What are some marketing tactics you used to attract users early?

I've been working on Humonym.com for the past 8 months and have been able to get 40 subscribers on my mailing list. I've only marketed this app by writing medium posts and sharing them on my LinkedIn.

My question is, what other creative (preferably free) tactics have you used to get users?

    Hi Anthony,

    Dope landing page!

I think you could do a few things to gain more users:

    • Targeted shoutout posts on IG from accounts with high engagement
    • Get interviewed (podcast, blogs, etc)
    • Direct, one-to-one outreach to folks who would be ideal users.
    • Consistent content marketing

    Hope this helps!

Helps a lot! All great ideas and I think I'm going to end up trying to get interviewed first, not only is the press great but being able to talk about the idea and solidify my story and how I sell my product would be even better. Thank you!

Kapwing had a post about some of their creative free ideas.

Posters. Chalk. Talking to people in coffee shops.
Posting valuable content on Reddit. Making behind the scenes videos. Talking to friends and family.

    Hi Anthony,

You've got a lovely looking landing page, I will definitely try out your app soon as well.

I'm building Smooper - https://www.smooper.com and it's about to launch in a few days, I have around 30 pre-launch sign-ups. Some of the tactics that got people to my landing page were:

    1. Reaching out to my target audience on LinkedIn and discussing my product with them (be careful - there is a thin line between reaching out to them and spamming don’t cross that line)

    2. Running a few ads with appropriate sales funnels. (This was free for me because LinkedIn gave me a few ad credits on signing up) One of my advertisement got them to a page where restaurants could download a marketing ebook in return for their email address - this got me around 10 interested users. This was the page https://www.smooper.com/free-restaurant-ebook

    3. Listing my website on beta listing websites like beta-page and beta-list

    4. Interacting and engaging in Facebook groups related to my field.

Let me know if it helps and I really hope it kicks off!

Yeah, I'm trying to fine that thin balance between spam and promotion. I try to limit myself to once every week or so, but consistently.

I'm definitely going to try the beta listing sites and facebook groups! I appreciate the advice.
