Welcome to Indie Hackers! (Week of Jan 9th)

Channing here from Indie Hackers. Welcome! 👋

Here's how to get the most out your time here.

Make the community a better place

Indie Hackers is for connecting with like-minded people who want to build profitable online businesses.

To get the most out of the community, try helping to make it a better place. You can do that by starting and participating in interesting discussions.

If you start by giving, the community is designed to reward you in return.

How to start discussions

Head over to the home page and click the "New Post" button.

If there's something on your mind that you think will get people talking, simply type it out. The shorter the better. It helps if you ask a clear question in the title, or if you express your opinion.

Alternatively, if you read something elsewhere on the internet, you can start a discussion around that, too. Try submitting it as a link post. Indie hackers love discovering interesting new articles.

Good luck!

This is just the tip of the iceberg. If you need help submitting your first link post or starting your first discussion, let me know in the comments below.

Otherwise, I'm excited to see you the forum! Feel free to introduce yourself to everyone below. 🤗

    Hello,

I'm a serial entrepreneur who was lurking here the past 4 years and decided to actually start engaging with the community. I've been funded by Y Combinator twice, had two companies acquired, one that failed miserably.

My goal is to get 1000 fans (non-paying) for the weird things I am building.

    1. 3

I would be very interested. I have been had no income for the last 18 month and would like to explore any option. Is there any join fee ? Or can you give me advise on starting a business have few ideas but do know how sound and applicable they are in a real market.
      Looking forward to your response.

      1. 4

Wow. I have also had no income for several years in the past, it's a struggle.

To be clear, I am just collecting emails to share my hackathon projects with. I would never ever sell courses or advice. Especially to struggling founders. I think that type of business is a waste of money. I program and build tech products.

If you want some advice or feedback, sure hit me up - [email protected]

I see you're a lot younger, I had no ideas at that age either. I would just make something for the sake of making something and not think about how to charge until it becomes obvious to you. Maybe a tool for surfing the internet with your friends, something fun like that. I started a list of ideas that sounded vaguely interesting and kept it growing.

You just have to want it bad enough. Use whatever method you want to get things done. Break down what you need to do and do it. Start with 15 minutes a day. Hang around other startup people. Write down what you want out of life and how doing this could you get you there. Write down where your life is headed if you don't. Just some ideas. Honestly, there are so many hard things in a startup and this is not one of them.

I am working on an idea to combine the benefits of computer vision, natural language processing, and analytics for a B2B solution. Looking forward to collaborating with other indie hackers, even if you have very different interests.

    Hello all.
I'm a self taught artist who likes to draw/paint some whacky stuff. I'm working on getting a site up offering my pics on tee shirts and other items. I came across this site while searching for keyword research tools. This looks like a good place to meet like-minded people.
If you're interested, you can take a look at my art on instagram - #oddball_views.
Thanks, and looking forward to getting involved.

    Hello all!

It's awesome reading all these comments and hearing what people have been up to with their projects/businesses. I've come across Indie Hackers before but hadn't bothered to create an account until when I recently quit my job and realised how lonely it can get on your own when creating your company. So here I am to make some friends, get advice and hopefully share ideas and give advice of my own once I start learning more things on this long road to entrepreneurship.

I'm currently working full-time on my own on a SaaS and hoping to have a positive impact in the EdTech world with my product.

Nice to meet you and catch you around! :D

Been lurking past few days and love the sense of community and collaboration going on so I just knew I had to sign up.
I'm currently studying CybSec and I've got a few years affiliate marketing but never making anything more than weekly beer money. Would love to find a way to combine my experience and skills and build something.

    Hello,

High school student working on his first website right now. Figured I'd join to see how some other people go about working on their projects. Not as good at using buzzwords as the other people here yet but I'll work on it 😅.

