What are you missing in social media?

Hey fellow Indie Hackers! We all use some form of social media, and especially during a pandemic it's been a lifeline to some (including me). However, not everything in the existing platforms is working. For you, what are the biggest pain points in the apps you use?

Personally, I've noticed myself using "public-facing" social media (think Facebook, Twitter, commenting on Reddit) less while spending more time in group chats of various kinds. I've realised that conversations within a small group of people and a private context flow so much better and are generally a much better way to connect with people. Based on this insight, I've been working on a side project on a social media app that's kind of like Reddit for group chats, where you'd be able to easily find and join conversations about the topics you're interested in, and find people to discuss the article or topic you were interested in. One of the problems of group chats is that the topic you want to discuss may be "off-topic" and not interesting to the chat's other members. If this sounds like something you'd want to try out, please leave a comment :)
