What are the best resources to learn about paid communities?

Hi IH, I'm thinking about making a paid community to have short standup voice/video meetings every day so that we can stay focused and also brainstorm problems that come up day to day. It would be paid so that people have some skin in the game so to speak, that they're actually engaging with the community rather than just joining and forgetting about it.

I'm wondering how I'd get the first few customers and where to find these kinds of people. Do you all have any resources on building a paid community as well as community building in general?

I write about all things community over at rosie.land.

I recommend MVC'ing it in the early days — ie, start small and experiment.

I started Indiependent as a paid community, it may interest you.

Are you part of any paid communities?

I'm not currently, what about you? I used to be in an investment one as well as a sales one.

The online communities I'm currently part of are either free or part of a paid course.
Existing groups would seem like the best showcase of how to run a community to me.
Starting with a paid community would probably be difficult when it's a new product/service, since you need to validate the product you're offering AND the community at the same time.

Like IH, communities need a community to thrive, which is people, content and engagement. Starting from blank slate is, rough