    Greetings IH Community -

Aspiring founder looking to take the first steps into building an idea I've been sitting on for a few years. I've been working in healthcare markets globally for about a decade and interested in building a product/platform that makes it easier for citizens, organizations, policy makers, companies interested in the "S" of ESG to understand what the (social) scientific literature says about, "what works" on any given topic in the social impact space. Lots of people doing aspects of this - none in the way I wish it would have existed for my own work. So the best I can think of is to build what I want to see - and see if others want it too. Feels like COVID has accelerated the need for this as well - so could be an opportune time.

My goal is to get something of an MVP built in the next 5-6 months, but running into a few challenges:

    1. I'm non-technical (come from business intelligence background - R, Excel, some basic python, HTML/CSS/JS, but would have a tough time building something that people could use)
    2. Knowing how to prioritize aspects of the problem I want to solve (i.e. where to start)
    3. Getting over the fear of putting a product out there that is miles from the vision in my head (even if it's in the right direction)

Looking for folks who might be interested in mentoring, thought partnership, helping out in some way.

Definitely reach out if any of the above sounds interesting!

Hello Indie Hackers. I've enjoyed IH for many years, finally pulled the trigger to join as a member. I'm working on Nectr, a platform that lets IT professionals create and maintain a shareable profile of their skills, experience, and availability. Sort of like LinkedIn, but without all the humble bragging and contrived connections. We're just opening up our platform for early release for some minimal viable testing: https://nectr.network

    Hello everyone!

My name is Paul and I'm very happy to join the IH community :)

I am an entrepreneur and developer. After leaving the company I founded over 10 years ago, I am now working on a new project with several software ideas in stock. The first solution is POW ByteSync (https://www.pow-software.com/bytesync/), a lightweight and powerful remote data backup solution. I am currently preparing the Beta version which will be available soon.

I hope to improve my work thanks to the community feedback, and I also hope to help other indies in their projects!

    Hey!

I'm a developer turned security analyst for a FTSE100 company. On the side I have tried setting up several startups but now I have one which has potential.

My goal is to earn 5k per month from my project so I can eventually quit my job and go full time! See you at the end of 2022 ;)

Hello everyone, I'm a full-time software engineer who loves to experiment with all sorts of different online businesses. The skill set that I bring to the table is that I can build a web app from scratch. I love discussing new ideas - if you have an app idea and need help bringing it to life, don't hesitate to reach out!

I'm building Mash (getmash.com) – to enable builders & creators to monetize their awesome experiences based on usage –removing the commitment barrier of subscriptions (unlocking radically different monetization models) and earning way more than ads – all with open, interoperable digital money.

Greetings fellow Indies, my name is Mike,
I've been an Indie Mobile Dev for the past --10-- years (Yes, it's a nice & round number)

I managed to create apps with millions of downloads, never been to a job interview, and never did freelancing... But...

I'm kind of tired of programming, so I just released a new course on Udemy with all my conclusions for mobile devs - "App Creator", so far it's going nice, and I had a positive experience with creating a course (Although you need to put your efforts into it)

I'm also trying to push my Zoom fitness trainers platform Fit2.live, which lets online trainers upgrade their whole UX / UI of their virtual workout in a live Zoom session.

Looking forward to meet likeminded people,
    Cheers!
    Mike

    Hello Hackers!!

I've been working as a web developer for a super cool agency in Mexico for 4 years already! I love the culture and the company even if it is not the best paying company in my area, but they have rewarded me good enough.

But at the same time I love building and learning stuff, my dream is to start my own business even if it is small. So 2 years ago I started a wood working shop along with a cousin. I love it and we have been growing but haven't generated money for ourselves yet. I started to upload Tik Toks like 2 weeks ago with our processes. We want to start doing cutting boards as part of our projects and I want to use my experience as a web developer to create an e-commerce where we can sell our stuff.

It is not the only thing that I want to do haha, after that is stable or at least don't demand a lot of my time I want to start something else. Something more techy haha.

