What are the main podcast platforms?

I mostly listen to podcasts on YouTube, but I get the feeling that there's a wider world of podcasts that I'm not really aware of.

So, where are most people downloading or streaming podcasts from? Which are the biggest platforms by the numbers or by mindshare?

Interesting, any idea what player "atc" is referring too?

No clue honestly. I tried to find it and came up short. I'll have to ask the Backtracks guys

Not heard of that, there is an acast player but i didn't think it was that popular.

Yeah that's what I meant. Got the name wrong.

      This is super interesting!!

Most podcasts in the influencer space are just iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube - and that makes up for 95% of listening..weird seeing other platforms worth noticing

Very interesting, perhaps the 14k in "Other" is people converting the MP3's to Vinyl...

How do you distribute? Are you using a service that uploads everywhere automatically?

      1. 2

Just upload your XML feed to iTunes and everyone reads from that, I believe. Except for Spotify, maybe, who you need to submit to directly. But you just send them the URL to the same feed you submit to iTunes.

According to recent slide deck from a16z, shares are roughly the following:

    Apple iOS Podcast app: 62.9%
Spotify: 9.5% (but I know that's increased, maybe even doubled)
    Overcast (iOS): 2.3%
    Stitcher: 2.0%
    [...other small players...]
    Other: 14.8%

      Thanks!

Interesting to compare these numbers to the stats @csallen shared. Looks like they match up more or less.

Yeah, only Breaker seems to be different.

I feel like I'm alone on this, but I listen to all of my podcasts through Spotify. I listen to a ton of music on Spotify, so it's just easy for me to listen to podcasts on their platform as well.

I use Spotify a ton for music, but haven't really gotten into any podcasts there. Just remembered that I've also listened to podcasts on SoundCloud. Farm to Taber in particular https://soundcloud.com/farm-to-taber-podcast
