Welder has been acquired by VEED with having 300 subscribers on Youtube. Authentic content matters! 🎉

But how is that relevant? It is, and I believe it might be a good inspiration as well. From multiple angles.

We created Welder to scratch our own itch (cliché, I know, but it f*ng works!) - how to sustainably produce video content that others notice.

Welder started as a high-quality video recording solution for remote calls. We dog fed our own tool and recorded a weekly video cast of us chatting about building products and stuff.

We took the recordings and leveraged the hell out of them.

  • put the long version on YouTube and an audio version on podcast platforms
  • cut topics and released them on YT as dedicated clips
  • created highlights (15-60 seconds) and posted them on LinkedIn

But nobody cared. Like we had 200 subscribers on YT and slowly creeping up. A good week meant we got 2 subscribers haha.

On LI no one cared as well. We mostly got more interactions from written posts.

But I always felt authentic video content as we do has its power even if it doesn't reach a large audience. Because as soon as there is someone really watching it, it sticks. It really shows who we are and how we think.

And it proved!

At one point Sabba - Co-founder of VEED reached out and be like "Really nice videos you're making with VEED. How is Welder doing?".

And we got chatting. Their story is similar to ours, 8 years of bootstrapping and figuring out how to build a product that will grow and make a good living. They figure it out. They cracked the last piece missing for us and offered help.

We sealed the deal, learned so much from them and now we are soon to be shipping Welder under VEEDs brand.

I think this proves that producing authentic video content showing behind the scenes is worth it. It's low effort because you are most likely to be chatting (or thinking) anyway. Just record those chats and release them. You never know who you might inspire or what it may spark in someone else mind. And in the worst-case scenario, you are just going to improve your storytelling skills.

I think every entrepreneur, startup, indie hacker should do this. Video is powerful & builds strong connections.

It also shows how scratching your own itch and dogfeeding the product is powerful.
