What are you grateful for? [Thankful Thursday]

The goal of building a successful business or product can occupy a great deal of our thoughts. The effort to build a product can occupy a great deal of our limited time. That's good in that it keeps us moving forward, but there is a risk inherent in this pattern as well: excessive focus on the future and what remains to be done leaves little time or attention for noticing the good things that we already have.

We're almost done with the week. It's a good time to step back and take a moment to name and appreciate some of the good things that would ordinarily escape our attention.

So tell us, what are you grateful for?

My brother, sister, and dad were all dealing with serious work stress over the last couple of weeks. Angry coworkers, frustrating bugs, strong negative emotions... It makes me extremely grateful to have the work that I do. It's not my own thing, but it is remote, I get to choose my own hours, and I've never had a negative experience at work. Sooooo many people have to go to work everyday expecting high levels of stress. I'm so glad that's not me right now.

Also, I had an awesome winter camping trip this past weekend, and I feel incredibly grateful to have wonderful friends. I got to spend some time with my advisor from grad school, and I was reminded of how much I love the guy. Sooooo many people don't have many friends, or struggle to maintain healthy relationships, and I feel incredibly lucky to have had lasting, positive relationships with people I respect and for whom I have great affection.

I'm grateful for my health. I had an issue with back pain for many years that I've been able to resolve with lots of stretching and yoga. Living without pain is truly a blessing.
