc.. to get a head start and to start my dream projects in blockchain coding and combining the affiliate marketing realm with computer science.

I have an open mindset and am hoping to get insight from all on my journey.

Hello everyone. I am new here and honestly a newbie when it comes to building a business. I have been a software engineer for over 10 years and I am hoping I can make money for myself rather than making money for someone else long term.

I am currently working on a fitness app called Workout Plan Bot which you can find out about here https://workoutplan.app I had my first paying customer yesterday which is really exciting.

Looking forward to getting involved within the community.

Hi everyone! I am new here and I am looking forward to connect with some of you through this wonderful community.

After some years working as a BPM/SOA consultant for different companies and many others as the CEO of an agency (tipicaweb.com), soon I will be launching a company to offer DevOps services for clients who need to enhance their infrastructure in the cloud: taops.io.

I will be sharing my progress over here and also will try to be helpful whenever I can.

    Best,
    Mariano.

Hi everyone! I'm Lauren from Scribly (https://www.indiehackers.com/product/scribly-io). I figured I'd sat on the Indie Hackers side lines for too long — ummm 2 years?— and it was time to jump in.

I'm really excited to be here, to learn from you all, and to answer any questions about growing your business with content marketing, coz that's what Scribly does best!

    Hi,

Long time listener, first time caller checking in. I’m currently building several things. The hope is to one day have enough revenue streams that, combined, will let me quit my day job.

When I’m not working, building things online, I’m an avid runner. Marathons are my jam, and I’m looking to lower my PB as much as possible before Father Time catches up to me 😅

Of course, one of the things I’m working on is a website and weekly newsletter all about running.

If anyone else is into running, be sure to hit me up. Tbh it’s pretty much all I think about, all day, every day 😏

Hey everyone! New here, excited to be here.

Hi all, Ryan here. Creative mind looking to connect with similar people. Passionate about entrepreneurship and hoping to learn a few things while I'm here. My day job is in tech but I sit on the business side and could use some help/guidance on how to build an app from scratch.

Hey everyone, I sincerely hope everyone is safe and healthy in this weird time 🙏 - I built a little web app called Sparel - https://sparel.app/ - it's here to help people solve every day problems using the practices of science. Originally for scientists and engineers, only to find that it works for other problems too! Looking forward to learning more about how to grow in this journey!

Hey everyone, Dan here. I've been running a software development agency for the past 5 years and we are pivoting our business to focus on our own product that we just launched, Tether. I am here to help founders with any development-related questions, focused on setting the correct scope for a project and how to implement a process for getting product out the door.

Hey everyone! New to the site. I run a start-up based in London that (If we nail it) will accelerate the transition to sustainable products for everyday people. We have secured funding from the national innovation fund (Innovate UK) and we intend to launch our Alpha this Summer.

If anyone knows an excellent data scientist that maybe interested in becoming a founding member of a sustainable start-up, please do forward them my way! :)

I think I'll continue to use this site to provide advice to those in similar positions, it'd be great to hear the thoughts of so many people.

    Good luck everyone.

    Hey guys,

I want to be self-employed and work on my own project, which brings me enough money to be independent from an employer.

As for now I am working with a friend of mine on an IOT-platform, which should be used for monitoring of batteries (from an e-bike battery to batteries, which are used by solar-parks).

I am glad to learn from this community as well as sharing my own expirience.

    Hi guys!
I've been a software engineer for 4 years now. Worked on front-end, back-end, and a fair amount of software infrastructure.
Currently looking into starting on a project. Hopefully, I could find someone to partner with.
    Hit me up!

  51. 1

Hello , very happy to join, want to build a SaaS for marketing

  52. 1

Hi indie hackers, happy to join you in this community.
We realized that during these times, every single expense kept going down ... besides food and real estate. We couldn't fix real estate, so we focused on food 🙃

  53. 1

Hi there 👋, excited to be finally joining, been lurking for way too long.

Currently building a SaaS for creating product tours, that help you onboard users and increase adoption. I'm sure there will be many things to learn and share there.

  54. 1

OK, so I think I've always been vaguely aware of IndieHackers...but why didn't it click sooner? An article from the Ghost newsletter brought me here, and glad to have arrived.
