What 800 views on Indie Hackers taught me about public commitments

Yesterday I shared Stated here and it ended up getting near 800 views and reached the top 5 on the Build Board.

Small numbers, but enough to notice something interesting.

People resonated with the idea of making commitments public.

But a few conversations made me realize something deeper:

The real problem isn’t just declaring goals.
It’s showing up consistently and proving execution over time.

That’s exactly what we’re building with Stated.
Not just a place to say:

“I will do this”

But a place where that commitment stays visible and you keep updating progress over time.

Anyone can view it.
No sign-up required.
No friction to share.

It becomes a public record of execution, not just another post that disappears.

Because once something is visible, the mindset shifts:

From
“I should do this”

To
“I said I would do this”

And that changes behavior.

Right now, I’m curious about this:

👉 What would actually make you stick to updating your progress publicly?

Would love to hear how others think about accountability.
