What are you doing to personalize your welcome email?

I spent some time today chatting with one of my new subscribers and received some feedback on personalizing my "Thank you for subscribing" emails.

What he suggested was including an image of myself and more hints of personal response, removing the thought that it could be an automated response.

What have you tried and have had success with?

Uh, even that doesn't seem to work now.

I've been reading about this and the best example I found was from a guy who spent a few seconds shooting a video and sending a personalized message like "Hey Joshua, Darko here. Thanks for signing up, blah blah..."

Great idea, maybe something like Loom?

Using the research approach is a good idea. The challenge that I have faced is a lot of the email addresses in my list don’t have a name to go off of. How do you check emails that don’t have a custom domain name (like gmail, yahoo, etc...)?
