What app do you use to keep notes?
by
Jesse Piascik
I like plain text because it's portable, so I use vscode. What do you use?

I use Bear notes Mac App. It's full of my notes for https://trackmylift.app !
I use bear as well. Its super simple and never had any issues with syncing mobile and desktop.
Love it! So clean and simple
Love Bear....
Yeah it's brilliant! The markdown as well is so useful and quick.
Notion.so
Great look and feel, apps on all devices and the browser. Notes can be as simple as a blank page if you want, but there are many features such as calendars, databases, reminders and more.
I used to carry a paper note book everywhere with me, but now I've stopped using it completely.
In my opinion it's the best note taking app from a user experience perspective as well as having the best set of useful features.
google keep
OneNote. I like to doodle while I take notes, so OneNote on my iPad and Galaxy Note is perfect
Notes app is enough for me so far. Haven't found anything better than that, fortunately.
Same here
Notepad++ when I'm on my machine
Evernote for long term notes
Keep for short term notes
Do you also use a todo app?
Interestingly not, everytime I create an ongoing list of things to do I just end up building a backlog. If I ever do need one I use Google Keep and checkboxes tbh. I also really like Google Time-based reminders on Android. So I can schedule a reminder for me to do something when I know I'll be free later in the day
The product I've built https://imdone.io might be a good fit for you. Since you keep notes in notepad++ I assume you're using plain text or markdown. Imdone is a kanban board for TODOs in your notes, so you don't have to leave your notes to record them in another app.
Just had a look but couldnt work out - does it integrate with notepad++?
Yes. It integrates with TODO comments in text files. The docs explain it well in the first paragraphs. https://imdone.io/docs/#/
Ah wow this is cool. Just a thought - I feel like this information should be right on your front page broken down simply? Didn't seem to get that from your frontpage
Thanks for the feedback! I'll be updating the home page shortly.
https://workflowy.com/ is my favorite. Its simple UI and freedom to structure and search your notes is the best in my opinion.
Have you tried scrumbs.app ? shameless plug other than that I use notepad++
I haven't tried it but it looks interesting. Do you also use a todo app?
I use Evernote for my personal notes, and notion for my team and company info.
Notion is so good at linking and organizing! It's UI is minimal and looks like plain text. You should give it a try.
ColorNote and Google Keep
Google Keep is my personal favourite. I've tried them all, but I discovered I'm a big fan of minimalism in the products I use, so I actually wanted less features I was never going to use and more polish. Keep works everywhere, from my watch, phone, desktop and voice assistant. It's got labels and powerful search too.
I love using Notion.so for my notes. It allows me to build a system around my notes, anyway I want.
I tend to use Trello, Google Keep or Typora (which just saves Markdown files).
I use Microsoft Sticky Notes as windows user. But I also use trello to save client's project links, api links, document URL etc.
Notion.so for me. The best note-taking app I have used so far. I have tried tons and this one wins
I tried it but felt a bit hard to use.
I’ve tried a lot of different apps. Evernote, OneNote, Google Drive, and even an app I made for myself. But in the end I settled on just the Notes app on Apple products.
Top reasons for using it are:
It has the concept of notebooks with no nested notebooks as I find that to get complicated very quickly.
It has searching which makes it easy to find things later.
It has basic text formatting.
And biggest is that it works on all of my devices seamlessly.
There are aspects that I don’t like, but in the end it does one thing simply and does it well for me.
What apps have you tried?
I've tried a few different approaches in the past, but I keep coming back to markdown files.
