What are good retention statistics when you're starting out?

Congrats on launching. Sucks about the D1 retention, but I think it's pretty normal, especially when you're just starting out.

I think the data there is old, and probably worse now for all outside the top few.

• for a social app, you'd expect way lower retention unless the users are listening to the same podcasts right? Might be an opportunity to focus on a single podcast to start with?

• users probably already have a podcast app with all their podcasts saved. How are you handling this in onboarding?

• do you have notifications set up? natural to give a notification when a new episode of a podcast they like is released, so that's another chance to re-engage.

(From experience, I'd say you want at least 20% retention after a couple of months. 5-10% is worrisome.)

You measure user retention to find out if you have a good product market fit or if changes need to be made to get that number up.

What you need is not so much statistics, what you need to do is evaluate your product features and solicit feedback.
A link to your podcast app is a good place to start.
