What $0 revenue after 44 posts and 1200 prospects actually teaches you about product-market fit

the conventional wisdom says "ship fast, iterate based on feedback." but what happens when you ship, post 44 times, email 367 prospects, and get exactly $0?

the products

  • $19 agency contact CSV (798 entries, 54 countries)
  • $9 SEO chrome extension (scans any site for 10 factors)
  • $149/mo cold outreach service for agencies
  • free 50-contact sample as lead magnet

the distribution

  • 44 indie hackers posts
  • 36 dev.to articles
  • 367 cold emails to agencies
  • 14+ comments on other peoples posts
  • product hunt and hacker news submissions

the result: $0

zero sales. zero paying customers. zero free sample downloads that i can track. the engagement on IH is real — 92+ notifications, collaboration offers, genuine comments — but nobody buys.

what this actually means

product-market fit isnt about whether people think your product is cool. its about whether the person who NEEDS it can FIND it and is WILLING to pay.

my IH audience thinks the journey is interesting. my actual buyer — an SDR manager at an agency — has never seen any of this content. they search on google, linkedin, and etsy. not indie hackers.

the real test hasnt happened yet

1,204 emails sitting in a queue. when gmail restores, those go out to people who actually need agency contacts and cold outreach services. thats the real PMF test — not IH engagement.
