What are the best ways to get relevant Beta testers feedback? Other than forms

We launched our closed Beta about a month now and we have some difficulties gaining deep insight from our users, we sent feedback forms but to me they aren't enough.

I would love to hear from your experiences what things have worked for you ?

Here is our solution for reference https://bit.ly/3XiaY5w

Have you tried creating a discord channel? I've seen some products use this as a way to keep beta testers engaged.

This is exactly what I wanted to suggest, a community server or any other type of community may be the best way to find out people feedback.

But with this comes up the risks of seeing your product in the public before you finished polishing it. (people to share it)

I did create a discord channel for our Beta testers which accounts for over 20 people now. I tried to engage in an AMA session but frankly it did not do well, we barely had one person to ask us something. So I must have done something wrong I guess :)

We schedule onboarding Zoom calls with all of our users and watch them use our product. You have to be aggressive about emailing and texting them (text is better) if they don't show up within 5 minutes of the call starting (and include links to the call in your messages). We always get super valuable insights out of it.

We also try to schedule "quick" 20-minute follow-up Zoom calls around every other week or so. It ends up being more like once/a month at the end of the day. I.e. we should be pestering our users about meeting each week, though I don't think they'd go for it. :) I'd estimate one person could support doing this with around up to 50-60 testers before it becomes too much.

People suck at filling out forms unless they're getting something out of it (like early access to a service), are insanely engaged, or you have a sh'load of users to make up for the low conversion.

That is a lot of work I must say! I reached out to our most active users to schedule a call but none of them replied, I also don't like spamming people so I try to find other ways. Thank you for your detailed feedback 😊

Ah so I should add a few things:

        • We currently have < 50 users, so it's not insane to do this given the "conversion rate" for people who follow through to schedule
        • As part of our sign-up flow in Typeform, we use a Calendly integration to have them schedule the chat on the spot while their attention is captured
        • Getting people to meet with me on the front-end establishes a rapport that helps with follow-up scheduling and outreach
        • I get the feeling of not wanting to spam people, but I'm actually amazed by how much people don't mind my regular weekly outreach to them (for scheduling a call or just checking in). I ask them to please let me know if I'm being to spammy. The most "negative" response I've ever gotten is "nah, I just ignore your emails when I'm busy."

I think it's worth aggressively pursuing your users for feedback. I've found the user research learnings from them. Again: may help that I already establish rapport as part of onboard.

I'd rather have a few really annoyed early users to help develop an amazing product :)

We just send emails to our beta testers regularly (per week), and some of them would be happy to give feedback. Schedule as many calls as possible since you'll get much more insights from calls than forms.

I see, that's interesting. I sent one email only days after a person tests our extension and that was It. I thought it will be spammy if I keep sending feedback emails but I think it's interesting when you announce an update. Thanks !

There are several analytics tools that can help you understand user experience and interaction with your tool.

Also, there is no easy way than just emailing users asking questions and potentially compensating them for their time.

For looking at how users behave on your website, hotjar is a good example.

For instrumenting web analytics on your website, I might suggest https://www.moonpad.io as a privacy-friendly option. I created this to bolster privacy-friendly web analytics space.

Happy to answer any questions you have about Moonpad in specific or analytics tools in general. Good luck.

Do you have a tool on mind that you used before? Thankss

Watch people use it and capture information live. What questions do they ask? Where do they get stuck? When does the lightbulb moment happen? When do you see them get frustrated? What do they try to do that isn't supported? What did they try to do that you had never thought of facilitating?

You can learn a ton just from watching people use your thing.

Super useful, I will make sure to do it! Thanks a lot for sharing your insight 😊

Great product at a quick glance.
Are you looking to go SaaS if so there are around 20 groups on FB that love to get founders on to chat with the members.
You will definately get good feedback and prob every question thrown at you as well but it's a good way to be amongst what people are looking for .
Just search for SaaS groups and join as many as you can

Thank you ! Do you have any facebook groups on mind? I have tried to get Beta testers from facebook groups but couldn't find anything useful!
Also feel free to let me know what you think about Wiseone, every insight is extremely valuable to us 😊
