Here's something I noticed while building Auralify that I can't stop thinking about.
When a user asks ChatGPT, Meta AI, or Gemini about a company — a brand reputation, a CEO, a product recall — they get a confident, synthesized answer. No sources listed. No timestamp. No "this might be outdated." Just an answer. And users trust it. Recent studies suggest people now trust AI assistant responses more than the top organic search results.
That answer is shaping perception. And almost no brand has a protocol for it.
What triggered this for me was Meta closing content licensing deals with major European publishers — Grupo Prisa, Le Figaro, News Corp — to feed their AI models with quality editorial content. It's not a news story about AI. It's a signal that AI assistants are becoming a primary distribution layer for narratives about brands. Including yours.
Three things I think are genuinely underestimated right now:
1. The monitoring gap is real and wide.
Most brand monitoring tools track mentions on social platforms, news aggregators, and search rankings. None of them have a native way to audit what AI assistants are saying about a brand in response to live user queries. That's not a product gap I invented — it's just not solved yet.
2. AI doesn't distinguish between a crisis that's over and one that's ongoing.
A brand might have resolved a crisis 18 months ago. Issued corrections. Done the work. But if the model was trained on the peak-coverage moment and hasn't been updated, it still serves that version to users asking today. No recency signal. No correction mechanism. The damage keeps distributing.
3. Comms teams don't have a playbook for this yet.
I've talked to PR and communications directors who are genuinely sharp at crisis management — and most of them don't have a single step in their runbook that addresses AI assistant outputs. Not because they're not paying attention. Because the category didn't exist two years ago.
That's the exact gap I built Auralify to address — a tool that monitors how brands appear across AI-generated responses, not just traditional media and social channels.
Still early days on some of this. The technical challenges are real (you can't just scrape an AI assistant like you scrape Twitter). But the problem is already happening whether teams are monitoring it or not.