I'm super happy and excited to be here and to build some cool side hustles with you guys!!

gm everyone, building a structured esports program for high-school and college students in India, based on multi-level competitions, and potentially an educational curriculum in the future. the best players are drafted into a central org and given pro contracts.

    Hi, Indie Hackers community,

I'm a software developer from the Caribbean. I quit my full-time job to become self-employed. I'm currently freelancing and developing/commercializing an ERP app for SMEs (It sounds way more fancy than it really is :P)

I've been a passive member of Indie Hackers for almost 2 years now and I feel like most of the posts here are from people that live in big, first-world countries (nothing wrong with that) so I decided to share what its like to be an indie hacker from a different perspective.

That's all, folks. See ya later from under a coconut tree.

(Sorry for my english. It is not my first language)

I'm Tshoki from South Africa. I started a beauty services platform targeting the ethnic, natural hair market in South Africa called HAIRatage using an India based SAAS company. Happy to join this community where I can share some of my lessons & tips and looking forward to learning from you all

    Greetings IH,
I came across indiehackers today and it has been a world of info.
I lost my income through employment in June 2020 and had to move back in with my guardiance.
Since then I have been looking for ways to generate income online or through entrepreneurship but I have came to so many dead ends as I tried to filter through all the noises on the internet in regards to ' Ways to earn income online', 'How to start, structure and run your own Business'. I hope by connecting here, so as to gain meaningful insight on how to go from and idea to real-life applicable opportunities be it through Affliaction/ franchising or brick and mortar model
    Or online.

  59. 1

Wow, to this community. I just found out through links that I must say I feel more comfortable here. I'm an entrepreneur for 3 years and just like anyone else I crave for a successful business career..

Thank you for removing the invitation code option @csallen

I'm a very big fan of yours and the Indiehackers community. I don't have any friends who use Indiehackers and if I wanted to join I had to cold DM or E-mail someone who was using Indiehackers for invitation code.

Because of that I wasn't been able to join this amazing community.

I want to become a entrepreneur someday and start my own side hustle and this community will help me a lot for achieving my dream.

Thanks you @csallen @channingallen for making Indiehackers.

    1. 2

      Thanks for joining!

  65. 1

I'm happy to be here, and thanks to @channingallen @csallen and team for setting up such a supportive community.

I'm based in Lebanon (originally from California) and part of an organization (www.bloom.pm) that runs startup / SME support programs in 8 countries in the Middle East. We supported 168 startups / SMEs in 2021 through our various programs (working directly with enterprises, plus through accelerator partners), and we're soon rolling out our platform, assessments, and library of activities to hopefully support more soon, especially during these challenging times.

I look forward to learning from this community, and to contribute and support others as well if I can be of assistance.

Cheers and best wishes to everyone for a wonderful 2022! 🎉

Hi, I’m Bas from The Netherlands (no not from Amsterdam.. 😂) and since last year I’m a solopreneur. I’ve been an energieadvisor for the last 12 years and help home- and businessowners reduce the energyconsumption of their house or workplace.

I’m looking for ways to differentiate myself in the market and become a publicly known expert. I plan on doing this by building a following of people by sharing lots of usefull content for free on a platform (I think it will be LinkedIN). Once I have a following I can anticipate on peoples needs and hope to provide in the form of selfmade information products. Looking forward interacting with the community and finding all the golden nuggets.

Thanks and I’ll see you guys in the threads.

I'm looking to build something cool + sell it and 'help others to do the same' :-) thanks for opening up access.

There was far more initial code to handle than I originally planned. Emails, payments, even just async tasks. But got all that done.

I am on track to release the first one this week and to be much faster moving forward.

I'm slightly slower than I wanted as well. We can push each other.
I wrote down all the tasks left down and was then stuck at a fairly complex task of making a no signup trial that I kept procrastinating on. I started to break that task down more and more until it was 10 really fairly small things to do and am 70% through that. Hoping to get this out in a day or two before the holiday weekend ends!
