    Hey,

Great topic! Driving traffic without breaking the bank is crucial for us indie makers. I wanted to add two additional tactics that have worked well for me and might help others too:

Reddit and Niche Communities - Beyond mainstream social media, niche communities like specific subreddits or specialized forums can be goldmines for targeted traffic.

Content Repurposing: Don’t just create content—repurpose it. Turn blog posts into infographics, videos, podcasts, or slide decks. This way, you can reach audiences across different platforms with minimal extra effort. For instance, a detailed blog post can become a series of social media posts or a webinar.

    Cheers!

What a fantastic post! Your tips for boosting website traffic are spot on and incredibly helpful. Quality content, SEO, social media marketing, and email marketing are all essential strategies.

In addition to these, consider incorporating off-page strategies like engaging in comment links, image and video sharing, and social bookmarking to drive traffic and build backlinks. Increasing your social signals through active social media presence, utilizing Web 2.0 platforms, and participating in forums can also make a significant impact. Don't forget about creating profile links, submitting your site to web directories, and using traditional article submission and infographic submission for broader reach. Sharing stats links, listing your business in directories, leveraging PBNs (Private Blog Networks), and issuing press releases can further enhance your off-page SEO. Exploring donation links, adding references to Wikipedia, and sharing coupon links on various platforms can also provide valuable backlinks and traffic.

These are solid cost effective strategies. For SEO, any tips on balancing keyword optimisation with natural writing?

    1. 1

From experience (10+ years in SEO + content strategy) I've seen a shift from optimizing for a single keyword to optimizing for the question behind the keyword.

The "old" way of thinking about it is to load a bunch of keywords, write a blog post for each one, and make sure you use the keyword in the title, meta description, first paragraph, etc.

It's not that you shouldn't use the keyword in those places, but Google is getting more nuanced in how they interpret content and I find that it's better to focus on what the content is about, and what are related questions/follow-up topics to consider.

      For example:

A keyword like "dog food" could mean many things - there's a nuance there. You could write:

      • A list article on the best dog food for large breed dogs
      • An article comparing wet vs dry dog food (or natural vs processed)
      • A landing page promoting all-natural healthy dog food

      etc.

I always recommend selecting your keywords and then taking a step back to consider:

      • What currently ranks? What kind of content does well for this term?
      • Why is your target customer asking this? What else might they ask after reading your content
      • What medium of content best serves the intent of this keyword

I've found this to be the best way to create content that stands out and ranks for terms, even competitive ones.
