We're 3 makers building micro startups, what should we name ourselves as a collective?

What should we name our thinktank?
  1. Mighty Noodles
  2. Sombrero Planet
  3. We Build Remotely
  4. Code Panda
  5. How So.co

Isn't is obvious? The Three Microteers

    1. 3

Lol, I came here to say the same.

    2. 1

lol, can't believe this, Tagging you somewhere up here.

      1. 3

Lol, I would make the three a number and remove 'the' from the front (like the classic suggestion from the facebook movie :D) - 3Microteers!

        1. 1

I like the creativity going on here!

  2. 2

Very disappointed in the small amount of votes for Sombrero Planet!

    1. 1

@jmckinven You have no idea how disappointed I am as well🤣. On the embedded form Sombrero Planet is leading and here it only got about 3 votes😓. Just think how cool the logo could look like!

      1. 2

        I too am very dissapointed.
Sure, go ahead and make your fancy pants "tech" name, or your obvious pun "3microteers" but where's the fun? Where's the creativity? Where's the "omg I can't get this stupid word out of my head"?

If it doesn't get used by them, I'm stealing it for future use :P

edit: Holy crap someone already owns sombreroplanet.com, how could I not have foreseen this

        1. 2

          Agreed.

          p.s. @Nclack... I'm "someone" :)

  3. 2

Side note, do you guys have good articles on how to start a collective? their benefits, etc.. ?

    1. 1

There isn't a lot of documentation on this subject😓. The reason we decided to become a "collective/thinktank/personal-incubator", is that we as a team understood we wanted to build a bunch of small micro-startups instead of one big one. We wanted to have a central website for our team in which we can show off all our projects in a "directory" type of list. We're hoping for three main benefits here:

      1. Easier to share our journey while building in public through one central entity
      2. Hopefully with time we can attain a pretty good email & Twitter following which will help us gain initial traction when launching new products.
      3. We want to add a "Made by team" on each of our products websites:)

p.s. A good example of an amazing collective is: https://www.makelemonade.wtf/

      1. 2

I can see why you are starting a collective now!! Makelemonade's website just got me so excited to start one too haha

        1. 1

At the end of the day, it's simply really fun!

          1. 1

Thanks for the kind words about our Make Lemonade website. We're about a year into running our collective. So far, so good!

            1. 2

              You guys are amazing :D

  4. 2

How about microbrewers.co? That was my team nam for one of the AWS Gameday contests!

    1. 1

I really like that name! We we're playing around with the keyword "brew" but decided not to go for it. In hindsight, we could've definitely added one option and see how it went. What did you build?

      1. 2

We built some microservices and explored how to make them perform at their best.

  5. 2

    Code Trio
    Triple crown
    Triple noodle
    Web triplet

    1. 2

I like your thinking, my friend.

What do you think of something like:

      Tryoapps?
      Tryothank?
      Tryobuild?

I like Tryo: Easy to remember, strong, brandable, and catchy!

    2. 1

Tripe noodle seems great too! But at the end of the day, the name with the most votes wins haha so we'll wait and see:)

  6. 2

Whats the startup is about? Could add more names like redlight, teaTank, beanStalk, waterStadia, sunDwarf, ethiam, etc

    1. 1

Well, we're not building one startup. We're trying to build one micro startup every 1-2 months under a collective so you can view all the products we've ever worked on.

          Okay now that's witty.

  7. 2

How could you not vote for Mighty Noodles haha.

    1. 1

Haha, it's interesting how in the linked form sombreroplanet is leading but over here it barely got any votes😅. I should've added more context to the posting😑

  8. 2

@8am You can create a Poll inside of posts. It might be easier for people to see what your options are rather than clicking twice to see them.

    1. 1

      Didn't notice that! Thanks.

      1. 2

I would also recommend adding a description about what you guys do in the post. I read your options but haven’t clicked on link. Are you a development shop, a restaurant (mighty noodles) or something else. I know you said thinktank but don’t know what that means beyond consulting. I will click on your link to see if there is more info

        1. 2

Since the first iteration of the post only contained a link I couldn't add any text or description to the post unfortunately. But to answer your question... We're a team of 3 makers that will be building web products as a collective. Every 1-2 months we'll launch a new product for people to use.

What is going to be the target audience of this community @8am?

    1. 1

@harshvijay We don't want to limit ourselves to one specific community. However, our first product will be mostly marketed and made towards the tech-savvy community.

  10. 1

I happen to have the url array.so I want rid of?

An array of makers working on an array of projects!

    1. 1

Interesting! .so domains can be super cool!
